Veterans Dying at an Average of 1,800 Daily! National Cemeteries are Overcrowded
They often say life is stranger than fiction. It would appear that as American soldiers were dying at alarming rates in dual conflicts (Iraq & Afghanistan) back home the National cemeteries have become flooded with dead bodies of veterans who are collapsing at a stunning rate of 1,800 a day! Talk about bad karma!
An average of 1,800 veterans die each day, and 10 percent of them are buried in the country’s 125 national cemeteries, which are expected to set a record with 107,000 interments, including dependents, this year. And more national cemeteries are being built.
The peak year for veterans’ deaths will be either 2007 or 2008, Tuerk said. An estimated 686,000 veterans died in 2007. While many World War II veterans are dying, so are an increased number of Korean War and Vietnam veterans.
While this nation struggles to decide how they are going to afford treating and nursing their elderly and as the Baby Boom age hits a silver 6-0, right in time for Social Security to kick in the demands on the government will only be intensified with the mass death of veterans. How is America going to treat the newly minted veteran to prevent this bad spell of mortality that has befallen his fellow soldiers?
