Hitler Wax Figure Be-Headed in Madame Tussaud’s

Well it seems that even in death Hitler causes emotions to run high. This guy blew his cool, and knocked off the head of a Adolf Hitler wax figure on display in a German museum. I understand his protest but does knocking off the head of Hitler really change anything? Or maybe the people at Madame Tussaud’s should have known the feelings and emotions a Hitler wax figure could invoke.

A wax figure of Adolf Hitler had its head ripped off soon after the opening of a new branch of Madame Tussauds in Berlin on Saturday, police said.
A 41-year-old Berliner had been arrested and faced charges of causing criminal damage and bodily harm, after he hit another visitor who tried to stop him, spokesman Uwe Kozelnik said.

“He wanted to protest against Hitler’s figure being on show,” Kozelnik said, adding that the model had been withdrawn from display for repairs.

The decision to portray the Nazi dictator among the 70 famous figures in German history in the museum has proved controversial in the country.

In order not to give the impression that Hitler was in any way a figure to be revered, he appears as a broken man in a mock-up of his bunker just before final defeat at the end of World War II.

Ironically he is behind a table, with the aim of preventing visitors to the museum in central Berlin from damaging the waxwork, or posing for photographs with it.

Meanwhile former post-war chancellor Helmut Kohl said he would be consulting his lawyer because he had never given permission for his own likeness to be on show.

Kohl, 78, told the daily Bild he had been contacted by the management of Madame Tussaud’s but had put certain conditions on the way he was portrayed.

Museum official Susanne Keller dismissed the complaint.

“The figures are sent from London. They do a good job. I assume that Mr Kohl gave his agreement — that’s why he’s here,” Bild quoted her as saying.

  2. I think the guy who knocked off Hitler’s head in protest should be made a wax figure himself with a medal around his neck ! Why would ANY ONE want to place a wax figure of Hitler in a wax museum and pay homage to someone who murdered millions of innocent people? I think it is so disrespectful and if they put the wax figure back I hope people continue to protest ! Power to the people!!!

  3. Well living in Germany myself and being half German, I can honestly say that Germany is very different to the Hitler years which some small minded people refuse to forget.

As for the wax figure, I can see why it may anger some people as Germany has been trying to rebuild itself, and it’s reputation and the figure may stir some unwanted media attention for the wrong reasons. Regardless, it is a piece of our history and I think someone beheading it, although I understand it, I don’t think it was that necessary. But I still think it is far too early, even after all this time to start making wax figures of someone who is very much trying to be forgotten in this country.

  6. Hitler was a very awful person, certainly. But that still gives no reason whatsoever to justify destroying property, especially a piece of property made to remember the greast evil one and remember what he did, not to revere him, but rather to make certain an incident of such magnitude does not happen again
