HAVANA (AP) – Fidel Castro watched the U.S. inauguration on television and said Wednesday that Barack Obama seems “like a man who is absolutely sincere,” Argentina’s president said after meeting with the ailing Cuban icon. “Fidel believes in Obama,” Cristina Fernandez said.
The meeting with Fernandez, just before she ended a four-day visit to Cuba, dispelled persistent rumors that the 82-year-old Castro had suffered a stroke or lapsed into a coma in recent days.
“I was with Fidel about an hour or more,” she told reporters at the airport as she left. “We were chatting, conversing. He looked good.”
Fernandez said Castro wore the track suit that has become his trademark since he fell ill in July 2006 and vanished from public view. A spokesman said the two met alone. Read more…

President Obama placed the Middle East at the forefront of his first hours in office yesterday as he sought to make good on his promise of “ushering in a new era of peace”.
In a flurry of telephone calls from the Oval Office, he reached out to leaders in the region and vowed to engage immediately in pursuit of a permanent Arab-Israeli settlement.
The spokesman for President Abbas revealed that Mr Obama had told the Palestinian leader that their conversation was his first with a foreign statesman since taking office. Mr Obama also spoke to President Mubarak of Egypt, Ehud Olmert, the Israeli Prime Minister, and King Abdullah of Jordan.
Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, said that the talks with Middle East leaders underlined a “commitment to active engagement in pursuit of Arab-Israeli peace from the beginning of his term”. He added: “In the aftermath of the Gaza conflict, he emphasised his determination to work to help consolidate the ceasefire by establishing an effective anti-smuggling regime to prevent Hamas from rearming, and facilitating, in partnership with the Palestinian Authority, a major reconstruction effort.” Read more…

She said she became suspicious after finding receipts and her intuition lead her to the truth. Well, lets hope that for the sake of the beautiful newborn child involved that they reach some common ground on their seperation.

Charlie touches on some of the flaws she found with the B.I.G. movie, which she hasn’t seen. Of her main issues was her omission in B.I.G.’s life, which were pivotal to the development of “Life After Death.” She also voiced a sentiment that I agree with, and that is Ms. Wallace probably isn’t aware of a layer to Christopher Wallace that only friends like D-Roc had access to. Would he have been more qualified to tell the story of B.I.G. while Voletta has right’s to Christopher’s story?
Ha, the inspiration is kickin’ in. The youth are fully charged by this presidency and they are the ones who are gonna real step and doing the phenomenal and previously impossible. “Yes We Can” becomes the mantra whenever you are facing down an obstacle. Here President Obama is putting the cap on a full day of inauguration activities. He goes out on a high note dancing the night away with the First Lady of the United States.
Mr. Gregory displays his gift to mix funny shit with politics. Reminding us why he is considered a master at the art of persuasion with word he reminds those in attendance that it is their duty to tell the true story of what the energy in D.C. was like this past Inauguration Weekend. Truly a historic day, only portions of which made it to CNN, imagine the individual stories/testimonials.

YouTube has truly revolutionized how everything is being done on this planet. The President utilized it to open up government to the citizens of this republic, Diddy uses it to express his supressed emotions and now Max B is using it to pour some water on the flames that have kicked up since his Co-D took a plea last week, signaling that she’s about to turn state on Max B. I don’t want to say Max’s lawyer is copping a plea but he damn sure is trying to make his case in the court of public opinion. They even offer an olive branch to Jim Jones.

(CNN) — In keeping with the theme that swept President Obama into the Oval Office, change has come to the official White House Web site.
Almost at the instant Obama was sworn in, www.whitehouse.gov relaunched with a redesign to signal a new era in government. Gone was the staid site of the Bush White House, replaced by a dynamic new site reflective of his tech-savvy successor.
The new design includes more interactive features, a prominent photo gallery displayed across the top of the site, the ability to get e-mail updates, and a White House blog. The site’s “briefing room” also includes places for a weekly video address, slide shows, proclamations, and executive orders as well as news about nominations and appointments.
“It’s a great first step, and the tip of the iceberg in what’s coming with participatory politics and the relationship between the president and the public,” said Andrew Rasiej, founder of the Personal Democracy Forum and co-founder of techPresident.com. Read more…

I wonder if this riveting speech will go down in the anals of history with the greats like “I Have a Dream” or better yet his speech on race. It was truly the crowning moment of such a well run and executed candidacy, and right now no one can top Obama’s oratory skills. Bar for bar by far he’s the nicest.
OBAMA: My fellow citizens: I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition. Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because we the people have remained faithful to the ideals of our forebears, and true to our founding documents. So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans. That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet. These are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics. Less measurable but no less profound is a sapping of confidence across our land — a nagging fear that America’s decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights. Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. Read more…
Ha. Barack was not falling for the okie doke.
he oath of office of the President of the United States is perhaps the most hallowed tradition in American politics. It marks the end of an intense election process, the peaceful transition of power, and perhaps even the rise of a new generation.
But today, it was a bungle of supreme proportion.
According to the Constitution, the oath is specified as follows: “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Modern tradition has added “so help me God” to the end of the oath.
John Roberts, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, had the honor today of administering the oath to Barack Obama with a Bible used by Abraham Lincoln.
But instead of a smooth delivery, Chief Justice Roberts interrupted Obama early and then switched the order of some of the words, slipping up the new president and causing him to hesitate at one point.
ROBERTS: Are you prepared to take the oath, Senator?
OBAMA: I am.
ROBERTS: I, Barack Hussein Obama…
OBAMA: I, Barack–
ROBERTS: …do solemnly swear…
OBAMA: I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear…
ROBERTS: …that I will execute the office of president to the United States faithfully…
OBAMA: …that I will execute… [pause]
ROBERTS: …faithfully the office of president of the United States…
OBAMA: …the office of president of the United States faithfully…
ROBERTS: …and will, to best of my ability…
OBAMA: …and will to [the] best of my ability…
ROBERTS: …preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
OBAMA: …preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
ROBERTS: So help you God?
OBAMA: So help me God.
ROBERTS: Congratulations, Mr. President.

Nike has been releasing BHM sneakers and this time around it looks like they got it right in terms of colors used & placement. The green & red stitching accent them lovely. The only BS part about the shoes is they will not be releasing to the public. I’ll take a stab & say they’ll end up on the feet of Wayne Brady-types instead of truly deserving Black folks like myself & my cousin June June.

Jamal “Gravy” Woolard has begun shaping his Hollywood career by signing with mega entertainment company It Girl Public Relations.
Starring in the film Notorious has inspired the rapper to pursue a career change.

Woolard and It Girl executives have reacted to the signing.
“I want to be the guy that is a chameleon with performances, known for a diverse body of work and hopefully fortunate to be working in this business for a long time,” Woolard said in a statement.
“Jamal is dedicated and talented and like the man he portrays in Notorious, Jamal is a young legend in the making,” It Girl CEO Juliette Harris said in a statement. “He has the “it” factor to make people warm to him with his charm, and audiences and filmmakers will see that right away.” (Hip Hop Press Release)

(CNN) — Chris Rock is best known for two things: being funny and being crass.
“This is what people come to see. I’m just doing my show,” the comedian said with a laugh.
He’s also known for his political commentary, but there’s one person he’s having a lot of trouble making fun of — president-elect Barack Obama.
This is apparent in his new DVD “Kill the Messenger,” which combines three shows from his international tour: New York; London, England; and Johannesburg, South Africa.
“It was a tour nobody wanted to do… because the general perception is that comedy doesn’t translate,” Rock said.
But thanks to the Internet, the world is a lot smaller than it was even 10 years ago. And people are digging the same jokes, he said, including ones about John McCain and Sarah Palin.
As the DVD readies for release on January 20, CNN talked with Rock about his lack of Obama jokes, Inauguration Day and why racism will never die. The following is an edited version of that interview:
CNN: I watched the special last night, and I noticed that you did a lot of jokes about John McCain — his age, his war hero story — but not so many about Barack Obama. Is it harder to make fun of Obama? Read more…
