[video] Jadakiss feat Faith- LETTER TO B.I.G.

It was cute to splice some footage up and create a video, but this looks like the extended trailer. This song is by far, the BEST of the New Year, but they could’ve atleast gave Jadakiss a cameo so it doesn’t look like someone put this together for YouTube. I’m just saying Puff….

[video] Bush Goes Out Shooting in Final News Conference

January 13, 2009 1 comment

I’ve said from day one this this dude is a natural born comedian, but please don’t pity the fool!  Its either an unrivaled swag factor or pure ignorance that allows Dubya to arrogantly get up there and defiantly thumb his nose at his critics. As his reign of terror winds down (yeah right!) he is starting to let up, open up and give reporters some insite into just how cleverly devious he can be.  As he exits office without reprimand, he seems confident knowing that there will be no future prosecution of his “war crimes.”  This joker had the nerve to say he handled Katrina with dignity, instead of apologizing to those people who were left to die in the N-O.  This cowboy seems to be determined going out shooting, I just hope someone has enough balls to bust back.

YouTube Teams Up with Congress to Show Laymakers at Work

Let’s see who we can catch with their hands in the cookie jar

via NY Times

SAN FRANCISCO — YouTube is aiming to raise its profile in American politics by helping deliver a glimpse of life on Capitol Hill to its large online audience.

On Monday, YouTube, in collaboration with Congress, will unveil two new Web pages, one for the House and one for the Senate, where every lawmaker will be able to create a video channel on the site. The pages will include a map of the United States that will allow users to easily navigate to the channel of their elected officials.

Already several members of Congress have channels on YouTube. But by creating a central hub for all senators and representatives, YouTube is hoping to encourage more members to create their own channels, not only as a place to promote their agendas but also as a forum for interacting with citizens.

“People out there don’t really know what senators and congressmen do on a daily basis,” said Steve Grove, head of news and politics at YouTube. “This will give them a sense of what they are doing.”

During the election season, political campaigns made heavy use of YouTube and other online tools, including social networks like MySpace and Facebook, as well as blogs and “microblogging” services like Twitter, to communicate with voters. But until last fall, so-called franking rules largely limited the use of online tools by members of Congress to official House and Senate Web sites. Read more…

SONY and Toshiba Shares Fall Sharply

January 13, 2009 Leave a comment

via NY Times

HONG KONG — Stocks in Japan’s leading electronics companies fell sharply on Tuesday amid reports that industry giants Sony and Toshiba will see an operating loss in the current financial year, as plummeting demand and a strong yen take their toll on sales.sony

A person with knowledge of the matter, speaking anonymously because the information is not public yet, told Reuters that Sony may post an operating loss of about $1.1 billion in the business year that ends in March, in comments that echoed reports by several Japanese media on Tuesday.

If confirmed, it would be the first full-year loss for the maker of the iconic Walkman portable player and PlayStation 3 games console in 14 years.

Sony declined to comment on the report, but its shares fell 7.7 percent by early afternoon as investors worried that Sony’s third-quarter earnings announcement, due Jan. 29, could include nasty surprises as the economic environment continues to worsen.

Among other things, the company has said it would detail far-reaching cost and job cuts it announced on Dec. 9, as it looked to cut costs by ¥100 billion a year. Read more…

After being turned down by three judges, C- Murder’s re-trial has been assigned to a new judge.

As reported earlier, three judges refused to preside over the rapper’s trial because of their prior involvement in the case.

C Murder, born Corey Miller, is accused of killing sixteen year old Steve Thomas in 2002 during a brawl at the defunct Platinum Club in Louisiana.

He has been under house arrest awaiting re-trail since his initial murder conviction was overturned in 2006.

The judge who was initially presiding over C-Murder’s case, Martha Sassone, lost the re-election bid for her seat to Judge Ellen Kovach in November 2008. Read more…

Kanye West Tells Vibe He Wants To Pose Nude

Rapper Kanye West has revealed that he would like to pose nude one day to “break every rule…of Hip Hop.”

The rapper reasoned that that he wanted to challenge the norms of American and African American mores.

“I definitely feel, like, in the next however many years, if I work out for two months, that I’ll pose naked. I [want to] break every rule and mentality of hip-hop, of black culture, of American culture,” he said in the February issue of Vibe magazine.

This wouldn’t be the first time a well-known rapper has stripped his clothing off.

Brooklyn icon Big Daddy Kane posed partially nude in a June 1991 issue of Playgirl magazine, the female lifestyle magazine and counterpart to Playboy. He also pushed the boundaries – and generated controversy among purists – when he did a risqué three-way photo shoot with Madonna and super model Naomi Campbell. The images appeared in Madonna’s “Sex” book in 1992. Read more…

Shocking: Driver Accuses Knick of Gay Sexual Harrassment

January 13, 2009 Leave a comment

The Knicks really need some help in the sensitivity department. It is unbelievable that this organization has such problems with their staff and players. I just can’t wait to the Knicks are once again known for their play on the field and not sexual discrimination suits.

picture-10 Knicks center Eddy Curry was slapped with a shocking sex-harassment suit Monday by his former driver, who claims the 6-foot-11 hoopster tried to solicit gay sex from him.

The stunning court papers claim Curry, a married father of three, repeatedly approached chauffeur David Kuchinsky “in the nude,” allegedly telling him, “Look at me, Dave, look” and “Come and touch it, Dave.”

Curry also made Kuchinsky perform “humiliating tasks outside the scope of his employment, such as cleaning up and removing dirty towels [Curry had ejaculated into] so that his wife would not see them,” the Manhattan federal court suit says.

Kuchinsky, who is straight and Jewish, also alleges racial discrimination, saying that Curry hurled slurs at him including “f—ing Jew,” “cracker,” “white slave,” “white devil” and “grandmaster of the KKK.”

Pro-Mafia Facebook pages cause alarm in Italy

January 13, 2009 Leave a comment

via Reuters

ROME (Reuters) – Leading Italian anti-mafia activists expressed alarm on Monday that Facebook pages dedicated to praise of some of Cosa Nostra’s most notorious and bloody bosses have attracted hundreds of young admirers.”Fan clubs” of such jailed mafia bosses as Bernardo Provenzano, arrested in 2006 after nearly four decades on the run, and Toto Riina, nabbed in 1993 after 24 years at large, have appeared on Italian pages of the social networking site.

“What worries us is that the great majority of people who have adhered to these pages are young,” Tonio Dell’Olio, a leader of the anti-mafia group Libera (Free), told Reuters Television.

Libera is involved in many anti-mafia activities, including acquiring farms and buildings confiscated from the mafia and using them for social good, such as schools and drug rehabilitation centers.

One of the most vocal opponents of the Facebook pages is Rita Borsellino, sister of magistrate Paolo Borsellino who was killed by a mafia car bomb in 1993. The bombing was ordered by Riina and Provenzano. Read more…

Israel Accused of Using Illegal Chemical Weapons in Gaza

January 12, 2009 Leave a comment

Why is this a surprise to anyone? The U.S. has been using “Willie Pete” in Iraq and Afghanistan, so Israel is just following suite.

via Reuters

(Reuters) – Human Rights Watch accused Israel on Saturday of using white-phosphorus munitions during its offensive in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli army said it would not provide details about the munitions it was using in the Gaza Strip, but it added: “We emphasize that the IDF (Israeli army) only employs weapons permitted by international law.”

The army confirmed in 2006 that it had used phosphorus shells during its war against Hezbollah guerillas in Lebanon.

Following are key facts about white phosphorus:

MILITARY APPLICATIONS

White phosphorus munitions are primarily used to make smoke screens or mark targets as a signaling mechanism, but also as an incendiary weapon. Human Rights Watch said Israel appeared to be using the munitions to hide its military operations — “a permissible use in principle under international humanitarian law.” White phosphorus is not considered a chemical weapon under international conventions. It is a colorless or yellowish translucent wax-like substance that smells a bit like garlic. The substance ignites easily in air at temperatures of about 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit), and its fire can be difficult to extinguish. Read more…

New World Order Shapes Up Off Somalia

January 12, 2009 Leave a comment

via Reuters

LONDON (Reuters) – The Somali pirates who released a Saudi supertanker got a $3 million reward, according to their associates. Good money in one of the world’s poorest and most war-blighted corners.

But the waters off Somalia are getting ever more crowded with foreign ships trying to stop the pirates. As well as potentially making life more difficult for the hijackers, it has become a real illustration of the much talked about global power shift from West to East in terms of military might as well as economic strength.

This raises a question as to whether this will lead to close cooperation, rivalry or something altogether more unpredictable.

This week the United States said it planned to launch a specific anti-piracy force, an offshoot of a coalition naval force already in the region since the start of the U.S. ‘War on Terror’ in Afghanistan in 2001.

It wasn’t clear just what this would mean in practical terms since U.S. ships were already part of the forces trying to stop the modern day buccaneers, equipped with speedboats and rocket-propelled grenades. It was also unclear which countries would be joining the U.S.-led force rather than operating under their own mandates. Read more…

MTV Preps to Air T.I.’s “Road To Redemption”

via RealTalkNY

As he begins counting down the days to his impending March 2009 sentencing for weapons charges, Grammy-winning superstar T.I. finds himself at a remarkable crossroads. At the very apex of his career, he’s facing up to thirty years of jail time for an arrest stemming from his earlier life. However, as part of a deal worked out between his lawyers and the federal government, if he completes an amazing 1000 hours of community service during the year ending this March, that sentence may be reduced. At 27, finding himself at the very high- and low-point of his adult life, he’s seeking redemption in helping others avoid the mistakes he made. In the new docu-series “T.I.’s Road To Redemption: 45 Days To Go” cameras follow T.I.’s efforts to save himself by saving others. “T.I.’s Road To Redemption: 45 Days To Go” is a moving title. Each week, the title will change to reflect the amount of time left to his sentencing.

The final episode will air shortly after T.I.’s fate is revealed. In order to communicate his message, he has to give each teenager a tough love lesson in life and show them the consequences of what could happen if they continue down the wrong path. “T.I.’s Road To Redemption: 45 Days To Go” will premiere on Tuesday, February 10 at 9:00PM (ET/PT). Subsequent episodes will air in the show’s regular timeslot at 9:30pm (ET/PT).

[Op-Ed] Eight Years of Madoffs

January 12, 2009 Leave a comment

via NY Times

THREE days after the world learned that $50 billion may have disappeared in Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme, The Times led its front page of Dec. 14 with the revelation of another $50 billion rip-off. This time the vanished loot belonged to American taxpayers. That was our collective contribution to the $117 billion spent (as of mid-2008) on Iraq reconstruction — a sinkhole of corruption, cronyism, incompetence and outright theft that epitomized Bush management at home and abroad.iraq-war

The source for this news was a near-final draft of an as-yet-unpublished 513-page federal history of this nation-building fiasco. The document was assembled by the Office of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction — led by a Bush appointee, no less. It pinpoints, among other transgressions, a governmental Ponzi scheme concocted to bamboozle Americans into believing they were accruing steady dividends on their investment in a “new” Iraq.

The report quotes no less an authority than Colin Powell on how the scam worked. Back in 2003, Powell said, the Defense Department just “kept inventing numbers of Iraqi security forces — the number would jump 20,000 a week! ‘We now have 80,000, we now have 100,000, we now have 120,000.’ ” Those of us who questioned these astonishing numbers were dismissed as fools, much like those who begged in vain to get the Securities and Exchange Commission to challenge Madoff’s math.

What’s most remarkable about the Times article, however, is how little stir it caused. When, in 1971, The Times got its hands on the Pentagon Papers, the internal federal history of the Vietnam disaster, the revelations caused a national uproar. But after eight years of battering by Bush, the nation has been rendered half-catatonic. The Iraq Pentagon Papers sank with barely a trace.

After all, next to big-ticket administration horrors like Abu Ghraib, Guantánamo and the politicized hiring and firing at Alberto Gonzales’s Justice Department, the wreckage of Iraq reconstruction is what Ralph Kramden of “The Honeymooners” would dismiss as “a mere bag of shells.” The $50 billion also pales next to other sums that remain unaccounted for in the Bush era, from the $345 billion in lost tax revenue due to unpoliced offshore corporate tax havens to the far-from-transparent disposition of some $350 billion in Wall Street bailout money. In the old Pat Moynihan phrase, the Bush years have “defined deviancy down” in terms of how low a standard of ethical behavior we now tolerate as the norm from public officials. Read more…

A Gaza War Full of Traps and Trickery

January 12, 2009 Leave a comment

via NY Times

JERUSALEM — The grinding urban battle unfolding in the densely populated Gaza Strip is a war of new tactics, quick adaptation and lethal tricks. APTOPIX Mideast Israel Palestinians

Hamas, with training from Iran and Hezbollah, has used the last two years to turn Gaza into a deadly maze of tunnels, booby traps and sophisticated roadside bombs. Weapons are hidden in mosques, schoolyards and civilian houses, and the leadership’s war room is a bunker beneath Gaza’s largest hospital, Israeli intelligence officials say.

Unwilling to take Israel’s bait and come into the open, Hamas militants are fighting in civilian clothes; even the police have been ordered to take off their uniforms. The militants emerge from tunnels to shoot automatic weapons or antitank missiles, then disappear back inside, hoping to lure the Israeli soldiers with their fire.

In one apartment building in Zeitoun, in northern Gaza, Hamas set an inventive, deadly trap. According to an Israeli journalist embedded with Israeli troops, the militants placed a mannequin in a hallway off the building’s main entrance. They hoped to draw fire from Israeli soldiers who might, through the blur of night vision goggles and split-second decisions, mistake the figure for a fighter. The mannequin was rigged to explode and bring down the building.

In an interview, the reporter, Ron Ben-Yishai, a senior military correspondent for the newspaper Yediot Aharonot, said soldiers also found a pile of weapons with a grenade launcher on top. When they moved the launcher, “they saw a detonator light up, but somehow it didn’t go off.” Read more…

Texas Death Row Inmate pulls out eye, eats it

January 10, 2009 1 comment

via My Antonio

HOUSTON — A Texas death row inmate with a history of mental problems pulled out his only good eye and told authorities he ate it. eye

Andre Thomas, 25, was arrested for the fatal stabbings of his estranged wife, their young son and her 13-month-old daughter in March 2004. Their hearts also had been ripped out. He was convicted and condemned for the infant’s death.

While in the Grayson County Jail in Sherman, Thomas plucked out his right eye before his trial later in 2004. A judge subsequently ruled he was competent to stand trial.

A death-row officer at the Polunsky Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice found Thomas in his cell with blood on his face and took him to the infirmary.

“”Thomas said he pulled out his eye and subsequently ingested it,” agency spokesman Jason Clark said Friday.

Thomas was treated at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler after the Dec. 9 incident. Then he was transferred and remains at the Jester Unit, a prison psychiatric facility near Richmond southwest of Houston.

“He will finally be able to receive the mental health care that we had wanted and begged for from day 1,” Bobbie Peterson-Cate, Thomas’ trial attorney, told the Sherman Herald Democrat. “He is insane and mentally ill. It is exactly the same reason he pulled out the last one.”

At his trial, defense lawyers also argued he suffered from alcohol and drug abuse. Read more…

L.A. Gang Leader Sentenced to Death

January 10, 2009 9 comments

via LA Times

Even in a city with more than 150 gang slayings a year, Timothy Joseph McGhee’s murders stood out.mcghee-captured

For years, authorities say, McGhee waged a campaign of terror in the northeastern part of Los Angeles. A shot-caller for a long-entrenched gang, he hunted rivals but sometimes killed indiscriminately, boasting in rap lyrics about the pleasure he felt in taking life.

He taunted law enforcement and led a sophisticated ambush that ensnared two Los Angeles Police Department officers in a barrage of gunfire. While locked up, he incited jail riots and assaulted guards, responding to one attack in which an officer survived by saying, “Next time I’ll have to stab him.”

On Friday, McGhee, once one of the nation’s most sought-after fugitives, sat shackled in orange jailhouse scrubs as Superior Court Judge Robert J. Perry sentenced him to death for the murder of three people.

Slim, with a shaved head adorned with a tattoo of an eagle eating a snake, McGhee showed no emotion as the judge said the 35-year-old treated killing “as some kind of perverse sport, as if he was hunting human game.”

Perry said he accepted defense arguments that McGhee’s father abandoned him as a young boy and that McGhee was nevertheless a good father to his children and the children of his girlfriend. But the judge said he believed execution was the appropriate punishment.

“He is a committed killer and an obvious danger to society,” Perry said.

Police and prosecutors described McGhee as a thrill killer who was among the most feared members of the Toonerville gang, which was formed in the 1950s and claims as its turf a largely middle class area north of Los Feliz Boulevard between San Fernando Road and the Los Angeles River. Read more…

Obama Intelligence Team Enters New Phase of Counter-Terrorism

More than seven years after the Sept. 11 attacks, the United States is only beginning to chart long-term strategies for dealing with detainees: “How we apprehend them. Where they go. What process they go through,” Harman said. “The expectation of the Obama administration is that they are going to bring this into the sunlight.”

At the same time, current and former U.S. intelligence officials said there were other components of the Bush administration’s counter-terrorism apparatus that the Obama team might find difficult to dismantle, if not enthusiastically embrace.

Among them are overseas prison facilities that are operated by the CIA — and currently not accessible to Red Cross monitors — as well as the use of unmanned Predator drones to fire missiles at suspected Al Qaeda and Taliban compounds in Pakistan, strikes that often cause civilian casualties.

Obama appeared to leave little wiggle room in his remarks Friday. The president-elect pledged that his administration would “adhere to our values as vigilantly as we protect our safety, with no exceptions.” Read more…

Judge Warns Man in Court of Australian Jail’s “Sexual Gorillas”

SYDNEY (Reuters) – An Australian court has issued a blunt warning about the sexual predators a young driver faces in jail if he does not stop speeding, as authorities struggle to stop teenagers street racing.

“You’ll find big, ugly, hairy strong men (in jail) who’ve got faces only a mother could love that will pay a lot of attention to you — and your anatomy,” said Magistrate Brian Maloney.

The 19-year-old male appeared in Sydney’s Downing Center Court on Monday charged with driving without a license, failing to stop at a police alcohol check point and driving dangerously.

It was his third time before the courts for driving offences, prompting the magistrate’s warning he would be jailed next time. Read more…

Warner Bros. to add Social Networks to All Music Sites

January 10, 2009 2 comments

They peepin, watchin

via Breitbart

DENVER (Billboard) – After years of watching music fans flood online social networks to interact with their favorite recording artists, the music industry is starting to get serious about adding community features to its own websites.

social-networks

Hoping to become a big player in that effort is networking giant Cisco, which during the Consumer Electronics Show, January 8-11 in Las Vegas, introduced its Eos platform — a set of hosted online tools designed to enable media and entertainment companies to build social networking functions into websites.

For record labels, that means adding fan community services to artist sites. Warner Music Group (WMG) is the first label partner signed on to use the Eos platform, and it already plans to add such functionality to the sites for Atlantic artists Laura Izibor and Sean Paul. Other artist sites will migrate to the platform over the course of the year.

“As the Web shifts from the enterprise to the consumer in terms of where the traffic is coming from, the social media revolution — which is all about fans interacting with artists — is going to provide an enormous opportunity,” said WMG executive vice president of digital strategy and business development Michael Nash. “This is a recognition that having a social media strategy is not just about partnering with social networks, but it’s also about what we do with our direct-to-consumer efforts.” Read more…
