A NINE-year-old girl pregnant after years of alleged sexual abuse by her stepfather is likely to abort twins she is carrying in a case that has shocked Brazil, reports in Sao Paulo said. teen_pregnancy_

The Brazilian girl, who was not identified because she is a minor, was found to be four months pregnant after being taken to hospital suffering stomach pains, the news websites G1, pe360graus and the Diario de Pernambuco reported.

She was being cared for by a medical and psychological team in the Maternal-Child Institude in the northern city of Recife, close to her hometown of Alagoinha in Pernambuco state, they said.

“We don’t know if she will develop the pregnancy up to the end because of the structure of her body. It is a big risk for her,” the doctor who confirmed her pregnancy before she was taken to the institute, Jose Severiano Cavalcanti, told the Diario de Pernambuco.

“She doesn’t have a pelvis able to support a gestation of twins,” he said.

Abortion is illegal in Brazil except in cases of rape or if the woman’s health is in danger.

The institute in Recife was unable to immediately confirm information about the case.

Iran wants Hollywood to apologize for insults

The art advisor to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad urged a visiting Hollywood delegation to apologise for “insults and slanders” about Iranians in films, the ISNA news agency reported on Saturday.

“(Iranian) cinema officials will only have the right to have official sessions with… Hollywood movie makers when they apologise to the Iranians for their 30 years of insults and slanders,” Javad Shamaghdari said.

“The Iranian people and our revolution has been repeatedly unjustly attacked by Hollywood,” he said, citing ’300′ and recent Oscar nominated movie ‘The Wrestler’ as among offending films.

In 2007, the war epic ’300′, a smash hit in the United States for its gory portrayal of the Greco-Persian wars, drew the wrath of Iranians for showing their ancestors as bloodthirsty.

Similarly ‘The Wrestler’, was booed in Iran and heavily criticised for the scene of breaking and tearing of the Iranian flag by the picture’s star, 2009 Oscar nominee Mickey RourkeRead more…

UK’s Brown Woos Obama on Global “New Deal”

via Times Online

GORDON BROWN hopes to forge a partnership with President Barack Obama in Washington this week, to call for a “global new deal” to lift the world out of recession. gordon-brown

As he prepares for his first White House visit since the president’s inauguration, the prime minister has hinted that he is ready to make further tax cuts to boost the UK economy.

Brown will meet Obama on Tuesday and address a joint session of Congress on Wednesday. Aides say he has both to demonstrate to a sceptical British public that he commands the respect of the president, and to persuade the American political establishment that global action is needed to rescue the US economy.

Brown is under pressure to persuade American political leaders to sign up to bold aims for the G20 summit of industrial and leadin

Many US politicians believe economic policy should put America first, and have shown little interest in concerted global action. Brown will argue for a renewal of the transatlantic relationship, with the two powers working together to solve global economic problems.

The prime minister will borrow from the rhetoric of Franklin Roosevelt, who introduced the government-financed New Deal to tackle the US Depression of the 1930s. He will argue that his 21st century “global new deal” will also require public spending on a huge world-wide scale. Read more…

NFL Players Missing After Fishing Trip

via USDA2Day

At least two NFL players are missing after their fishing boat disappeared about 50 miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.
Victor “Marquis” Cooper, of the Oakland Raiders, and Corey Smith, of the Detroit Lions, are among the four boaters that the Coast Guard is searching for today.nfl_missing

A 21-foot center-console boat with four people left the Seminole Boat Ramp in Clearwater Pass, Fla., at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the Coast Guard in St. Petersburg. The boaters were supposed to return after dark but never did.

At 1:30 this morning, the Coast Guard received a call from a friend saying that the boaters were overdue. The Coast Guard said the third boater was Nick Skyler and did not identify the fourth person.

Cooper, whose truck and trailer is till parked at the boat ramp where the men left from, is a linebacker with the Oakland Raiders. Smith is a defensive end for the Detroit Lions. Both began their careers with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Officials say the waters in the Gulf are extremely choppy and they believe the boat is in distress.

A Coast Guard 47-foot motor-life boat crew from Station Sand Key, Fla., HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and C-130 Hercules fixed-wing aircrews from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, and the Coast Guard Cutter Crocodile are searching a 750-square mile area west of Clearwater Pass for the missing boaters.

“The Birthers” continue to Hound Obama for Birth Records

(March 1) – Ever since Barack Obama became a prominent political fixture in the country, he has encountered a fair number of rumors and smears concerning him and his family.

There was the one rumor about him being a secret Muslim (he is a practicing Christian). And there was the one allegation his wife, Michelle, was caught on videotape using the word “whitey” (no such clip has ever surfaced).

Most of the charges were, for the most part, put to rest by vigorous responses from the Obama team during the campaign.
But one conspiracy theory lives on — despite overwhelming evidence debunking it.
Politico.com reports that the Birthers — a persistent group of conservatives who believe Obama is ineligible to be president because of alleged questions surrounding his birth status — continue to operate and thrive on the fringe.
“Some individuals and groups who are opposed to Obama’s presidency want an ‘acceptable’ reason to cite to convince other individuals and groups who might be on the fence to join in their way of thinking,” said Patricia Turner, who studies rumors at the University of California, Davis.
For the record, officials in Hawaii declared last October that there was no doubt Obama was born in the state. Officials verified that the health department holds the commander in chief’s original birth certificate.
But others are still undeterred.
A lawsuit filed in California by a group called the United States Justice Foundation seeks records from Occidental College, where Obama attended school for a period, in order to verify his nationality — and thus his presidential eligibility, WorldNetDaily reports.

Get the full story about the Birthers at Politico.com to find out about the group’s possible impact on the White House and weigh in, below, on the controversy

This was a very insightful look  into the enigma which is KANYE WEST.

Kanye offers a riveting performance of “Heartless” off of his 808′s. He incorporates a blend of Hip Hop meets pop art meets soft rock and so on and so forth. He even offers up 50 some ammo by spitting a freestyle parodying himself being soft and gay.

[UPDATE]: US Won’t Attend UN Racism Conference

us_un142

via MSNBC

UNITED NATIONS – The United States won’t
participate in a U.N. conference on racism in April unless the final
document is changed to drop all references to Israel and criticism of
religion, a senior U.S. official said Friday.

The
conference is a follow-up to the contentious 2001 conference in the
South African city of Durban, which was dominated by clashes over the
Middle East and the legacy of slavery. The U.S. and Israel walked out
midway through that eight-day meeting over a draft resolution that
singled out Israel for criticism and likened Zionism — the movement to
establish and maintain a Jewish state — to racism.

Israel
and Canada have already announced that they will boycott the upcoming
World Conference Against Racism in Geneva from April 20-25, known as
Durban II, but President Barack Obama’s administration decided to
assess the negotiations before making a decision on U.S. participation.

Last week, the State Department sent two U.S.
representatives to Geneva, where the final document to be issued by
conference participants at the end of the conference is being
negotiated, the U.S. officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity
because an official announcement has not yet been made.

The
representatives — Betty King, a former U.S. ambassador to the U.N.
Economic and Social Council, and Felice Gaer, the chair of the U.S.
Commission on International Religious Freedom — held 30 meetings with
representatives of different countries and attended the negotiations,
the U.S. official said.

Drawing the line
While the U.S. presence was warmly welcomed, the U.S. official said that in the negotiations, a bad document got worse.

The
United States has decided that it will not participate in further
negotiations on the outcome document and will not participate in the
conference itself on the basis of the latest text, the U.S. official
said.

The Obama
administration would reconsider its position if the document improves
in a number of areas including dropping references to any specific
country, references to defamation of religion which the U.S. views as a
free speech issue, and language on reparations for slavery. It also
wants a shorter text and does not want the final document for Durban II
to reaffirm the final document from the 2001 Durban conference, the
U.S. official said.

Further details on the issues in question were
not available as the latest version of the final document being
negotiated in Geneva has not been released.

European
nations have expressed hope that the conference can go ahead with a
final text that is acceptable. But they have also drawn lines they say
may not be crossed.

French
diplomat Daniel Vosgien said in December that his country was firmly
opposed to the idea of banning criticism of religion. Dutch Foreign
Minister Maxime Verhagen said at the time that the Netherlands would
walk out unless anti-Israel statements were scrapped.

[video] SK THROWBACK- WHAT WE DO- Freeway feat Beanie Sigel & Jay-Z

March 1, 2009 2 comments

This is the first installment of SK THROWBACK‘s which will be a blog dedicated to revisiting those tunes that made an imprint on our consciousness when they dropped.  There are so many songs that are part of our musical archive, we thought it would make sense to dig in the virtual crates and pull some of these memories off of YouTube and put you onto GAME.

I choose to set it off with WHAT WE DO by Freeway because I had the honor of being the studio with YOUNG CHRIS last night and I bore witness to a creative process that I can only describe as pure genius.  When JAY-Z said he doesn’t write his rhymes on paper, but instead in his head, he transformed a whole generation of lyricists who ditched the pen and relied on the mind to scribe their rhyme.  YOUNG CHRIS is one of those talents and Freeway also comes across as one of those unique talents that you can honestly say carved his own lane with his own style and his rhyme pattern was always on automatic fire (was he coming off the top of the dome?)
