Engineer commits suicide after losing 4G iPhone prototype

They really don’t play at Apple and the repercussions seemed to have driven this guy over the edge.

A 25-year-old man reportedly committed suicide after an iPhone prototype he was responsible for went missing, leading to alleged “unbearable interrogation techniques” in the ensuing investigation, according to a Chinese publication.

As first reported by ND Daily, the man, Sun Danyong, reportedly had his property seized and was held in solitary confinement after one of 16 prototype iPhones he was responsible for went missing. The man jumped from a 12-story building last week.

As translated by Shanghaiist, the man told his friends before his death that the security guards with Foxconn, the iPhone manufacturing company, had laid hands on him. Chinese media reported that the missing device was a new “4G” iPhone.

Charges Against Henry Louis Gates Jr. Dropped

BOSTON — Prosecutors dropped a disorderly conduct charge Tuesday against prominent black scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr., who was arrested at his home near Harvard University after a report of a break-in.

The city of Cambridge issued a statement saying the arrest “was regrettable and unfortunate” and police and Gates agreed that dropping the charge was a just resolution.

“This incident should not be viewed as one that demeans the character and reputation of professor Gates or the character of the Cambridge Police Department,” the statement said.

Supporters say Gates – the director of Harvard’s W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research – was the victim of racial profiling.

Officers responded to the home Gates rents from Harvard after a woman reported seeing two black men trying to force open the front door. Gates’ lawyer, fellow Harvard scholar Charles Ogletree, said the professor had returned from a trip overseas, found his front-door jammed and had to force it open.

Solar eclipse pits superstition against science

MUMBAI (AFP) – Indian astrologers are predicting violence and turmoil across the world as a result of this week’s total solar eclipse, which the superstitious and religious view as a sign of potential doom.

But astronomers, scientists and secularists are trying to play down claims of evil portent in connection with Wednesday’s natural spectacle, when the moon will come between the Earth and the sun, completely obscuring the sun.

In Hindu mythology, the two demons Rahu and Ketu are said to “swallow” the sun during eclipses, snuffing out its life-giving light and causing food to become inedible and water undrinkable.

Pregnant women are advised to stay indoors to prevent their babies developing birth defects, while prayers, fasting and ritual bathing, particularly in holy rivers, are encouraged.

Shivani Sachdev Gour, a gynaecologist at the Fortis Hospital in New Delhi, said a number of expectant mothers scheduled for caesarian deliveries on July 22 had asked to change the date.

“This is a belief deeply rooted in Indian society. Couples are willing to do anything to ensure that the baby is not born on that day,” Gour said.

Astrologers have predicted a rise in communal and regional violence in the days following the eclipse, particularly in India, China and other Southeast Asian nations where it can be seen on Wednesday morning.

It combines oral sex and the desire for a refreshing Sprite to create a big finish that has to be seen to be believed. It even beats the climax of this similarly-themed ad.

Microsoft has responded with backhanded diplomacy, dropping knowledge on the US President in a statement released to the AP that says, “We agree with President Obama that it’s a time for families to work together so that kids use media in ways that are safe, healthy and balanced … Xbox 360 is the only console gaming system that has a timer feature allowing parents to set time limits for their kids, as well as parent controls to enable parents to set limits on what their kids are playing and watching.

The NY Post reports that the 20-year-old Hugo Boss model who first stepped into the spotlight for shacking up at age 17 with 37-year-old second grade teacher Gina Salamino, was arrested Thursday morning for his involvement in a New York City crime spree. Joshua Walter and his three cronies have confessed to the robbery of 15 gas stations and delis and the theft of $12,000-$15,000.

The spree began June 14 and ended on Sunday at a Dunkin’ Donuts on Horace Harding Expressway, where Walter allegedly pistol-whipped one of the victims, sources said.

The crime spree include gas stations, a 7-11, bodegas, and fruit and vegetable stands around Queens and Brooklyn. The four were charged with robbery and criminal possession of a firearm.

Here is the second episode to The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty. This episode is called The Jacksons Abroad. I actually like this show and I think it dispels a lot of the negative talk that the media has associated with the Jackson brothers for decades. They are a real family and I believe this is the first glimpse that we have seen them humanized in a very long time (Jermaine is a different story).

Now I am not into digging up or exploiting anybody else’s family but this just seemed to weird not to post. Last night I was watching the Jackson movie on Vh1. I decided to google Jermaine Jackson when the movie showed him getting ready to marry Berry Gordy’s daughter. I was reading Wikipedia and discovered that him and his brother Randy have 2 children each by the same woman.

So in essence their children are brothers and sisters and also cousins. I was amazed at this and still tried to understand and wonder how this would work in any normal family. I just found it plain weird and thought that I would not be in the minority. This makes Michael’s dealings with Debbie Rowe and the sperm donor seem like a drop in the bucket. Anyway here is a pic of the happy family:
