underway, the “Prosperity Movement” has been the target of mounting criticism from inside and outside the Black Church. Specifically, the affluent ministries of The Reverend Creflo Dollar, Bishop Eddie Long
and others have drawn the attention – and ire – of some clergy and laypeople alike.
Researcher Henry E. Felder’s study of Blacks’ donation habits demonstrated per capita spending of $508 per year in 2009 dollars. Another source, Tyler Media Services, estimated that Black Church revenue
approached $17 billion in 2006.
One church, the Reverend Dollar’s World Changers, reported $69 million in 2006 income, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Mainstream politicians and Black community leaders are demanding a better accounting of the “return on investment” offered by churches to the communities that fund them. Meanwhile, legions of faithful
churchgoers defend their pastors and accuse their detractors of applying a double standard that ignores the largesse of wealthy, white televangelists, while underplaying the economic development and social service functions provided by the Black Church.
“The church has gotten caught up in materialism and greed, a lifestyle. Many ministers today want to live like celebrities and they want to be treated like celebrities. In other words, instead of the church standing with the community, the church has become self-serving. It has strayed away from its mission” according to Dr.Love Henry Whelchel, professor of church history at The Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta.

The song — “A Place with No Name” – sounds similar to the song “A Horse with No Name” released by the group America back in 1971. We’re told several years ago America’s manager gave his group’s permission for Jackson to record the song, “A Place with No Name” — despite the similarity.
America’s current manager, Jim Morey, who was also Michael’s manager in the late 80′s and early 90′s, tells us, “The band was honored that Michael chose to do their song and they hope it becomes available for all Michael’s fans to hear.”
It’s unclear when Michael recorded the song.

Three men were fatally shot. One man was fatally stabbed. Police shot one man and at least seven other people were wounded by gunfire — including an 8-year-old boy sitting in his bedroom — during an especially violent six hours late Wednesday and early Thursday mainly on the South and West Sides. 
Miguel Loreto, 17, of the 5900 block of south Kolin Avenue, was shot in the head at 2936 W. Palmer St. and was pronounced dead at 10:27 p.m. at Norwegian-American Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
At 10:08 p.m. Wednesday, a gunman on a bicycle approached Loreto and shot him in the head, according to police, who said the shooting is possibly gang-related.
Terrance Hollins, 17, of the 7300 block of south Dorchester Avenue, was shot at 6422 S. Eggleston Ave. and was dead on the scene, the medical examiner’s office said.
At 11:58 p.m. Wednesday, Hollins was shot during a “gun fight” that also left another man hospitalized, police said.
About 2:30 a.m. Thursday, a man and woman were shot while inside a vehicle and crashed into a building near South LaSalle and West 59th streets, according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.
The 29-year-old man was pronounced dead 4:38 a.m. at Stroger Hospital of Cook County, according to the medical examiner’s office, which was not releasing his name pending family notification. Read more…
We all grew up on Thor, this should be another Marvel blockbuster
Natalie Portman has been cast as the female lead in “Thor,” Marvel Studios’ adaptation of its comic book featuring the Norse god of thunder. Kenneth Branagh is directing.
Portman will play Jane Foster, who in early comic book lore was a nurse who became Thor’s first love. The studio said the character will be updated for the feature adaptation, with Foster being a doctor-scientist type.
Chris Hemsworth is already cast as Thor. Tom Hiddleston is Loki, the god of mischief who serves as the movie’s villain.
“Thor” is Marvel’s stab at an epic fantasy adventure, spanning from present-day Earth to the realm of Asgard. The story centers on Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. As punishment, Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans but once here, he learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
“(Jane) is the human lead, so to speak, who helps ground the film in reality,” said Marvel’s Kevin Feige, who is producing. “We spend a lot of time amongst the other realms of the Nine Worlds of the Thor mythology and our human anchor to that.” Read more…
MUMBAI — DreamWorks Studios has at last secured the financing it needs to get its production slate up and running.
Partners in the new venture, Steven Spielberg, Stacey Snider and Indian billionaire Anil Ambani announced Wednesday night that the studio will have $825 million of initial funding.
DreamWorks will have a four-person board consisting of Spielberg, Snider, Reliance’s Amitabh Jhunjhunwala and Alan Levine, entertainment adviser to JPMorgan and former CEO of Sony Pictures.
While the new company has been quietly functional since November last year it can only now move some of its properties off the development drawing board and into production. “This venture with Reliance opens a new door to our future,” said Spielberg.
“With this financing, DreamWorks will eventually make 5-6 films per year,” the partners said in a statement issued after a meeting in New York. “DreamWorks anticipates starting its first film for the new studio later this year. They have been actively acquiring properties and developing projects for release in 2010.”
As has been previously anticipated, the initial phase of funding will include an equity investment from Ambani’s Reliance ADA Group, debt financing from a syndication of banks, as well as funding from Disney. Read more…

The figures will come in a 1/6 scale, featuring all the intricate details one would come to expect from a Hot Toys release. This topic was beaten to death before,with no one been outed so what is the sense now to retread the story? I think gayness in HIP HOP will always be underground thus maintaining its strength in powerful circles.If someone is outed then the big mystery is over thus killing the need for everyone to wonder and speculate. Former New Jersey Net star Richard Jefferson bailed on his stunning fiancée — pulling the plug on his posh Manhattan wedding at the 11th hour without even alerting some of the guests, The Post has learned.
The cold-footed forward’s decision to ditch onetime Net dancer Kesha Ni’Cole Nichols was so last-minute that some of his oblivious friends had already shown up last Saturday at the swank Mandarin Oriental in Columbus Circle for the $2 million wedding that never happened.
Jefferson — who was traded in June to the San Antonio Spurs — dumped Nichols just before the weekend, according to sources.
She immediately called her family and friends to say the ceremony was off.
But Jefferson waited much longer, his friends told The Post.
“He called about two hours before the wedding. It was nuts,” said one Jefferson pal.

A pistol-wielding robber blamed the nation’s troubled economy for a holdup this morning at a northwest Houston bank, authorities said.
While demanding cash about 10:30 a.m. from a teller at a Compass bank branch, 12514 Tomball Parkway, the armed robber said, “I’m only doing this to eat. They’re not letting me work,“ FBI officials said.
As his partner held a shotgun on customers and employees at the bank, the robber scooped the cash into a black nylon bag, officials said.
They were last seen getting into a tan, gray or silver four-door Chevrolet sedan with custom rims, FBI agents said.
There were no reported injuries during the robbery, officials said.
