The New York Times writes up what it calls a “theme song for Obama’s Ghana visit.”

The theme song of the last stop may have been provided by a Reggae singer named Blakk Rasta, whose song, “Barack Obama,” was played constantly during an arrival breakfast in Accra, Ghana, and had a way of staying in the head long after the travelers left.

BOSTON (AP) – The artist who created the “Hope” poster of President Barack Obama has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to three vandalism charges in Boston. Prosecutors dropped 11 other charges.

Shepard Fairey was sentenced in Boston Municipal Court on Friday to two years probation. He pleaded guilty to one charge of defacing property and two charges of wanton destruction of property under $250. He must pay $2,000 to a graffiti removal organization and cannot possess tagging materials except for legal art installations.

Fairey’s spokesman released a statement saying the 39-year-old artist is pleased to have the case behind him and “return his attention to making art.”

Boston prosecutors earlier dropped 14 charges that claimed Fairey placed stickers on public property.

This is a historic moment and I am still trying to grasp how much Obama has traveled around the world and talked to the masses in his short time in office. Africa seems to have wholeheartedly embraced him and we will see over time if there are any true changes along with these historic trips and speeches.

Biggest Dogfighting Raid in History Reveals Even Bigger Problem

This Wednesday, approximately 450 dogs were seized during raids in seven states. Animal welfare groups call this the largest simultaneous raid of dogfighting operations in U.S. history.

Each rescued dog will be evaluated in hopes of placing as many as possible in adoptive homes.

Animal welfare advocates worked with federal authorities for 18 months on this seizure. So far, 26 people have been accused of cruelties ranging from denying animals medical treatment to shooting poorly-performing dogs in the head and disposing of their bodies into a river or burning them in a barrel.

Company pays 1.68 million for lunch with Warren Buffet

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A Canadian investment firm paid $1.68 million in last month’s charity auction to win lunch with billionaire investor Warren Buffett.

The Glide Foundation, which receives all the auction proceeds, said Wednesday that Salida Capital, which is based in Toronto, won the auction.

Salida Capital CEO Courtenay Wolfe says the auction offered a unique opportunity to sit down with one of the world’s greatest investors.

Buffett annually auctions off a lunch to benefit Glide, which provides social services to San Francisco’s homeless and poor.

Salida Capital will be able to send a total of eight people for the lunch with Berkshire’s chairman and chief executive. The owners of the Smith & Wollensky restaurant in New York contributed $10,000 to Glide and will again host the lunch.

Wolfe said he plans to bring along a handful of his firm’s biggest supporters. Salida Capital is marking its tenth anniversary this year, and Wolfe said it has recovered well from last year’s difficult market, so the time seemed right to bid.

“Lunch with Warren Buffett is something we have always had on our ‘dream list,’” Wolfe said.

Glide’s founder, the Rev. Reverend Cecil Williams, said he is thankful for the support from both Salida Capital and Buffett.

Very interesting and this might be Mediatakeout’s jockeying to become as big as TMZ though they do not have the same major corporation backing. We have not seen any evidence yet that they are making money off of the gobs of traffic they get everyday.

What will be their next move in the coverage of black celebrities? TV show? They will first have to stop will the unreliable and outright garbage stories with no basis in order to be taken serious and to compete with TMZ.

Did Vibe magazine, the print ambassador of hip-hop culture, voice and style, pass up a chance to survive last year?

Vibe, the baby of acclaimed producer Quincy Jones (the composer who produced the late Michael Jackson’s mega-hit albums, “Thriller” and “Off the Wall,”), said earlier this week that it was shutting down immediately.

A partnership with an online gossip website serving African-American readers, might have given it room to keep producing, according to the site’s founder and editor.

Fred Mwangaguhunga, who runs Mediatakeout.com, told us that in the year before Vibe’s collapse, it offered the magazine a revenue-share deal, but Vibe refused.

“We came to Vibe and offered it a deal where they’d sell our ads and in return, they’d get a stake in the ads they sold,” Mwangagunhunga said.

The partnership could have given Vibe “$1 million a month, but they didn’t want it,” he said.
$1 million a month? Hard to say. (For what it’s worth, Mwangaguhunga says Mediatakeout.com gets 3 to 5 million unique viewers and 150 million page impressions per month.)

We tried to reach Vibe, or whatever is left of it, but a computerized voicemail message at the magazine’s office said: “Message quota exceeded. Goodbye.”

Did Vibe take a wise pass in the hopes of striking a better online deal? Or do its actions suggest that it is another example of entrenched print types avoiding imminent change?

It could be a pointless question. Jones told EbonyJet.com that he plans to buy back the magazine, which had a circulation of over 800,000, according to The New York Times.

Incidentally, Ebony apparently isn’t interested in working with Mediatakeout either.

“We made the same proposal to Ebony [magazine] which is facing pressure now,” he said. “I’m not sure why they’re saying no.”

NPR, All Things Considered, July 7, 2009 · Hundreds of majority Han Chinese, many of them armed, roamed the streets Tuesday in China’s far western city of Urumqi in the aftermath of ethnic violence between Han and minority Uighurs that killed at least 156 people.

The local government narrowly avoided a second wave of widespread violence, arresting more than 1,400 people and imposing a dusk-to-dawn curfew.

At an intersection near city hall in Urumqi, capital of China’s Xinjiang region, crowds of mostly young, ethnic Han men milled about Tuesday. They carried clubs, meat cleavers, shovels and iron bars.

When a car suddenly plowed into a produce truck, the armed men surged into the intersection, as if fearing a Uighur attack. No one was hurt, but the scene seemed poised to explode into primal ethnic violence.

The satirical puppet show, which was influenced by the British 1980s show Spitting Image and France’s Les Guignols, is a chance for a group of scriptwriters and puppeteers to delve into the murky world of Kenyan politics.

The man behind it is East Africa’s best known cartoonist, Gado, who has been taking a pop at Kenya’s elite for years and encourages people to question events in Kenya.

“I think it’s everybody’s duty,” he said.

“You can’t put that responsibility on one individual, as every Kenyan should contribute to expose what is happening and to expose corruption.”

Time Magazine writer equates King of Pop furneral procession to OJ Simpson Chase

James Poniewozik, TIME Magazine writer criticizes Michael Jackson Memorial calling Jackson's casket gaudy.

While checking out the CNN website I could not help but to notice their partner, Time Magazine’s, “A strange, gaudy and moving farewell” headline.  James Poniewozik, who certaintly will never experience the universal love that Michael Jackson received from his fans, disgustingly found it appropriate to make sly remarks about the King of Pop Memorial Service.

“(Gordy also called Jackson “The greatest entertainer that ever lived.” Was there hyperbole? Sure. It was a memorial.),” Poniewozik writes questioning the unmatched talent and popularity of Michael Jackson.  Michael Jackson received the Memorial of a King because he was a King, not only in the realms of music but as a humanitarian.

To James Poniewozik, it is easier to see the world from a critical view but I challenge you to take a look in your mirror and make a change within yourself and the world around you.  Disrespect and sly remarks do not go unnoticed and while you focus on being negative the world Michael Jackson celebrates around you, Bill O’Rielly and Pete King.  Who will celebrate you when you are gone?

Even in his farewell, Michael Jackson has united people acoss the world and provided us with an opportunity to focus on the power of love rather than on our differences. Anyone who tuned into the live broadcast of the memorial for the King of Pop would at the very least have been moved when Paris Jackson tearfully told the world that “my daddy was the best father.”

While receiving worldwide coverage, Michael Jackson’s memorial was heartfelt and intimate as Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Brooke Shields, Queen Latifah, Mariah Carey and Trey Lorenz, Usher, Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Motown founder Barry Gordy, Rev. Al Sharpton, Martin Luther King III and Bernice King shared their stories.

From Magic Johnson’s story of Michael Jackson enjoying Kentucky Fried Chicken to Al Sharpton telling Paris, Blanket and Prince that there wasn’t anything strange about their father brought truth center stage.

With such a beautiful out pour of love for Michael as he is laid to rest, we cannot help but wish that he was here see and feel our embrace. What if we would have stood up for him when mainstream media sought to destroy him. Only after his death do we hear so many public professions of love and stern proclamations of Michael’s innocence against the child molestation allegations.

Even the admission of Jordan Chandler that his father pushed him to lie on Michael Jackson is not enough to shield MJ from the critics venom as we were forced to listen to damning speculations and negativity that usurped his legend in the mainstream media throughout the week. And while critics took shots, the fans persistently celebrated his life with tributes from NYC to China.

In this, I hope we learn that it is our obligation to stand up for truth and seize the moment to share our love for each other while time allows. Furthermore, we understand that we, the people, the public, have the power to shape to provoke and accomplish real change.

The ending of an era is coming to its pinnacle and the beginning of a new age is embarking on the world as well.  The way the world knows, understands, appreciates and honors the legacy of this KING amongst men is about to undergo a drastic transformation.  A true STAR is preparing to take its place amongst the constellation of late great LEGENDS of this era. Music icons like Ray Charles, James Brown, Sam Cook, Bobby Womack, Gerald Levert, Tupac Shakur, Biggie Smalls and more will be the first in line in the Halls of the Pearly Gates waiting to welcome the KING of POP amongst the ranks of the GREATS who art in Heaven. Like Jigga the God MC famously said, numbers don’t lie and Micheal’s magic lie in his numbers.

Him being the 7th son who made his transition on 6/25, which amounts to 7 once you add the 2 and the 5. Do the knowledge “God” and you k the rest. The GOD is being laid to rest on the day of his completion, 7/7…7 days after being memorialized in Harlem by way of the Apollo.

Interestingly enough Michael’s astrological sign, the Virgo, which also is representative of “Seven” is represented by the woman who is referred to as the “Moon.” And suprisingly 7/7 is also a Full Moon in Capricorn, and the day plays host to a “Lunar Eclipse” the very same day.  World renown astrologist Jan Spiller interpets it to mean:

He vehemently protested the abuses being done to the Planet by her inhabitants.  His video for PLANET SONG is one of the most compelling clips I’ve ever seen thus far. Let us all take a look at the man in the mirror before we cast judgment on how someone else is shuffling their cards. The way to honor the legacy of this musical genius is by continuing his work, which is never done. Children are still suffering, forests are still dying and animals are on the brink of extension under the weight of the world, so let us all play our individual parts to bring about “Change” in the name of the LEGEND.
