How young is too young to get buff?

The number of 6- to 11-year-olds joining gyms have doubled since 2005, according to one recent study. Some are there not just to get fitter and stronger, but to get bigger — washboard abs, buns of steel and bulging biceps are all the rage among teen and even pre-teen boys.

Can Black Women have a bigger waist and still be healthy?

January 26, 2011 3 comments

Do not read this headline and think it is okay to be heavy. This study has some serious problems in it. In essence it is singling black women out and saying it okay for you to be a bit fatter before you are at risk for diabetes and heart disease which I totally disagree with. Shouts to Amy Norton for this article that should be read by everybody:

“We do not want to make too many practical implications at this point,” Katzmarzyk told Reuters Health in an email.

He also stressed that the findings do not mean that African-American women with a BMI below 33 or a waistline under 38 inches have “no risk” of obesity-related health problems.

“What the study does show is that there is a strong relationship between obesity and risk factors in white and African-American men and women,” Katzmarzyk said. “This relationship is robust in all groups, so no one is immune from the effects of obesity.”

As it stands, men are considered to have abdominal obesity when their waistline tops 40 inches; for women, the threshold is 35 inches. Abdominal obesity, in turn, raises a person’s risk of diabetes and heart disease.

Another way to look at the weight-health question is through body mass index (BMI) — a measure of weight in relation to height. People with a BMI of 30 or higher are considered obese, and they generally have a higher risk of diabetes and heart disease than thinner people.

Black People Get Their Own ‘Jersey Shore’ Show : ‘One Big Happy Family’ Debuts December 29th.

December 25, 2009 6 comments

I found out about the ‘One Big Happy Family’ reality show on TLC while watching another show called ‘BBQ Pitmasters’ where white people cook massive amounts of pork for hours and enter it into a tasting contest. The teaser for OBHF displays a fat, sloppy, bucket of fried chicken eating stereotypical Black family who are extremely over weight and trying to battle the bulge all the while showing how much they love each other. I have tried to to find the teaser online but to no avail I found none. That is very strange for a show debuting this week it would seem they would have some sort of promotion online. The TLC website has no trailers or teasers just a schedule of it debuting on Dec. 29th.

Obesity Bug You Can Catch

via Daily Express

OBESITY can be “caught” as easily as a common cold from other people’s coughs, sneezes and dirty hands, scientists will claim today.

Researchers believe that an airborne “adenovirus” germ could be causing the fat plague that is blighting Britain and other countries.

As many as one in three obese people may have become overweight after falling victim to the highly infectious cold-like virus, known as AD-36.

It is known to cause coughs, sore throats, diarrhoea and conjunctivitis but has now also been found to make fat cells multiply, leading to weight gain.

The shocking discovery will add to evidence that Britain’s obesity epidemic is not simply down to an unhealthy diet or lack of exercise.

Research suggests a third of UK adults will be grossly overweight within three years, with Britain even predicted to overtake the US as the most obese nation in the world.

The problem already causes 9,000 premature deaths in the UK a year and costs the NHS £1billion. Read more…

500 Pound Man Too BIG For Courtroom, Arraigned In Parking Lot

fat ass

Talk about tipping the scales of justice! A man, apparently too fat to fit into a Riverhead, N.Y, courtroom was arraigned in the parking lot aboard a pickup truck (F-350 maybe?). The 500 lb. defendant who remains unnamed in the report, was arraigned on charges of selling fake Gibson Les Paul guitars for $1,500 and released without bail.

Editor’s Note: Now, if the dude was too big to fit into the courtroom how would they go about posting bail on him to haul him off to jail? He probably couldn’t fit in the cell or he might tip the patty wagon over (lol)…I swear we couldn’t make this stuff up if we tried.
