TMZ is reporting:

Traci Billingsley, Chief Public Information Officer for the Bureau of Prisons, tells TMZ, “Wesley Snipes has self surrendered to the minimum security Federal Prison Camp at the Federal Correctional Institution McKean, in Bradford, Pennsylvania.”

Another spokesperson for the B.O.P., Ed Ross, confirms, “Wesley Snipes has arrived and is at the prison facility in PA.”

Original Post:

Wesley Snipes is one of my favorite actors hands down. I do not want him to go to jail and wish he had a different outcome with his trial, but I am confused as to why he waited so long to proclaim his innocence in the media. Seems he should have been doing this along time ago to try and tilt some type of sympathy and public awareness in his favor. Things don’t look good Wesley.

Wesley Snipes A Flight Risk?

wesley_snipes_01

via The Smoking Gun

MARCH 25–Arguing that convicted tax cheat Wesley Snipes recently violated terms of his bail by attending the lavish “party of the decade” in Dubai, federal prosecutors are opposing the actor’s request to travel to Africa and Europe to film movies.

In a March 24 U.S. District Court filing, government lawyers argue that Snipes, 46, made an “unauthorized” trip last November to the United Arab Emirates for the star-studded opening of the $1.5 billion Atlantis, The Palm Hotel. As a result of the Dubai trip, a federal judge in Florida ordered Snipes to surrender his passport. Prosecutors apparently only learned of Snipes’s travel to Dubai when paparazzi photos from the hotel opening were published (one such image, seen at right, was included as an exhibit to yesterday’s government filing, an excerpt of which you’ll find below).

Snipes was sentenced last year to three years in prison following his conviction on three misdemeanor tax charges. He is free on bail while appealing his conviction. Last week he sought permission to travel to Italy for 14 weeks to film “Game of Death.” He also wants to spend two weeks in Namibia for reshoots on “Gallowwalker.” In opposing Snipes’s travel requests, federal prosecutors also noted that Namibia “has become known as a haven for international fugitives,” and cited a recent New York Times story titled “Tips for the Sophisticated Fugitive.”

Spike Lee to Direct Wesley Snipes in James Brown Biopic

January 29, 2009 1 comment

via MTV

James Brown is the lone Godfather of Soul, and even if he looks a lot like Wesley Snipes in Spike Lee’s upcoming biopic, Lee wants to make sure there’s one recognizable voice coming through the microphone when the legendary figure appears on-screen.wesley-snipes-200x300

“We’re doing it together – it’s going to happen,” Lee told MTV News in an exclusive interview at the Sundance Film Festival this week. The Oscar nominated director of “Do the Right Thing” and “Inside Man” lavished praise on Snipes. “He’s my man,” Lee said; but when it comes to the vocals on Brown’s classic tracks like “I Got You (I Feel Good)” and “Get Up Offa That Thing,” expect to hear the authentic voice of James Brown being dubbed in. “I want to hear James Brown’s voice,” the director said. “That’s just my personal taste.”

He’s not the first filmmaker to take the dubbing route in a musical biopic. Taylor Hackford dubbed Ray Charles’ original voice over Jamie Foxx in “Ray.” “I know Joaquin Phoenix in ‘Walk the Line,’ he did some of the singing,” Lee said, breaking down the decision. “I’m a purist,” he explained. Lee and Paramount grabbed Snipes to play Brown in 2007. The project came together shortly after Brown died in 2006 of congested heart failure. Snipes’ big-screen energy summoning Brown’s near mythological stage presence will obviously carry a hefty punch. You have to feel the demands being place on Snipes, though, just to physically imitate James Brown to the point of syncing with his vocals. That task alone should make “Demolition Man” feel like a jog through through Park City, Utah, by contrast. Do you think Spike Lee is doing the right thing by dubbing in James Brown’s original voice? Do you think Wesley Snipes is a good fit for the part? Speak up and let everyone know in the comments section below!

OCALA, Florida — Actor Wesley Snipes must reimburse the government in prosecution costs for his tax conviction.

According to court documents, U.S. District Court Judge William Terrell Hodges ruled last week the action film star must reimburse the government about $217,000. Snipes, star of the Blade trilogy and White Men Can’t Jump among other movies, had objected to the cost.

A message left with Snipes’ attorney was not immediately returned Tuesday.

A jury convicted Snipes in February of three counts of willfully failing to file his income taxes. He has appealed the convictions and his three-year prison sentence.

Prosecutors still seek to toss Snipes behind bars..

Just when I thought Wesley had some breathing room. And they really need to lay off Wesley, he gave them 5 million dollars even after being convicted. Get to work my brother on Blade 4,5, and 6.

OCALA – Actor Wesley Snipes’ freedom as he appeals his 36-month sentence on three misdemeanor charges for not filing taxes could be in peril.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office filed a motion Thursday with the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit saying that it will appeal a U.S. district judge’s May 22 decision allowing Snipes to remain free on bond while he appeals his three-year sentence. The sentence was the maximum allowed for his crimes.

“We want him in custody,” said Steve Cole, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. “He’s been convicted by a jury. He has been sentenced to three years and he should be in custody.”

Straight-To-DVD Is the New Hustle In Town

blockbuster.jpg

Note to all the aspiring rappers turned actors, there is a lane for you! Hollywood’s burgeoning Straight-To- DVD market is being recognized and no longer criticized as an underclass but rather a necessary evil. With the success of Black Hollywood’s highest grossing films (Tyler Perry), a secondary class has sprung up in its wake, a class that mimmicks the exploits of Blaxploitation flicks from the 70′s. This system is dominated by former A-listers like Wesley Snipes who routinely turns out Straight-To-DVD’s.

The studios openly acknowledge that they know once a theatrical release targeted to black audiences hit the DVD market it makes a healthy amount of cash, so to cut their costs they opt to go Straight-To-DVD. Blockbuster has become the preferred “theater near you” when it comes to Black cinema. Like the overcrowded “Chic-Lit” market, an astonishing number of Straight-To-DVD’s movies are being produced, indicating that there is a market for this cookie cutter product.

The themes are generally the same, as are some of the actors but it remains to be seen whether their will be a break in the monotony. In the meantime, next time you’re down at the local Blockbuster or online checking out Netflix, remember to snatch up one of those S-DVD’s, you may be creating the next job for your favorite rapper turned B-actor. Wesley Gets No Love From Mainstream Press…

wesley-snipes.jpg

Wesley Snipes, who is due to stand trial next month for eight counts of tax-evasion charges, spoke out against what he feels is systematic racism. He ruffled some feathers a few years back when he sued a major movie studio, and has not had a major movie role since. Can we all say blacklisted?  He tells Entertainment Weekly, “It was easy for people to jump on the ‘Wesley’s the bad guy’ bandwagon. That’s where I think the systematic racism comes in. We’re conditioned in this country to believe that if there’s a problem, the black man is the culprit.”  Wesley also speaks on why Blade:Trinity tanked at the box office, and yes you guessed it, racism was the cause of this travesty to.  To get some further insite into what Wesley has on his mind these days, click HERE to read the full article.
