38 Million Watch Obama Speech, More Than Beijing Cermony & Idol Finale

I would hope that people are just a tad bit more interested in the political process than Phelps, Simon, Randy and Paula. The speech was also broadcast in a live stream on the internet, so his numbers are even larger than we know. Is it me or did McCain just give the presidency to Obama today?

NEW YORK — Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention was seen by more than 38 million people.

Nielsen Media Research said more people watched Obama speak than watched the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing, the final “American Idol” or the Academy Awards this year. Obama talked before a live audience of 80,000 people in Denver.

His TV audience nearly doubled the amount of people who watched John Kerry accept the Democratic nomination to run against President Bush four years ago. Kerry’s speech was seen by just over 20 million people.

Obama’s audience might be higher, since Nielsen didn’t have an estimate for how many people watched Obama on PBS or C-SPAN Thursday night.

  1. I watched in my living room, I did not want to miss history. When my family came into town this past weekend for the holiday I had it saved on my DVR so I played it for them as well.

History was made and history will continue to be made as long as we do our part and vote. Obama has definitely done his part.

  2. I must agree with Raiheen, “great speech”….but bring the troops home!

  3. Sen. Obama gave an incredible speech that the GOP automatically jumped on, the people over at Fox decided that it was not that important, and the talking heads that Larry King had on a counter argument (great strategy by the way CNN) was even worse, but Obama did what he had to do, he came, saw and conquer, that was a great acceptance, I knew someone was going to mention that he did not go in hard enough for Dr Kings anniversary, he did not, but he made the point, you know my Mac does not recognize Obama’s name, but everyone in the world does, this speech was watched in other countries around the world, in Sweden, Russia, Denmark, Kenya, Egypt, this man actually carries the weight of the world on his shoulders, everyone aspects him to fix everything, it is going to be hard, but with Hillary in the Senate, a few justice retiring (maybe) and the Dems picking up more seats, a little work in the House is needed, so Pelosi needs to get on her job, bring the troops home, provide care for them, fix the housing crisis, thats simple stop the banks from selling the loans, and have someone accountable for it and connect everyone to everything, that is what we are trying to do, at http://www.weconnecttalent.com

  4. Black, White, latino, asian, all races have to come together and elect Obama. 8 is enough we can’t afford 4 more years of special interest groups running washington while we are in a recession.
