PE OBAMA May Have to Say Bye Bye to Crackberry

via CNN

WASHINGTON (AP) — Before he ran for president Barack Obama quit smoking. Now that he’s won the job, he may have to break another addiction: Checking his BlackBerry for e-mail.

The president’s e-mail can be subpoenaed by Congress and courts and may be subject to public records laws, so if a president doesn’t want his e-mail public, he shouldn’t e-mail, experts said. And there may be security issues about carrying around trackable cell phones.

Obama transition officials haven’t made a decision on what the new president will or will not carry, but those who have been there say it’s unlikely he’ll carry his BlackBerry and he may be in for some withdrawal pains.

“Definitely he’s going to feel an electronic detoxing,” said Reed Dickens, former assistant press secretary to President George W. Bush. Dickens jokes that he personally is so addicted to his BlackBerry that he checks his device before opening his right eye.

President-elect Obama has often been seen avidly checking his e-mail on his handheld equipment. This past summer, news cameras recorded him checking his BlackBerry while watching his daughter’s soccer game, only to have Michelle Obama slap at his hands, prompting him to return the device to its holster.

Actress Scarlett Johansson said she has had frequent e-mail exchanges with him during his campaign travels, something the Obama campaign downplayed. Continue reading

Gulf War Illness is Real, New Federal Report Says

art_mask_afp_gi

So let me get this right, it took them over a decade to acknowledge that soldiers are being exposed to hazardous conditions. So how long is it going to take them to acknowledge that soldiers may be coming home from Iraq with potential illnesses.  On news programs I’ve seen them use and expose themselves to depleted uranium aka Willie Pete. This, my friends is a lethal biological weapon, a WMD on a smaller scale. So, these soldiers (support the troops!) are going to be returning to the mainland with conditions that’ll have them radioactive, potentially ticking-time bombs. Great to know.

via CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) — An extensive federal report released Monday concludes that roughly one in four of the 697,000 U.S. veterans of the 1990-91 Gulf War suffer from Gulf War illness.

That illness is a condition now identified as the likely consequence of exposure to toxic chemicals, including pesticides and a drug administered to protect troops against nerve gas.

The 452-page report states that “scientific evidence leaves no question that Gulf War illness is a real condition with real causes and serious consequences for affected veterans.”

The report, compiled by a panel of scientific experts and veterans serving on the congressionally mandated Research Advisory Committee on Gulf War Veterans’ Illnesses, fails to identify any cure for the malady.

It also notes that few veterans afflicted with Gulf War illness have recovered over time.

“Today’s report brings to a close one of the darkest chapters in the legacy of the 1991 Gulf War,” said Anthony Hardie, a member of the committee and a member of the advocacy group Veterans of Modern Warfare. Continue reading

50 Pushes Album Back to ’09

via Billboard

Originally due Dec. 16, 50 Cent‘s new album, “Before I Self Destruct,” has been pushed to an unspecified date in early 2009.

Interscope says the artist was “rushing” to meet the December date but “with the deadline to secure advertising and retail placement for the album imminent,” the rapper opted to wait until next year.

The album boasts production and guest turns from mentors Dr. Dre and Eminem; producer Scott Storch helmed first single “Get Up.”

“Before I Self Destruct” will be bundled with a full-length feature film of the same name, in which 50 Cent plays a budding basketball star who becomes a criminal after his mother’s murder.

Early pressings of the album will also include a second DVD with the documentary “Two Turntables And A Microphone: The Life And Death Of Jam Master Jay,” which 50 Cent executive produced.

Micheal Jackson Sued Over Album Advance

The son of an Arab monarch took the King of Pop to court today (Nov. 17) in London, charging that Michael Jackson took $7 million as an advance on an album and an autobiography that he never produced.

Lawyers for Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa of Bahrain say the money was given to Jackson as an advance on the book and joint recording project with the sheikh, who is an amateur songwriter. Jackson claims the money was a gift.

Jackson and Al Khalifa were not at London’s Royal Courts of Justice as the trial opened. Jackson’s lawyers said he would seek permission to testify by a videolink from the United States.

Bankim Thanki, a lawyer for Al Khalifa, said the royal first spoke to Jackson by telephone while the singer was on trial in California on charges of child molestation.

Al Khalifa wanted to work with Jackson on rebuilding his career, Thanki said. To that end, the sheikh spent millions paying Jackson’s legal feels, moving him to Bahrain and supporting Jackson, his family and entourage. Continue reading

[video] Roc-a-Fella Freestyles Pt. 3

Wow, this clip is classic material. Beans and Free go back and forth a la Jada and Styles.  Free’s swag was on a hundred thousand trillion.  Apparently this is before he got demolished by Cassidy later on that evening, so this in all accounts is vintage Freeway.  He would never be the same.  Beans seemed sober and super focused.  You can only wonder what would’ve became out of Roc-a-Fella had it not fell to pieces.

Hulu Threatens to Upstage Rival YouTube

hulu_front_door

via Financial Times

YouTube is in danger of being upstaged commercially by a smaller upstart backed by News Corporation and NBC Universal as the video-sharing site struggles to make its massive global audience appeal to advertisers.

Hulu, a video site showing only professional TV shows and movies, is forecast to draw level with Google’s YouTube in US advertising revenues next year.

The feat suggests traditional media companies can make money online without having to cede control to Google, as the music industry did to Apple, whose iTunes music store dominates the digital music market.

It also shows the difficulties other social networks might have in generating revenues from their amateur content.

YouTube, for which Google paid $1.65bn two years ago, is by some distance the most popular online video destination, with 83m unique viewers in the US in September, compared to Hulu’s 6m, according to market researcher Nielsen.

But Hulu’s advertising revenues are growing more quickly, according to Screen Digest, a digital media research group.

Neither company breaks out its advertising revenues but Arash Amel, analyst at Screen Digest, forecasts that in 2008 YouTube will generate about $100m in the US, compared with about $70m at Hulu. Next year both sites will generate about $180m in the US, he says. YouTube currently earns around half of its revenues in the US, while Hulu has not yet launched internationally.

“YouTube is in a very tough place right now,” said Mr Amel. “Most of that user-generated content is worthless or illegal. The next 18 months will determine whether or not it was just an expensive mistake for Google.”

Matthew Liu, a YouTube advertising product manager, admits: “We’re in the early stages, I wouldn’t say we’re where we want to be.”

Advertisers prefer to associate products with well-known entertainment brands, said Tracey Scheppach, video innovations director at Starcom, a media agency. “YouTube hasn’t done a great job justifying why advertisers should migrate online.”

Shorter, amateur clips make up the vast majority of YouTube videos. Hulu’s hit shows range from The Simpsons to The Office, from media owners including NBC, Sony, Fox and Viacom.

Iraq & U.S. Set a 2012 Deadline for Withdrawal

BAGHDAD (AP) – Iraq’s Cabinet overwhelmingly approved a security pact with the United States on Sunday, ending prolonged negotiations to allow American forces to remain for three more years in the country they first occupied in 2003.The deal detailing the conditions of the U.S. presence still needs parliamentary approval, and lawmakers could vote as soon as Nov. 24. For Iraqis, the breakthrough was bittersweet because they won concessions from the Americans but must accept the presence of U.S. troops until 2012.

“It’s the best possible, available option,” said government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh. He was referring to the conflict between Iraq’s desire for full sovereignty and control over security and its need for American support and cooperation to achieve that goal.

Al-Dabbagh described the pact – intended to supplant the U.N. mandate expiring Dec. 31 – as an “agreement on the withdrawal of U.S. troops,” and Washington welcomed the Cabinet’s approval. Continue reading

Common Sets the Record Straight and Says HIP HOP is his Girl, not Serena

We have been sure Serena Williams and rapper common are dating, but look, they are denying it again.

So now, you’re dating Serena Williams?

Common: [Laughs] Nah man, I’m dating hip-hop.

I don’t know man, I saw you on a surfboard in Hawaii with her

Common: That was my first time surfing, and I had an incredible time. I’ve been on vacations with groups of friends, but of course they’re going to keep me in the pictures with Serena. They’re not going to film one of my boys, or one of my homies, like they would Serena and I.

So you’re saying you’re not dating?

Common: Nah, I’m dating hip-hop. My love is hip-hop.

So is Serena your best girl-friend?

Common: Ha, nah man. My best girl-friend is hip-hop. I’m a single man.

Oh, you can say you’re not in a relationship with Serena, but how can you say your girlfriend is hip-hop? Maybe he’s taking revenge on Serena who said that tennis was her primary interest. (via All Things Serena Williams)

Bond Blows Away Franchise Record: ‘Quantum Of Solace’ Triggers $70.4M Wkd

quantum

Daniel Craig turned out the 007 Franchise record and flipped it into a $70 million weekend for the 46-year franchise.  Quantum of Solace is Bond’s latest adventure, released on November 14 to an international audience.  They responded by the throngs, helping the SONY Picture release rake in $27 million its opening night.

via Deadline Hollywood

SUNDAY AM UPDATE: Huge pre-sales added up to a franchise record shattering opening in North American for the new Bond film. That’s phenomenal, considering 007’s 46-year history. It made $27M on Friday and another $26.1M Saturday from 3,451 theaters. So MGM/Sony were thrilled that their costly Quantum Of Solace‘s weekend grosses totaled $70.4M in North America (including Sunday’s estimate of $17.3M). That far exceeds the $60M which Hollywood expected. It’s also blows away by 73% the $40.8M North American weekend debut of Daniel Craig’s James Bond in MGM/Sony’s Casino Royale (November 2006), and easily beats the $47.1M bow of Die Another Day (November 2002) that used to be the best ever.

Quantum‘s success must be due to either pent-up demand for Hollywood’s holiday season product or Daniel Craig’s new-found popularity or both. Because the new Bond-as-Bourne’s reviews were dismal (only 35% positive from top critics on Rotten Tomatoes as opposed to 95% for its predecessor). But it appears this 22nd Bond’s delayed U.S. debut — three weeks after its October 31st bow in the UK and two weeks after most of the world — proved to be a savvy distribution and marketing move for the new pic. Even though U.S. Bond fans have been bitching and moaning all over the Internet that they didn’t want to wait so long to see the film, which so far has made a staggering $251M internationally from 73 territories, or $322M worldwide. The pic is over halfway towards Casino Royale‘s global $599.2M after coming off a $126.5M weekend overseas.
And it has yet to open in Japan, Australia and Spain.

The Vetting of Bill Begins as Hillary Prepares to Jump into Obama Cabinet

via NY Times

WASHINGTON — President-elect Barack Obama’s advisers have begun reviewing former President Bill Clinton’s finances and activities to see whether they would preclude the appointment of his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, as secretary of state, Democrats close to the situation said Sunday.

The examination of the former president suggests how seriously Mr. Obama is considering bringing his onetime rival for the Democratic presidential nomination into his cabinet. He met with Mrs. Clinton in Chicago on Thursday to talk about the prospect and word quickly filtered out. Many Democrats close to both camps said Sunday that it seemed likely that Mr. Obama would ask her to take the job, assuming they could work something out regarding Mr. Clinton’s role.

A team of lawyers trying to facilitate the potential nomination spent the weekend looking into Mr. Clinton’s philanthropic organization, interactions with foreign governments and ties to pharmaceutical companies, a Democrat close to both camps said. While Mr. Clinton has used his foundation to champion efforts to fight AIDS, poverty and climate change around the world, he has also taken millions in speaking fees and contributions from foreign officials and businesses with interests in American governmental policies. [Must Read] Mark Cuban’s Open Letter to President Obama

mark-cuban

via Huff Post

Its great to see President-elect Obama aggressively taking on the economy prior to his taking office. Unfortunately, the economic advisory team that he has put together looks more like a semester’s worth of great guest speakers for an MBA class than an economic advisory team that can truly help him.

There are a lot of great minds on the list:

Robert Rubin, Larry Summers, Laura Tyson, who served as Clinton’s top economic adviser; former Fed Vice Chairman Roger Ferguson; Time Warner Inc. Chairman Richard Parsons; former Securities and Exchange Commission chairman William Donaldson and Xerox Corp. Chief Executive Officer Anne Mulcahy.
Google Inc. CEO Eric Schmidt, Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm and Roel Campos, an ex-SEC commissioner, and Warren Buffett are also on the advisory board.

Notice anything missing?

Not a single entrepreneur. Yes Warren Buffett started a business, but he will be the first to tell you that he “doesn’t do start ups”. Which means there isn’t a single person advising PE Obama that we know of that knows what it’s like to start and run a business in this or any economic climate. That’s a huge problem. Gunfire, Mayhem Erupt in Lobby of Waldorf-Astoria

waldorf-astoria

via Boston Globe

NEW YORK—Gunfire erupted in the storied Waldorf-Astoria hotel during a brazen robbery attempt Saturday at a lobby jewelry store, wounding a security guard and sending guests diving for cover.

The 54-year-old guard was shot in the chest but was expected to survive, and a suspect was in custody, police said. Charges were pending.

Hotel guest Christine Cataldo said she was looking at a display of engagement rings near the entrance to the store, Cellini Jewelers, when she heard the first shot.

“It sounded like a bomb. One big boom. And then people started running,” said Cataldo, of Long Island. “I looked up, and I saw a man in a suit with silver hair grabbing another guy.”

The mayhem began when the 20-year-old suspect, wearing a black track suit, pulled out a gun in the jewelry store and used the weapon to smash two display cases full of expensive rings and necklaces, said a police official who spoke on condition of anonymity because detectives were still investigating.

Security guard Gregory J. Boyle, a retired New York Police Department detective, confronted the man. About three gunshots rang out as the two wrestled and fell to the floor, though it wasn’t clear who fired, the official said. Both were armed. Continue reading

Obama as Role Model for Black Youth? Not so Fast

obama-fayetteville

via Reuters

ATLANTA (Reuters) – The election of the first black president in U.S. history should send a powerful signal to young black Americans: If Barack Obama made it, so can you.

But some African Americans living in inner city Atlanta said that while Obama is a role model his life appeared so far removed from their own struggles that it was difficult to see how they could use it to spur their own success.

Others said that even something as momentous as Obama’s election would not make it easy to acquire the self-belief that they needed to move forward.

“If Barack has made it into office there is no excuse to say that America is racist because he has proved that you can do something,” said Lebron Cook, 22, who registered for the first time to vote for Obama on November 4.

Cook said he wanted to be a successful rapper and admired Jay-Z because he had made a transition from music stardom to corporate power. As an alternative Cook said he would also like to train as a pharmacist. Continue reading

World asked to Craft Online Charter for Religious Harmony

world_religions

via Breitbart

A website launched Friday with the backing of technology industry and Hollywood elite urges people worldwide to help craft a framework for harmony between all religions.

The Charter for Compassion project on the Internet at http://www.charterforcompassion.org springs from a “wish” granted this year to religious scholar Karen Armstrong at a premier Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED) conference in California.

“Tedizens” include Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin along with other Internet icons as well as celebrities such as Forest Whittaker and Cameron Diaz.

Wishes granted at TED envision ways to better the world and come with a promise that Tedizens will lend their clout and capabilities to making them come true.

Armstrong’s wish is to combine universal principles of respect and compassion into a charter based on a “golden rule” she believes is at the core of every major religion.

The Golden Rule essentially calls on people to do unto others as they would have done unto them. Continue reading

Tech Puts JFK Conspiracy Theories to Rest

via Discovery

Nov. 13, 2008 — A team of experts assembled by the Discovery Channel has recreated the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Using modern blood spatter analysis, new artificial human body surrogates, and 3-D computer simulations, the team determined that the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository was the most likely origin of the shot that killed the 35th president of the United States.

“The question we were trying to answer is, given the spatter evidence in a vehicle, and knowing an individual was sitting at a particular location, is there something we could use to determine where the shot originated?” said Steve Schliebe, a blood spatter and trace evidence specialist with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, who was part of the special investigation.

A lot of this is still fairly new, from the last 10 to 15 years,” said Bevel. “Before that we thought we knew what was going on, but because of innovations like high-speed photography we have a much better appreciation of what is actually taking place.” Continue reading

Unhappy People Watch Lots More TV

kids_watching_tv_avidimages

via Yahoo

Unhappy people glue themselves to the television 30 percent more than happy people.

The finding, announced on Thursday, comes from a survey of nearly 30,000 American adults conducted between 1975 and 2006 as part of the General Social Survey.

While happy people reported watching an average of 19 hours of television per week, unhappy people reported 25 hours a week. The results held even after taking into account education, income, age and marital status.

In addition, happy individuals were more socially active, attended more religious services, voted more and read a newspaper more often than their less-chipper counterparts.

The researchers are not sure, though, whether unhappiness leads to more television-watching or more viewing leads to unhappiness.

In fact, people say they like watching television: Past research has shown that when people watch television they enjoy it. In these studies, participants reported that on a scale from 0 (dislike) to 10 (greatly enjoy), TV-watching was nearly an 8.

But perhaps the high from watching television doesn’t last.

“These conflicting data suggest that TV may provide viewers with short-run pleasure, but at the expense of long-term malaise,” said researcher John Robinson, a sociologist at the University of Maryland, College Park. Continue reading

How Far Has Football Star Michael Vick Fallen?

via Yahoo

Michael Vick lives in a prison in Kansas, making 12 cents an hour while plotting his return to the NFL. His houses and farms will soon be gone, the two yachts are history, and he’s down to his last couple of Range Rovers.

A race horse he bought for $60,000 died of colic, the Atlanta Falcons are still trying to hit him up for millions they paid him, and the IRS and the state of Georgia want nearly $1 million in back taxes.

In 2006 he made nearly $15 million. Recently he reported total income of $12.89 for an entire month.

That’s $12.89 as in 12 dollars and 89 cents. This from someone who, before things went terribly bad, categorized a $1,000 check to his mother as “chump change.”

The numbers are cold, but they have to warm the heart of any animal lover sickened by what once went on at Vick’s Bad Newz Kennels. To many, seeing Vick stripped of the material things he and his fellow millionaire athletes like to enjoy is almost as good as watching him go to prison in the first place.

Best of all, the dogs who survived the terror of Vick’s dogfighting ring are having the last laugh. Continue reading

Scientists Find Mayan Entry to the Underworld

xibalba

Interestingly enough this discovery was made during the end of the “5th Day” in the Mayan Calendar, an age that spans 13,000 years and is referred to as the Age of Darkness.  The “6th Day” or the Age of Light, coincidentally enough began on November 13, 2008.  It culminates on December 21, 2012, which the Mayan believe is the end of this world as we know it.

via AOL

TZIBICHEN CENOTE, Mexico (Nov. 9) – Legend says the afterlife for ancient Mayas was a terrifying obstacle course in which the dead had to traverse rivers of blood, and chambers full of sharp knives, bats and jaguars.
Now a Mexican archaeologist using long-forgotten testimony from the Spanish Inquisition says a series of caves he has explored may be the place where the Maya actually tried to depict this highway through hell.
The network of underground chambers, roads and temples beneath farmland and jungle on the Yucatan peninsula suggests the Maya fashioned them to mimic the journey to the underworld, or Xibalba, described in ancient mythological texts such as the Popol Vuh.
“It was the place of fear, the place of cold, the place of danger, of the abyss,” said University of Yucatan archaeologist Guillermo de Anda.
Searching for the names of sacred sites mentioned by Indian heretics who were put on trial by Inquisition courts, De Anda discovered what appear to be stages of the legendary journey, recreated in a half-dozen caves south of the Yucatan state capital of Merida. Continue reading

Obama Has More Threats Than Any Other President-Elect

Obama 2008

via ABC News

Threats against a new president historically spike right after an election, but from Maine to Idaho law enforcement officials are seeing more against Barack Obama than ever before. The Secret Service would not comment or provide the number of cases they are investigating. But since the Nov. 4 election, law enforcement officials have seen more potentially threatening writings, Internet postings and other activity directed at Obama than has been seen with any past president-elect, said officials aware of the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity because the issue of a president’s security is so sensitive.

Earlier this week, the Secret Service looked into the case of a sign posted on a tree in Vay, Idaho, with Obama’s name and the offer of a “free public hanging.” In North Carolina, civil rights officials complained of threatening racist graffiti targeting Obama found in a tunnel near the North Carolina State University campus. King Tut Comes to Atlantis, I Mean Atlanta

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) — “Now, come, travel back in time. See where and how these rulers lived,” Harrison Ford’s deep voice beckons just before double doors swing open into a labyrinth of galleries displaying more than 130 ancient Egyptian artifacts.

The recorded introduction a la “Indiana Jones” welcomes visitors to a new exhibit featuring treasures from boy king Tutankhamun’s tomb and artifacts tied to rulers spanning 2,000 years of Egyptian history.

“Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs,” presented by Emory University’s Michael C. Carlos Museum, premieres in the United States on Saturday at the Atlanta Civic Center.

An array of objects associated with rulers dating from Egypt’s Fourth Dynasty into the Late Period (about 2600 B.C. to 660 B.C.) makes this the largest and most encyclopedic exhibit featuring Egyptian pharaohs presented in the U.S., according to exhibition curator David Silverman, who has worked on other exhibits focusing on Tutankhamun.

“A lot of people, when they hear ‘Tut,’ they think of gold, they think of the mummy, and they think of the discovery — all of which is important. But when you think of more than 300 pharaohs, 31 dynasties, [Tutankhamun’s] is only one of them,” Silverman said.Carefully focused pools of light illuminate stone pharaohs, gold and carnelian jewels and objects intended for the afterlife in darkened galleries looking at themes including the family life, religion, court and gold of the rulers. Priest Blasts Catholic Obama Voters

WTF happened to seperation of Church and State?
via AOLpriest
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Nov. 14) – A South Carolina Roman Catholic priest has told his parishioners that they should refrain from receiving Holy Communion if they voted for Barack Obama because the Democratic president-elect supports abortion, and supporting him “constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil.”

The Rev. Jay Scott Newman said in a letter distributed Sunday to parishioners at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville that they are putting their souls at risk if they take Holy Communion before doing penance for their vote.

“Our nation has chosen for its chief executive the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to serve in the United States Senate or to run for president,” Newman wrote, referring to Obama by his full name, including his middle name of Hussein.

“Voting for a pro-abortion politician when a plausible pro-life alternative exists constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil, and those Catholics who do so place themselves outside of the full communion of Christ’s Church and under the judgment of divine law. Persons in this condition should not receive Holy Communion until and unless they are reconciled to God in the Sacrament of Penance, lest they eat and drink their own condemnation.”

During the 2008 presidential campaign, many bishops spoke out on abortion more boldly than four years earlier, telling Catholic politicians and voters that the issue should be the most important consideration in setting policy and deciding which candidate to back. A few church leaders said parishioners risked their immortal soul by voting for candidates who support abortion rights.
But bishops differ on whether Catholic lawmakers – and voters – should refrain from receiving Communion if they diverge from church teaching on abortion. Each bishop sets policy in his own diocese. In their annual fall meeting, the nation’s Catholic bishops vowed Tuesday to forcefully confront the Obama administration over its support for abortion rights. Continue reading

Damon Dash: From Record & Fashion Big Shot to Has-Been Mogul

via NY Daily NewsFASHION

A bank wants his Tribeca condos, the city is seizing his SUV and his lawyer dropped him for not paying his legal bills.

It’s not easy being Damon Dash, has-been hip-hop mogul.

The co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records and Rocawear – who in 2005 sold his share in the clothing empire to Jay-Z for $20 million – is under assault in Manhattan Supreme Court from lawyers, lenders and landlords fed up with not getting paid.

The fall has been a dizzying one for Dash, who has gone from owning Keds, a vodka company and 1,300 pairs of shoes to dodging bills and accusing a former accountant of ripping him off for millions of dollars.

“I’ve worked with musicians, artists and entertainers that in the eyes of the media are very wealthy,” said lawyer Jason Gabbard, who represented a fashion firm that settled a suit against Dash and his wife over $148,505 in unpaid fees. “But to borrow a phrase from my Kentucky homeland, they haven’t got a pot to p— in – they’re broke.”

A Manhattan judge this week ordered the city to seize Dash’s Chevrolet Tahoe, since he wasn’t making the $714.99 monthly payment on the leased SUV.

That October suit came on the heels of one in August, when Eastern Savings Bank foreclosed on the $7.3 million mortgage for two trendy Tribeca condos where the monthly $78,504.26 bill went unpaid for months. Continue reading

Rahm Emanuel’s Zionist Family Begins the Anti-Arab Mudslinging

emanuel

Barack gotta watch who he brings in the Big House with him. This the same cat responsible for Lewinsky’s hotass being around Bill, now his Mossad daddy’s talking greasy before his son is even swore even. I’m sure the Zionist are salivating at the options that have suddenly opened up.

via Time/CNN

Rahm Emanuel is his own man, with an identity distinct from his father’s. He is not responsible for the actions or opinions of Benjamin Emanuel, a Chicago pediatrician who worked in the 1940s with Irgun, the militant Zionist group that committed acts against Palestinian and British targets that have been widely categorized as terrorism. (In 1938, according to the scholar Avi Shlaim, members of the group attempted to ambush an Arab bus, an attack that failed when a grenade did not detonate. In 1946, members of the group bombed the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, killing 91 people.)

But that does not mean that Rahm Emanuel, or Barack Obama for that matter, can easily ignore the fact that Benjamin Emanuel recently said a nasty thing about Arabs in the Israeli press. This is from the Jerusalem Post’s account of an interview Benjamin gave after news of his son’s appointment to the Obama administration was announced:

In an interview with Ma’ariv, Emanuel’s father, Dr. Benjamin Emanuel, said he was convinced that his son’s appointment would be good for Israel. “Obviously he will influence the president to be pro-Israel,” he was quoted as saying. “Why wouldn’t he be? What is he, an Arab? He’s not going to clean the floors of the White House.” Continue reading

Verizon Wireless to sell BlackBerry Storm for $200

storm_sbs_1_wideweb__470x2820

via Reuters

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Verizon Wireless said on Thursday that it would sell the touch-screen BlackBerry Storm for $199.99, after a rebate — in line with pricing for its popular rival, Apple Inc’s (AAPL.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) iPhone.

The wireless venture of Verizon Communications (VZ.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and Vodafone Group Plc (VOD.L: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said the first touch-screen phone from Research In Motion (RIM.TO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) would cost $199.99 after a $50 rebate for customers who sign a new two-year service contract.

Pricing for the highly anticipated device, which goes on sale online and in Verizon stores on November 21, has been the source of much speculation after Vodafone said October 31 that it would give the Storm free to UK customers who sign a contract.

U.S. carriers in particular often shoulder a big part of the price of cell phones in exchange for getting customers to commit to a two-year service contract but analysts have worried about the effect a hefty subsidy on the Storm would have on Verizon Wireless’s profit margins. Continue reading

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – U.S. sales of video game hardware and software rose 18 percent in October from a year earlier, after falling 7 percent in September, as Nintendo Co Ltd’s Wii console sold over 800,000 units, market researcher NPD reported on Thursday.

Video machine makers said the results boded well for the holiday season.

The Wii console secured its title once more as the country’s best-selling video game console after Nintendo sold 803,210 units of the Wii in October, up from 687,000 in the previous month. Wii sales have topped 13 million units since Nintendo released the console in November 2006.

Cammie Dunway, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Nintendo of America, told Reuters that sales showed consumers would continue to buy the Wii during the holidays.

U.S. consumers bought 371,000 of Microsoft Corp’s Xbox 360 console in October, up from 347,200 units in the prior month. Microsoft cut the U.S. price of its entry-level console in September to $50 below the Wii.

The price cut helped spike a 7 percent increase in Xbox 360 unit sales from September, according to NPD Analyst Anita Frazier.

“We feel cautiously optimistic (going into the holidays), we don’t see anything in this (NPD) data that leads us to believe there’s a pullback,” said Microsoft spokesman David Dennis. Continue reading

Micheal Moore’s Next Flick to Focus on Economy, and Strike End-of-the-Empire Tone

When Paramount Vantage and Overture announced Michael Moore’s long-gestating follow-up to “Fahrenheit 9/11” in May, executives stressed the film’s foreign-policy scope. “This is going to tackle what’s going on in the world and America’s place in it,” Paramount Vantage chief Nick Meyer said.

But as the political winds shifted in the months before the election — and gusted after it — Moore subtly began reorienting his movie. Instead of foreign policy, the film’s focus now is more on the global financial crisis and the U.S. economy.

The untitled movie will contain an end-of-the-empire tone, say those familiar with the project, and Moore no doubt hopes that this will give it a more general feel that will untether it from a specific political moment.

But some political and entertainment experts wonder how much Moore’s incredulousness and occasional pessimism about the state of U.S. policy, which served the filmmaker well during the George W. Bush years, will play in the current hopeful climate brought on President-elect Barack Obama. Continue reading

NEW YORK (AP) — If you’ve ever sold something on eBay, you may have been pleased to receive positive feedback from the buyer. Multiply that by a million, and you can imagine how Jack Sheng feels.

Sheng, 33, owns Los Angeles-based Eforcity Corp., which has been selling electronics accessories on the online auction site since he started his business in 2000 with two childhood friends.

In the past two months, four separate eBay user IDs belonging to Sheng and his company each surpassed more than 1 million feedback points. No one else on eBay has come close.

EBay sellers can get a positive feedback point from a buyer by sending items quickly, having them arrive as advertised and helping to solve any issues that come up. Those positive customer points are offset by any negative ratings the seller receives. Continue reading

Osama bin Laden is alive and “putting a lot of energy into his own security,” the director of the CIA, General Michael Hayden, said today.

He also claimed, without providing details, that the US intelligence community had disrupted an attack “that would have rivaled the destruction of 9/11.” A senior intelligence official said Hayden was referring to the 2006 liquid bomb on airliners plot that was foiled in London.

“American and its friends have taken the fight to the enemy,” Gen. Hayden said in a broad roundup of efforts to fight al Qaeda.

“Al Qaeda has suffered serious setbacks, but it is a determined, adaptive enemy unlike any our nation has ever faced,” he said.

Without directly referring to the CIA’s offensive blitz of unmanned missile attacks in the tribal areas of Pakistan, the CIA boss said the US had successfully isolated the al Qaeda leader bin Laden, referring to him in the present tense. Continue reading
