Damn, who would’ve ever thought that the Death of a Dynasty would leave such a looming vacuum in Hip Hop? The ROC was on their A-Game in ’01 before Nas came through and crushed their building, but those days are behind us and we need a crew of this caliber back in the booth, for the sake of the craft. Not to take a shot at Nahright, but I pulled this clip and right above it was this doo-doo freestyle from Asher Roth and Kid Cudi, two of the supposed Freshman of ’09…according to XXL. If this is what the game got to offer in the New Year, then Hip Hop is headed back to the cemetery.
and that my friend, is SCAR-REE…Hip Hop’s “voice” is needed now more than ever, its ability to be critical and inspire thought-provoking convo is SO needed right now. UMC is just not going to spark those convos, I am surprised that Common took his music in this direction.
Wow, what a difference in quality … yuck. I remember seeing that cover of the Freshman ’09 for hiphop an didn’t even bother opening the magazine. Seriously, hiphop is gonna be stagnant for a while. There isn’t really any new talent, and if there is, the talent is underground. The only good people we have out are over 30.
It’s sad but still … time to listen to Universal Mind Control.
