Despite occasional violent lyrics, the West Coast rap veteran proclaimed his pledge of peace.

“I’m already in the Nation, that’s why I’m here,” Snoop said in an interview. “I’m an advocate for peace. I’ve been in the peace movement ever since I’ve been making music. My whole thing is not about trying to push my thing on you. It’s just about the way I live, and I live how I’m supposed to live as far as doing what’s right and representing what’s right. That’s why I was here today.” (BBC News)

Snoop also made a donation and Tip appeared at the conference via video.Snoop had given a $1,000 donation and said he will always seek the minister out. He called himself the “leader of the hip-hop community” and said it had been his first Saviours Day event. He told followers that he would share the information he gathered with other artists. Rapper Doug E. Fresh also attended the convention although not speaking publicly and rapper T.I. appeared via recorded video. He told followers that education is the key to success. (Keep It Trill)

Tip has also been promoting peace and community involvement, despite recently receiving critiscm for an Atlanta Crimestoppers commercial he appeared in last fall.

“I ain’t trippin’,” Tip told SOHH. “Can’t nobody challenge my integrity…I ain’t told nobody to go and get yourself in trouble and tell on somebody to get yourself out of trouble. I said man, if there’s an old lady walking down the street and you see her getting knocked down and beat up, call somebody and do something about it. I don’t see that as snitching man, I see that as being responsible for your neighborhood. Anybody who disagree, so be it. They can shove it up they a** sideways if they don’t like it. I don’t care.” (SOHH)
