COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gamers lined up at midnight Tuesday, awaiting one the biggest releases in video game history, 10TV’s Andy Hirsch reported.

Modern Warfare 2, the latest release in the Call of Duty video game series, went on sale at midnight and most stores were met with crowds.

It could be the biggest video game debut in history, and could make more money in one day than any other entertainment debut, Hirsch reported.

It’s expected to have record breaking sales with some analysts predicting $300 million on Tuesday alone – better than almost any opening weekend at the box office.

Alex Levasseur, a lifelong gamer, said he knows the stereotypes out there.

“It’s more of a ‘You’re too old to play games,’ or ‘It’s for kids,’ or anything along those lines,” Levasseur said.

“This is the largest release – not only this year – but it should be the largest release ever,” Levasseur said.

And he should know – as the Micro Center’s assistant gaming buyer, Levasseur sees his fair share of video games.

The Call of Duty series has a long history in the gaming world — but the first Modern Warfare brought it to the masses — selling millions of copies the first few months, Hirsch reported.

Levasseur said the sequel includes the gaming experience fans have come to expect, with even more options.

“They’ve, in essence, just taken everything that was good and made it great,” Levasseur said.

Modern Warfare 2 hit stores Tuesday for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and computers.

It is rated M for mature audiences.
