A television series about zombies? Believe it or not folks, the Frank Darabont produced AMC series The Walking Dead is one of the most anticipated shows on the fall schedule. Darabont, no stranger to serialized fiction or horror, having adapted and directed three Stephen King stories for the big screen, took an interest in the Image comics black and white publication created by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore. It was a pretty gruesome and inventive series, which followed its own rules and focused on small-town police officer Rick Grimes who along with his family, bands together with a number of survivors to journey through a world stricken by a zombie apocalypse.
The AMC series re-unites Darabont with his The Majestic and The Mist star Laurie Holden and also features Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Prison Break’s Sarah Wayne Callies as his wife Lori, Chandler Riggs, Jeffrey DeMunn, John Bernthal, Steven Yuen, Michael Rooker and Norman Reedus. Darabont, who is producing, directing and writing for the series has shot the first season entirely on 16mm film, with Gale Anne Hurd serving as executive producer.
