The federal government unveiled new dietary guidelines Monday that urge certain people to cut down on salt.
The guidelines, which are updated every five years, recommend that people over age 51, African-Americans and people with a history of hypertension, diabetes or kidney problems limit their daily salt intake to a little over a half a teaspoon. For everyone else, the daily recommendation remains at 2,300 milligrams — about one teaspoon of salt.

A Ugandan gay rights activist whose name appeared on a tabloid “hit list” has been found beaten to death in his home. “He was killed by someone who came in his house with a hammer, meaning anyone else could be the next target,” said a fellow activist. David Kato’s name, picture, and address were printed by the newspaper in its list of the country’s “top homos,” which appeared under the headline “Hang Them,” the BBC reports. Kato successfully sued the paper and won an injunction blocking all Ugandan media from outing gays.

Do not read this headline and think it is okay to be heavy. This study has some serious problems in it. In essence it is singling black women out and saying it okay for you to be a bit fatter before you are at risk for diabetes and heart disease which I totally disagree with. “What the study does show is that there is a strong relationship between obesity and risk factors in white and African-American men and women,” Katzmarzyk said. “This relationship is robust in all groups, so no one is immune from the effects of obesity.”
As it stands, men are considered to have abdominal obesity when their waistline tops 40 inches; for women, the threshold is 35 inches. Abdominal obesity, in turn, raises a person’s risk of diabetes and heart disease.
Another way to look at the weight-health question is through body mass index (BMI) — a measure of weight in relation to height. People with a BMI of 30 or higher are considered obese, and they generally have a higher risk of diabetes and heart disease than thinner people.

I am all for Flavor Flavor opening up a business, but are we not at fried chicken overload in this country? Fried foods have been proven to be the precursor to heart disease, obesity, and a bunch of other ailments, and the last thing people need is another fried chicken joint.

Rapper and reality show star Flavor Flav is opening a fried chicken restaurant in Clinton, Iowa. Why Clinton, Iowa, which even Flav admits is “way out here in the middle of some place”? His business partner, Nick Cimino, is from Clinton, and it was his idea to open the restaurant, which is located next door to a KFC. Flav had previously sold his chicken wings at a restaurant Cimino owns in Las Vegas.
