Snoop Dogg gives his thoughts on the remake of Roots which debuted tonight on the History channel starring Laurence Fishburne · Mekhi Phifer · Forest Whitaker · Produced By LeVar Burton.
via USA Today
Earlier, Roots co-executive producer LeVar Burton, who played the central character in the 1977 miniseries, enslaved protagonist Kunta Kinte, told USA TODAY that the remake was needed as part of a national discussion.
“We are clearly engaged in the conversation in America and it’s one where everybody needs to be involved,” Burton says. “If you are living in America right now, then the story of slavery is relevant to you, because it’s shaped the country and the culture in which you live, whether you want to admit that or not.”

A zoo shot and killed a 17-year-old gorilla that grabbed and dragged a four-year-old boy who fell into the gorilla exhibit moat on Saturday afternoon, the Cincinnati Zoo’s director said.
Authorities said the boy, who fell 10 to 12 feet, is expected to recover after being picked up out of the moat and dragged by the 400-pound male, lowland gorilla named Harambe.
The boy was in the moat for about 10 minutes and was in between the gorilla’s legs when the gorilla was shot, according to WLWT.
While zoo officials are still investigating, they believe the boy crawled through a railing barrier, and then fell into the moat.

Just two months after Barcelona officially declared itself ‘veg-friendly, friend of vegan and vegetarian culture’, twenty vegan activists from AnimaNaturalis took part in a street performance, at Placa Sant Jaume, Sunday, to protest against the production and consumption of meat.
Performers stripped naked and crouched on human-sized trays, while other activists poured fake blood on them, packaged them up, and presented them to onlookers as a row of meat products to be bought in a supermarket.
This shit is bananas.

While many people were upset with the lack of diversity at this year’s Oscars, Russell Simmons is looking at the bigger picture and he told VladTV that there needs to be more diversity in all of Hollywood. The famed business magnate explained that there are no Black people running companies, which he believes is a big problem.
During the conversation the Def Jam co-founder spoke about the lack of Black comedians since Def Comedy Jam left HBO. He explained that the show gave a lot of Black comedians an opportunity that wasn’t there before, and Russell added that while Kevin Hart is a huge name today, he says that Hollywood wanted nothing to do with him at first.
Check out more topics that we covered with Russell in the above clip, including his thoughts on Stacey Dash, and much more.
So innocent lions [who have been taken out of the wild] put into a zoo for entertainment purposes are put down because some maniac decides he wants to off himself. This incident only reaffirms that animals belong in the wild. Hit the cut for the video that looks like it was shot on a Nextel flip phone..

A NAKED man who jumped into the big cat enclosure at a Chilean zoo in a desperate ‘suicide bid’ survived – but only after the lions attacking him were shot dead.
Santiago authorities confirmed the two beasts were killed as they mauled the 20-year-old who had broken into their compound early on Saturday.
The man, who has not been named, was accidently hit with a tranquiliser as zookeepers frantically tried to put the lions to sleep.

I don’t think I have heard a rap song played this much.. ever. At this point did they even need a video?

Remember when Rick Ross (who is under indictment for assault and kidnapping) had those problems a few years back with the Gangsta Disciples aka the Gd’s?
In a nutshell the start probably occurred when Ross famously penned the lines “I think I’m a Big Meech, Larry Hoover..” and using the Gangster Disciples gang symbol for one of his mixtapes. They were not enthused.

The indictment also says that in November 2012 the gang threatened a rapper, identified only by the initials “R.R.,” with violence unless he paid them for using the gang’s name and symbols.
Prosecutors declined to identify the artist, but rapper Rick Ross has mentioned the gang in lyrics. Ross canceled shows around the time the threats were made, but he told WEDR radio in Miami in December 2012: “I canceled the rest of the tour due to a promoter, because he wasn’t really handling his business. … Never was it due to any threats.”
Ross’ publicist didn’t immediately respond to an email Wednesday.
ATLANTA — Among the four dozen alleged Gangster Disciples members charged in indictments unsealed Wednesday, one sticks out: An Atlanta-area police officer who prosecutors say claimed to be a hit man for the violent gang and tipped off other members about police activity.
The real legacy of Bill and Hill.
During his TSU address, Minister Farrakhan commented on the upcoming presidential election and the appeal for votes by Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, who backed a 1990s Crime Bill which devastated Black communities.
Yeah this happened.
Well-known ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith spoke as the headliner of the Office of Multicultural Students’ Black History month-long list of events. Smith during that talk told students that “racism doesn’t exist” for them.
I am admittedly way late on Lil Dicky. With that being said, I am still on the fence about this dude but there is obviously some type of talent there. Let’s just say he has some sort of early Eminem influence at least in this song.

Safe to say that they had the identical surgeon as well.
CURVY twins Miriam and Michelle Carolus claim their whopping four-foot butts are the result of an eye-watering 2000 squats A DAY. The aspiring models have used their dazzling derrieres to make a name for themselves and so far earned nearly 250,000 followers on Instagram. But they deny their success is due to surgery, saying it’s down to a dedicated regime that sees them mirroring each other’s lifestyle to pedantic detail. The girls even live next-door to each other in Miami, Florida, and work for the same plastic surgeon – but say the only work they’ve had is matching $5000 boob jobs.
Another icon of the black community has passed away. Producers of the upcoming Tupac biopic are definitely going to press the gas with getting this into the theaters with the untimely passing of Afeni.

Gonna give Russell credit for keeping it 100 here when he speaks on the impact of Chuck D on Def Jam and Hip Hop culture on a whole.
The burning question most hip-hop heads have is: Why did Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons split up? While talking to DJ Vlad, Russell explained that they went on to work on different projects and focused on other artists. As for Simmons ultimately walking away from his position at Def Jam, the mogul says that he built it and gradually started pulling away from his post while juggling his other business ventures, and relied on the people who were smarter than him, who he believed in.
Watch the full interview above to hear Russell explain why he’s never had a rap beef, Chuck D inspiring the Million Man March, and much more.
This is the only part of the interview I have seen. Not sure how serious he is, but from the looks of this clip, it is definitely a possibility.
