Elon Musk has issued a new warning about advanced machines.
The Tesla founder, who has been highly critical of artificial intelligence developers over recent months, has revealed his thoughts on Atlas, the backflipping humanoid robot.
A video released by Boston Dynamics earlier this month shows the machine backflip off a raised platform, land perfectly on its feet and raise its arms in the air as if to celebrate.
“This is nothing,” Mr Musk tweeted in response to the footage. “In a few years, that bot will move so fast you’ll need a strobe light to see it. Sweet dreams…”
After being asked to clarify exactly what he meant by the strobe light comment, he added, “Otherwise you’d only see a blur.”
He then followed this up with an update calling for the regulation of AI and robotics, something he believes to be not only necessary but urgent.
“Got to regulate AI/robotics like we do food, drugs, aircraft & cars. Public risks require public oversight. Getting rid of the FAA wdn’t make flying safer. They’re there for good reason.”
As pointed out by François Chollet, a machine learning and artificial intelligence software engineer at Google, Atlas isn’t an AI bot.

Charlie Murphy, Eddie’s older brother, and a very successful and popular stand-up comedian in his own right … TMZ has learned.
According to Charlie’s manager, he died from leukemia Wednesday morning in a NYC hospital. He’d been going undergoing chemotherapy.

Dr. David Dao was charged in 2005 with 98 felony drug counts for illegally prescribing and trafficking painkillers. Prosecutors claimed Dao fraudulently filled prescriptions for hydocodone, Oxycontin and Percocet.
Dr. Dao was also convicted on 6 felony counts of obtaining drugs by fraud and deceit and in 2005 was given 5 years probation.

Miami music producer Harrison Garcia, on trial for federal drug charges, used Instagram to upload photos of himself posing with exotic cars, stacks of cash, and rappers Chris Brown and Lil Wayne.
But investigators believe he did more than just party with the hip-hop stars.
Federal authorities on Thursday revealed they are investigating a $15,000 wire transfer last year from Brown to the bank account of Garcia, who boasted that the money was for drugs and the popular cough syrup-and-soda known as “lean.” And Garcia, when he was first arrested last October, confessed that he sold Lil Wayne “a lot of narcotics,” a federal agent testified on Thursday in Garcia’s trial for drug dealing.
Pressed for more details by Garcia’s defense attorney, the agent declined to say more.
