Given that sex is one of the most natural forces in the universe, I thought I’d explain a few things to you. You don’t have to take my advice, and I don’t know everything.  But when it’s all said and done and you are lying in the bed you’ve made for yourself, you’ll realize that the most significant events in your life come down to whether or not you made good choices or bad ones.

Here are five things to consider before having sex:

1)      Why are you doing this anyway?

Sadly enough, commercialized hip hop on the radio makes its billions by teaching black men to have sex with any pretty thing with a working vagina.   The rule is that if she’s “fine” and she’s willing, then you’d be a fool not to take it.  The sad part of this story is that a lot of brothers soon find that a toxic woman, even one with a beautiful smile, can make you wish you were never born.  Evelyn Lozada, the violent Sasquatch on Basketball Wives might be a perfect case-in-point.

In additional to women who can be flat out evil and devious, there are others who are walking public health alerts.  Everything that looks clean is not.  Speaking of which…..

Spanish Docs: Vaccine could reduce HIV to ‘minor infection’

Spanish researchers found that 22 of 24 healthy people (92 per cent) developed an immune response to HIV after being given their MVA-B vaccine.
Professor Mariano Esteban, head researcher on the project at the National Biotech Centre in Madrid, said of the jab: “It is like showing a picture of the HIV so that it is able to recognise it if it sees it again in the future.”

At least 16 previously unpublicized HIV cases in porn film performers, public health officials say [UPDATED]

A deathblow to the industry?

Los Angeles County officials released public health data this afternoon indicating that 16 previously unpublicized cases of HIV had been confirmed in adult film industry performers since 2004 when an outbreak shut down porn production for a month.

The 2004 cases — involving a male porn star, three actresses he had worked with and an unrelated case in a transsexual performer — drew intense scrutiny to safety practices in the industry.

The newly released data brings the number of known HIV cases in adult film performers to 22 since 2004, including a porn actress who tested positive late last week. At least 10 of those cases involved men who had sex with other men, according to health officials.

In all, 16 men and 5 women who worked as adult film industry performers contracted HIV between 2004 and 2008, according to Los Angeles County Department of Public Health data requested by The Times.

Between 1998 and 2003, 14 confirmed HIV cases were reported among adult film performers, according to the health department.

Pope Says Condoms Make AIDS Worse. WTF!

Pope Benedict XVI has declared that condom use not only doesn’t slow down the spread of HIV/AIDS, but actually makes the pandemic worse.via Global Grind

“You can’t resolve [AIDS] with the distribution of condoms,” the pope told reporters on Tuesday aboard a plane headed to Cameroon, Africa, a continent ravaged by AIDS. “On the contrary, it increases the problem. [AIDS] is a tragedy that cannot be overcome by money alone, that cannot be overcome through the distribution of condoms, which even aggravates the problems.”

According to the New York Times, Benedict has never addressed condom use. Predecessor Pope John Paul II often proclaimed abstinence, not condoms, would prevent the deadly spread of AIDS.

The Roman Catholic Church rejects the use of condoms based on its teachings against artificial contraception.

HIV and AIDS cases rise 22 percent in D.C.

A new report by D.C. health officials says that at least 3 percent of residents in the nation’s capital are living with HIV or AIDS and every mode of transmission is on the rise.

The findings in the 2008 epidemiology report by the D.C. HIV/AIDS Administration point to a severe epidemic that’s impacting every race and sex across the population and neighborhoods.

Scheduled to be released Monday, the report says that the number of HIV and AIDS cases jumped 22 percent from the nearly 12,500 reported in 2006. Almost 1 in 10 residents between ages 40 and 49 are living with HIV, and black men had the highest infection rate at almost 7 percent.

The report says that the virus is most often transmitted by men having sex with men, followed by heterosexual transmission and injection drug use.

Getting High on HIV Drugs in S Africa

Anti-retroviral drugs used to treat HIV/Aids are being bought and smoked by teenagers in South Africa to get high.

Reports suggest that the drugs are being sold by patients and even healthcare staff for money.

Schoolchildren have been spotted smoking the drugs, which are ground into powder and sometimes mixed with painkillers or marijuana.

Aids patients themselves have been found smoking the drugs instead of taking them as prescribed.

Anti-retrovirals are used to boost the immune system of people with HIV and to suppress the virus in the blood.

“I couldn’t believe it. I was shocked at first, these were school boys in their school uniforms,” documentary-maker Tooli Nhlapo told the BBC World Service’s Outlook programme.

“They take a pill and grind it, until it is a powder. Some also mix it with painkillers and others mix it with marijuana,” said Ms Nhlapo. “They showed me how they roll it and smoke it.”

When the South African Broadcasting Corporation documentary-maker first investigated the story, she was told to wait until school finished, so she could actually see how young some of the users were.

“I thought I was going to go to a tavern and see older drug addicts doing this, but I was shocked when I saw school children,” she said.

Study Says HIV Is About 100 Years Old

NEW YORK (Oct. 1) – The AIDS virus has been circulating among people for about 100 years, decades longer than scientists had thought, a new study suggests. Genetic analysis pushes the estimated origin of HIV back to between 1884 and 1924, with a more focused estimate at 1908.

Previously, scientists had estimated the origin at around 1930. AIDS wasn’t recognized formally until 1981 when it got the attention of public health officials in the United States.

The new result is “not a monumental shift, but it means the virus was circulating under our radar even longer than we knew,” says Michael Worobey of the University of Arizona, an author of the new work.

The results appear in Thursday’s issue of the journal Nature. Researchers note that the newly calculated dates fall during the rise of cities in Africa, and they suggest urban development may have promoted HIV’s initial establishment and early spread.

Women Across the World Reject the Female Condom

Where female condoms have been made available, they’ve proven to be an effective defense in sexual matters.

“This is a 15-year scandal born of ignorance and inertia,” said Oxfam International spokesperson Farah Karimi, in a press statement released during last week’s International AIDS Conference in Mexico City. “We now know that millions of women might have been spared HIV, unwanted pregnancies, and empowered themselves in the process, if they had access to this simple method.”

Cost has also been an obstacle.

Carlos Zarco, director of Rostros y Voces, the observer member of Oxfam International in Mexico, said: “The female condom is 18 times more expensive than a male condom. It’s obvious why women are not using it more.”

On drugstore.com, five female condoms cost a hefty $17.89 compared with the $7.19 charged for 12 men’s condoms.

Online Music Service to Benefit AIDS in Africa Relief

The music business is known for supporting causes with events like the Live Aid and Live Earth concerts, which generate lots of money and publicity for a relatively short time. But on Monday (RED), a nonprofit organization that arranges for companies to contribute a share of profits on certain products to fight AIDS in Africa, is starting a digital music service for that purpose, and it plans to operate for the long haul. The new venture has already arranged to release new songs from U2, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, Elton John, Emmylou Harris and Death Cab for Cutie.

The still-unnamed service, which is scheduled to start in September, will deliver customers three new pieces of exclusive content a week for a monthly fee of $5. Half of that money will go through (RED) to the Global Fund, and the other half will go to the artists who contribute songs and to their record companies. As with (RED)’s branded products, like a special iPod and Motorola phone, companies will sacrifice part but not all of their profits, and consumers will know that some of the money they spend goes to the AIDS-in-Africa cause.

Sex In the City? Study Says 1 in 4 New Yorkers Have Herpes

Now might be the time for New Yorkers to take advantage of the free condom campaign the city promotes. A new study by the city’s Health Department found more than a quarter of adult residents are infected with the herpes virus.

According to the study, 26 percent of city residents have the virus that causes genital herpes, an incurable sexually-transmitted infection that can cause painful genital sores and can double a person’s risk for HIV.

Nationally, 19 percent of the population has the infection, according to the department.

More specifically, the study showed that the rate is higher among women than men – 36 percent compared to 19 percent – and was higher among blacks than whites – 49 percent versus 14 percent, respectfully.

Study Says Threat of AIDS Pandemic Amongst Hetero’s is Over

A quarter of a century after the outbreak of Aids, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has accepted that the threat of a global heterosexual pandemic has disappeared.

In the first official admission that the universal prevention strategy promoted by the major Aids organisations may have been misdirected, Kevin de Cock, the head of the WHO’s department of HIV/Aids said there will be no generalised epidemic of Aids in the heterosexual population outside Africa.

Dr De Cock, an epidemiologist who has spent much of his career leading the battle against the disease, said understanding of the threat posed by the virus had changed. Whereas once it was seen as a risk to populations everywhere, it was now recognised that, outside sub-Saharan Africa, it was confined to high-risk groups including men who have sex with men, injecting drug users, and sex workers and their clients.

Thousands of people in Africa will be paid to avoid unsafe sex, under a groundbreaking World Bank-backed experiment aimed at halting the spread of Aids.

The designers of the Tanzanian programme believe that payments of $45 when combined with careful counselling could play an important role in reducing HIV infection, especially for vulnerable young women.

“Conditional cash transfers” have already been used in Latin America to motivate poor parents to attend health clinics, and have their children vaccinated and schooled. Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York, last year unveiled a project to boost school attendance.

Em To Perform In London For Mandela’s Birthday

The much anticipated return of Marshall Mathers aka Eminem will occur on June 27th in front of a crowd of 45,000 gathered in London’s Hyde Park to celebrate the birthday of Nelson Mandela. Yup, you read it right Slim Shady has been requested to serenade former South African President Mandela, joining the ranks of Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Spice Girls and U2. The event will be hosted by Will Smith and Jada Pinkett. Mandela’s AIDS charity 46664 will be the recipient of the money raised from this bash which will certainly turn into a blowout event with the inclusion of Em, who has turned into somewhat of a recluse (its even rumored he’s ballooned to over 200 lbs!). He hasn’t graced a stage in over two years or released a studio album since 2006. For those of you wondering how this came about, a publicist involved with the event said this:

“We wanted some of the greatest artists from recent times and Eminem was on the list. I contacted Eminem’s management on the off-chance and never expected him to go for it.”

Apparently Em and his people must’ve seen this as the perfect setting to stage a comeback, especially since his career has been dogged by accusations of him being a closet racist, stemming from those long-lost recordings that were unearthed by Dave Mays and Benzino in which Em was calling black women “bitches.”
