The House and Senate voted to override President Obama’s veto of JASTA, the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, which will allow 9/11 victims and families to sue Saudi Arabia for the 2001 terror attacks. Obama criticized the lawmakers, saying the bill’s passage could expose U.S. troops and diplomats to legal retaliation overseas. NBC’s Andrea Mitchell reports for TODAY from the White House.

Over the Labor Day weekend, Chicago hit a deadly milestone with its 500th recorded homicide of the year. According to The Chicago Tribune, the Windy City has now logged more homicides than New York City and Los Angeles combined in 2016 and is on pace to reach a homicide level that has not been seen for over 20 years. According to a police spokesman, of the 512 homicides in 2016 tallied by the Tribune, 488 fell under the jurisdiction of the Chicago Police Department. The last time Chicago exceeded 480 murders in a year was in 2003, when there were 601.

So you can randomly jump over the White House gate and not get shot and black kids across the country getting shot with their hands up, buying candy, and playing rap music.

According to reports, a man made it over the White House fence today before he was taken down by a U.S.S.S. dog. Although reports say the Secret Service responded quickly, video from the incident shows the man was not immediately surrounded.

The man managed to kick one dog and repeatedly punch and wrestle another dog before Secret Service agents ultimately subdued him.

Maine Republican Olympia Snowe said she was laying aside misgivings for now and voting to advance the bill, a sweeping $829-billon, 10-year health care remake that would help most Americans get coverage without creating a new government insurance plan. “When history calls, history calls,” said Snowe.

Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., called his bill “a commonsense, balanced solution.” A distance runner, Baucus has endured months of marathon meetings to get this far. It’s not the finish line.

After September 11th, Bush’s approval ratings were near or above 90%. Practically the entire country was behind him – saluting and ready for duty. Yes, the Left did try to derail his plans for Iraq – but they failed. And when millions (actual millions) of Americans came out to protest that war – – it was largely ignored by the media. But when 70,000 lunatics came to DC last week to protest “Government Spending” (which, let’s be honest, is a euphemism for “Barack Hussein Obama”) – they got massive amounts of media coverage and hours of pundit commentary.

Every tea-party rally has been aggressively championed, and all-but-sponsored, by cable-news giant FOX. CODE PINK was almost completely ignored (which, as a liberal, I’m kinda glad about — but I still stand behind my larger point). A couple went to a Bush rally wearing anti-Bush T-Shirts and got arrested. Guys standing outside Obama rallies openly carry guns and get interviewed by the media.

The heaviest hitters in the Republican party, and in the conservative media have loudly and proudly called for Obama’s failure. Liberals who even softly criticized Bush were roundly shamed and called terrorist-loving-America-haters. George W. Bush, despite the controversial beginning of his presidency, was given the chance – – no, in fact, after 9/11, he was given all the unopposed freedom in the world to succeed or fail based upon his own decisions and his own performance. Bush EARNED his hatred.

Obama has not had that luxury.

He also does not have the luxury of the Clinton inheritance. He was left with a steaming pile of doo-doo and a debt already in the stratosphere. And yet they also blame him for that.

Among Weeks and her friends, President Barack Obama’s name has become shorthand for a black man with integrity, character and spirituality, one who loves and values his wife and makes his family a priority — in other words, the kind of man that many black women had despaired of finding.

Weeks said probably every single woman she knows is looking for her “Barack.”

“He absolutely makes me think it’s attainable,” said Weeks, a divorced mom in Somerset, N.J. “For women who are older and seeking a man, I think we can look at him and say, ‘All is not lost.'”

The story is the same elsewhere among black women, who say the new code word for Prince Charming has become so commonplace that they have been asked “Have you found your Barack?” or told others “I’m looking for my Barack.”

Obama’s sex appeal hasn’t hurt — what other president would get high marks in a swimsuit competition? But he has touched a nerve among black women in particular, who consider him an IBM (Ideal Black Man) — educated, eloquent, tall, attractive, family oriented, ambitious and down to earth. Obama Gets History Lesson From Latin American Leaders

April 18 (Bloomberg) — Latin American leaders railed against the U.S. during President Barack Obama’s first trip to the region, turning what was intended to mark a new direction in relations into a history lesson that chastised “Yankee troop” interventions and U.S.-dictated economic policies.

Obama arrived at the Fifth Summit of the Americas in Trinidad and Tobago yesterday promising to “listen and learn” from regional leaders. He got an earful.

In the weekend’s first speeches, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega and Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner voiced grievances on issues ranging from the U.S. drug war to American support for counterinsurgency movements of the 1980s. Both urged Obama to end the 47-year-old trade embargo against Cuba, the only country in the Americas excluded from the 34-nation summit.

“For many years, there have been traumatic relations,” Fernandez said. “I want you to know, Obama, that this is in no way a reproach against you. It’s simply an exercise to look back at what happened.”

Obama is trying to revive U.S. influence in Latin America that waned under President George W. Bush as the war on terror diverted attention to the Middle East and the region expanded economic and diplomatic ties with U.S. rivals such as Russia and China. Continue reading →
