After he was released from jail for a separate case, fellow drug lord Oscar Danilo Blandón reached out to him for one last job. At this point Ricky had stopped selling cocaine, but was asked to introduce Blandon to a deal, which ultimately turned out to be faulty. “People’s head are popping up at out cars and it was a set up,” Freeway Ricky says of the day he was arrested for his ties to the Contras. “I wanted a 20-year deal, and they offered me a plea where I plead guilty, and if the judge wanted to give me 20 she could. If she wanted to give me life, she could. I said ‘Nah, I’ll take my chance on appeal.'”

Court records obtained by The News show Perez was part of a massive cocaine distribution case in 1994. Following her arrest, she became a key government cooperator, going undercover to help the DEA build successful cases against major traffickers in Puerto Rico and Colombia.

Cooperation with the feds won her supervised release, but she went on the lam and then served nine months in prison.

Perez was a 26-year-old mother of young children in 1994 when she was arrested in New York for possession with intent to distribute 35 kilograms of cocaine, according to court records reviewed by The News.

Reggae star Buju Banton pleads not guilty

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – Jamaican reggae star Buju Banton has pleaded not guilty to a drug charge in a Florida federal court.

Banton was arraigned Thursday on a charge of conspiring to buy more than five kilograms of cocaine from an undercover law enforcement officer in Sarasota last month. The 36-year-old singer, born Mark Myrie, did not seek bail. If he bonded out of jail, he would be held by immigration officials.

Now Banton, a Jamaican performer whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, is in federal prison in Miami, the Miami Herald reports.

He’s been in custody since Thursday, arrested on a charge of conspiracy to possess, with intent to distribute, more than 5 kilograms of cocaine, a DEA spokesman said.

The Royal Navy says it has seized its biggest haul of cocaine, estimating its street value at £240m ($380m).

The Portsmouth-based frigate HMS Iron Duke seized more than five-and-a-half tonnes of the drug from a 138ft fishing boat off the coast of Colombia.

The Royal Navy and US Coastguard jointly intercepted the boat after it was spotted by a navy helicopter crew.

Armed Forces Minister Bill Rammell praised the operation for “damaging the trade in this vile substance”.

Germany Bans Red Bull After Finding Traces of Cocaine

The authorities in six German states have ordered retailers to stop selling Red Bull Cola energy drinks after traces of cocaine were found in it.

The recall came after a sample analysis conducted in North-Rhine Westphalia found one litre of the drink contained 0.4 micrograms of the banned substance.

Officials said the cocaine levels were too low to pose a health threat but were not permitted in foodstuffs.

Red Bull said its cola was “harmless and marketable” in both the US and EU.

The company said coca leaf extracts were used worldwide as a natural flavoring, and that its own tests had found no traces of cocaine.

A police chase in Peñitas ends in a load of drugs, but what police say they’ve never seen is what the smugglers wrote on the bundles of marijuana.

Peñitas Police Chief Oscar Ontiveros says written on top of some of the packages were the words “Obama-USA” and “Obama-USA, Calderon-Mexico.”

Investigators say the message may have something to do with President Obama’s recent trip to Mexico.

Ontiveros says, “I think they’re trying to mock the president’s efforts to fight drugs.”

The drugs will be turned over to state or federal agents for further investigation.

In what can arguably be considered a hip-hop public service announcement, Malice – one half of the Virgina rap duo Clipse – put out a short video on his newly launched blog to address his real life versus the drug-dealing life he rhymes about.

As previously reported Anthony “Geezy” Gonzalez, an associate of the Clipse,  was recently indicted for running a $10 million drug ring in Virgina Beach.

Without specifically mentioning the situation, Malice released a Vlog speaking about how his rap verses are more fantasy than reality. “There’s a lot of foolishness in hip-hop as my grandmother would say,” he said. “And I just want to say that I am and have been a part of the problem, the thing about it is I need foolishness in my hip-hop, I need foolishness in my movies. I happen to like that. To me a movie is not good unless you got some bricks being moved or a few people get killed.”

Former Clipse Manager Indicted For $10 Mil Drug Ring

Former Clipse manager and nightclub owner Anthony “Geezy” Gonzalez has been charged in U.S. District Court with running a $10 million a year drug ring.

According to federal documents, Gonzalez’s 6 year drug empire has allegedly moved 100 pounds of cocaine and over a ton of marijuana through Hampton Roads, Virginia since 2003.

Authorities suspect Gonzalez imported the drugs from Panama Florida, California, and Arizona.

The 82-count indictment states that Gonzalez laundered drug money through several front businesses, including the Clipse’s booking agency Soul Providers Management.

The federal document elaborates that the defendants painted “themselves out as music producers, rappers, entrepreneurs, club owners, clothing designers and other legitimate occupations in order to conceal the true source of their income.”

$2 Million in Drugs Found in Truck Stopped in Richmond

The Fort Bend County Narcotics Task Force arrested a suspected Mexican drug smuggler who they say transported $2 million worth of cocaine and marijuana through Richmond in the belly of a tractor trailer.

Truck driver Guadalupe Perales, 32, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, over 2,000 pounds and possession of a controlled substance, over 200 grams.

Perales remained in the Fort Bend County jail Monday on $160,000 bail. An immigration hold had not been placed on him as of late Monday, officials said.

On Wednesday, Highway Criminal Interdiction Investigators stopped a tractor trailer traveling south on U.S. 59 near FM 762. Drug agents searched the vehicle and discovered about 3,348 pounds of marijuana in specially designed containers in the tractor portion of the rig and more than 200 pounds of cocaine in the trailer.

Officials seized the drugs and vehicle.

Officials suspect Perales is a drug smuggler employed by an organization based in Mexico. No further information about his possible connection was available.

ATLANTA – A man prosecutors call a “senior member” of the Black Mafia Family has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for cocaine conspiracy.

Fleming Daniels of Roswell, Ga., also was fined $10,000 for participating in the violent drug gang, the focus of federal prosecution in Atlanta, Detroit, Los Angeles, Louisville, Ky., Orlando, Fla., and elsewhere.

The 35-year-old Daniels is the first of 16 defendants indicted in Atlanta to go to trial. Eleven entered guilty pleas. Three others are in custody and one is a fugitive.

Evidence showed that during 2003-2004, the gang moved hundreds of kilograms of cocaine into Atlanta, Detroit, and other points. Prosecutors say Daniels was responsible for distributing over 50 kilograms valued at more than $1 million.

PHOENIX – Rapper DMX has been arrested at a Phoenix mall on a felony charge of taking the identity of another.Phoenix police Sgt. Andy Hill did not have details of the charge, as it stemmed from a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office case.

The sheriff’s office did not immediately return a request for comment.

Hill says DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was being taken Saturday for booking into the Maricopa County jail.

The musician/actor has had a recent string of run-ins with the law, including an arrest at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport earlier this month on outstanding warrants after he failed to appear in court.

The week before, he was arrested in Miami on charges of attempting to purchase cocaine and marijuana.

In a global survey by the World Health Organization, which studied alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, and cocaine use in 17 countries, involving 54,000 people, it was found that 16% of the people from the United States had used cocaine in their lifetime, much higher than the next highest rate 4.3% in New Zealand.

About 42% of the people had tried cannabis in the United States, compared to 41% in New Zealand. Americans were also the most likely to have smoked with 74% saying that they used tobacco some time in their lives. Lebanon came second with 67% having smoked.

Alcohol was found to be the most common substance used and its use by the age of 15 years was more common in European countries than in the Middle East and Africa.

“Cocaine is one hellva drug”- Rick James

A British woman who allegedly hid cocaine under her wig has been arrested on suspicion of drug smuggling in Norway.

An airport customs officer noticed the 32-year-old had ‘a lot of hair’.

Closer examination revealed a one kilogram (2.2lb) bag of cocaine glued to her head under a hairpiece.

The Verdens Gang newspaper said the drug was glued so firmly to the woman’s real hair that police had to take her to hospital to have it removed.

A spokesman for Norway’s customs service said: ‘During a conversation with the woman, a customs official noticed she had a lot of hair and thought she was wearing a wig.

‘The woman and the drugs were later handed to police.’

The unnamed woman was stopped at Vaernes airport, near Trondheim, after flying in from Copenhagen on Sunday evening.

A court has remanded her until July 15.

Experts estimate 25 to 40 semi-subs left South America last year laden with cocaine, and they expect that figure to double in 2008.

“CSI” star Gary Dourdan (born Gary Robert Durdin) was arrested in Palm Springs, Calif. early Monday on suspicion of possessing heroin, cocaine, ecstasy and prescription drugs, according to a statement from the Palm Springs Police Department. Dourdan was sleeping in a car parked on the wrong side of the street when police found him. After booking, he was released on $5,000 bail.

ATL Rapper “Baby D” Bagged on Fed Drug Charges

Allhiphop is reporting that ATL rapper Baby D just got arrested on federal drug charges. I read reports not too long ago that he was poised to release an album on some label in the near future (read the AHH article for info).

Federal drug agents say candy-flavored cocaine is a new and troubling development and are hoping to keep it from spreading to the rest of the country after its recent emergence in California.

Cocaine cut with an added flavoring is less potent, but the 1½ pounds seized last month were a full-strength powder into which strawberry, coconut, lemon and cinnamon flavoring had been chemically synthesized.

“Attempting to lure new, younger customers to a dangerous drug by adding candy flavors is an unconscionable marketing technique,” Taylor said. He said it was vital that law enforcement authorities work together quickly to shut down operations that could spread the new drug to other parts of the country.

PLIES HIT WITH $10 MILLION LAWSUIT

An incident from 2006 is coming back to haunt Florida based artist Plies in the form of a $10 million lawsuit. The plaintiffs, totaling five in number, are alleging that Plies, his record label Slip-N-Slide Records, 283 West, a Gainesville club and others are all responsible for a shooting that took place at a Plies show. They claim that members of Plies entourage started firing pistols into the crowd after Plies microphone was cut off so Lil Boosie can take the stage. The following events took place in regards to the incident:

Two members of Plies’ entourage – his brother Ronell Lavatte, 31 at the time, and then 21-year-old Tory Carnegie – were accused of firing at least three rounds and charged with attempted murder. Upon completing a search of their vehicle, police found five loaded firearms and additional rounds of ammunition. Plies and another member of his entourage, Keon Mc. Rae, were then charged with illegal possession of a concealed weapon. Plies later pled no contest to the charge.
