Hardly a surprise, but Sony got on stage today at GamesCom and confirmed what we’ve all known deep down in our hearts: the new, slimmer PS3 is really real. It’ll be out in the first week of September, and will retail for $300 (or 300 Euro, or 29,980 Yen). It’s smaller and lighter, has a 120GB HDD, and packs “all the same features” of the regular PS3 while consuming 34 percent less power and taking up 32 percent less space. Existing PS3 SKUs have their prices dropped a hundie apiece tomorrow in anticipation, so be sure to grab a space heater while you’ve still got a shot — though we’re not sure why you’d pay $300 for an 80GB PS3 when you can wait a couple weeks and get 120GB in a cuter package. A couple pics of the unveil are after the break.

Keep moving to survive the unending Zombie horde in “Shi No Numa” (zombie swamp), the all new DLC addition to the multiplayer co-op fan favorite made famous with the Nazi Zombies killing already in the game. This time in Map Pack 2, the Imperial Zombies rise from the misty swamps and flaming Hell Hounds blaze through the jungle as players struggle to find Perk machines and the deadly new Wunderwaffe DG-2 to stay alive. This new map includes 10 new Achievements/Trophies

This looks very cool. I will find some more concrete info about this in a few.
Live images have leaked of Sony‘s PSP Go, set to launch at next week’s E3. Looks like those rumors were true: It’s a UMD-less slider with 16GB of memory, and it’ll ship this fall. No price yet, but that should come with the official announcement next week. Update with video:
All this leakage stems from the June issue of Qore, which is a bit of a slip-up on Sony’s part. The Go looks to keep the single analog joystick, though the overall design is quite a bit more playful and, well, circular than previous iterations of the PSP. Notice we didn’t say “attractive”: the circle section that houses the start and select buttons especially has kind of a late-90s feel to it, but we’ll have to see how it looks in the hand. It should be packing Bluetooth and a memory card slot (probably MemoryStick, grah) in addition to the 16GB of internal memory.

Check out these wiimotes that have been pimped by fanboys and given features that surely take wireless gaming to another level. I wonder which of these will make it into mass production. The guys over at NINTENDOWIIFANBOY did a great job with this post and have two more wii models here..
Who can forget the Power Glove? Not us, and certainly not the Japanese hacker responsible for this functioning Power Glove/Wiimote hybrid.
This mod allows an individual to play Wii with only one hand. Created by Ryan Culy for a friend with a majority of his left arm missing, this mod is one of the feel good stories of this year.

Watch the countdown to the most anticipated game in history, Grand Theft Auto IV.
Source: Variety
Grand Theft Auto IV is gearing up to smash sales of video games and to possibly make a dent in the movie box office. The game due to be released April 29 has been the buzz of blogs and websites for months and its release could possible effect movies and dvd releases the same week.
When “Grand Theft Auto IV” launches April 29, it’s expected to gross a record-breaking $400 million worldwide in its first week. That’s good news for the game biz, but daunting for execs in other sectors of the media industry.
“Videogames are a major source of competition for the disposable income of young males,” says Warner homevideo topper Ron Sanders, “and we avoid releasing big titles on (major videogame release) dates that appeal to young men unless there’s a specific demographic reason.”

CSI creator Anthony Zuiker is expanding the hugely popular CSI franchise to the web, mobile, and gaming platforms. This is an effort to engage viewers who have left en masse regular television for the web. I predict a CSI video game to be a top seller and for the franchise to spawn a movie.
The creator of the “CSI” franchise suggested a model, what he calls Cross Blending Storytelling, during a panel session Monday at the annual convention of the National Assn. of Broadcasters.
Zuiker said that viewing behavior has shifted. “I lost 8 million viewers on our premiere last season. Where are they? They’re on the Web,” he said. “People are consuming more and more content on the Web. … The broadcast model in terms of advertising is a little bit broken.”
Cross Blending Storytelling, he said, involves “launching a narrative from television to the Web to mobile to gaming and back to television

After MTV News broke the news on Microsoft designing a Nintendo Wii-like Wiimote for the Xbox 360, 8bitjoystick felt it was time to give up their secrets as well. Not only do they confirm that the project exists, but they can give up the codename for it: Newton. Jesus was kind enough to mock up a version of the controller based on MTV’s sketch.
The 360 remote will also receive signal from an LED sensor bar (like the Wii), but one-ups the Wiimote by having a microphone on board for Xbox Live chat.
As details develop we will keep you posted.

From master builder Ben Heck:
Ben builds his new game systems by taking apart old video game consoles such as the Atari 2600, or the NES and cutting up the internal printed circuit board (PCB) until it can fit in his hand. He then designs a custom case, which is cut on a CNC machine, to enclose the now-handheld device. His creations have been featured in such publications as Wired, Popular Science, and Maxim, and on G4tv shows such as The Screen Savers, Attack of the Show, and X-Play. They are also commonly presented on high popularity Blogs such as engadget.

Microsoft and Viacom jumped in bed for a five year co-venture valued at $500 million. In the agreement between the web behemoth and the media conglomerate, Microsoft partnered to access Viacom’s catalog of content shown across its vast network that includes BET, MTV, Comedy Central and Paramount Pictures. The content will be shown on Microsoft’s MSN website and incorporated into its XBox internet platform, with Viacom and Microsoft sharing revenue for ads shown across all of their platforms. Ad revenue will be tracked by AdManager, a recent Microsoft acquisition. For the full story, click HERE
In addition, MTV is partnering with Jerry Bruckheimer to develop original programming for its video game division. Viacom recently infused $500 million into this division. Bruckheimer will be bringing his big-budget Hollywood expertise to the gaming world, a first for him. Known for his exploding cars and special effects, MTV is depending on the producer to produce original content which can then be transformed into movie(s) or TV shows, depending on the game’s success.
