Hypebeast TV: Can you tell Legit Sneakers from Fakes?

Only true sneakerheads will notice the subtle differences.

For many years, the sneaker market has been awash with replicas, or more commonly referred to as “fakes.” It has been increasingly difficult to distinguish what is real and what is not to even the most discerning eye with how good replicas have come to be. The last decade gave us some of the most highly-anticipated sneaker releases, with people of all ages queuing up day and night for a chance to purchase their desired item of footwear. This also led to an influx of unofficial productions of sneakers to cater for the market that is there for them. While the quality of these replicas has greatly increased and granted there are those who do not mind the differences, being able to tell what is authentic is one of the hardest skills a sneakerhead must learn. Some experts from the industry have taken it upon themselves to try their hand at determining an authentic pair of sneakers. Without further ado, we present the HBTV sneakers legit check.

The kicks boast the same nubuck uppers as the originals, sporting a new navy colorway with hints of orange amongst white detailing. As nostalgic as ever, this new release has made its way into a selection of Nike stockists for Fall 2010, including the Finishline online store. Retail is set at $160 USD.

Back in 1946, the Newark Eagles were at the top of Negro League Baseball with their World Series victory over the Kansas City Monarchs in a historic 7 game series. Although the team would only be around for another two years, they surely did make history having produced the first African-American player in the American League side of Major League Baseball, Larry Doby.

62 years after their championship win, Nike is honoring the Newark Eagles in another pack of Negro League inspired sneakers. This version of the Air Max Light features the Eagle’s logo on both the heel and insole as well as traditional Newark colors with embossed leather and gradient panels. These shoes are now available at Size?.
