Jerry is not happy about the movie and in all his subsequent interviews after its release he has stated as such. I am posting a recent interview where he claims that Eazy-E was never jumped by Suge Knight.

Jerry Heller is suing everyone connected with “Straight Outta Compton,” alleging the movie defamed him … and he wants $110 MILLION minimum.

Heller has just filed suit against Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, the Estate of Eazy-E, NBC Universal and others, claiming the portrayal of him in the movie was false and damaging. Continue reading

[video] Suge Knight Was Driver In Fatal Hit-And-Run

Suge Knight has the award locked up for most drama-filled existence in the history of mankind and who can live to talk about it. More below from TMZ

Sources tell TMZ Suge’s lawyer is arranging for his client’s surrender to the Sheriff’s Dept. It is unclear if law enforcement will arrest Suge for hit and run or manslaughter. It’s possible the cops could conclude Suge is not legally on the hook because he fled out of fear for his life.

Ice Cube x Janky Promoters. Cube’s next urban comedy Janky Promoters has officially been pulled off the Weinstein Company film release schedule. Movie also stars Mike Epps and Young Jeezy and is about a concert promoter who gets in over his head when Jeezy comes to town. I hear it is still planned for a 2009 release…as usual, we will keep you updated.

Iconic rap group N.W.A. (N*ggaz With Attitude) are reportedly headed to the big screen with a film called Straight Outta Compton.

The film will offer fans an in-depth look into the careers of each member.

New Line is developing Straight Outta Compton, an urban drama about N.W.A. The project will chronicle the rise and fall of the rap quartet, founded by Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and MC Ren, whose songs were so incendiary (i.e. “F— tha Police”) they were banned from radio playlists but still sold millions of albums. The film’s producers, which include Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Tomica Wright (Eazy-E’s widow), and Circle of Confusion entertainment, are now actively searching for a director along the lines of Curtis Hanson (8 Mile). (Entertainment Weekly)

Hip-Hop pioneers Run-DMC are also slated to hit the big screen in the near future.

Notorious screenwriter Cheo Hodari Coker will adapt Bill Adler‘s “Tougher Than Leather: The Rise of Run-DMC — The Authorized Biography” for DJ Classicz president Dallas Jackson. The filmmakers will explore the history of hip-hop’s first superstars: Joseph “Run” Simmons, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell, who was shot to death in his Queens studio in 2002. (Reuters)

The latest rap biopic to hit theaters was last January’s Notorious, based on the uprising of late rapper Biggie Smalls.

Notorious, a biopic of slain rap artist Christopher Wallace grossed an estimated $21.5 million from 1,638 theaters to post the best per-location average, $13,126, of the weekend. The film was distributed by Fox but produced and marketed by Fox Searchlight. Opening is the biggest ever for the specialty unit. (Variety) Continue reading

According to ESPN The Magazine, Ice Cube and his CubeVision production company is partnering with LeBron James to produce a TV show based on James’ high school life as a teen aged basketball celebrity. The currently untitled show is described as “Friday Night Lights-meets-Entourage,” and will follow an inner-city 15 year-old prep star who is transplanted to a small town school and forced to come of age while dealing with media pressure, shady agents and the jealousy of his friends.

“It’s a grounded character study of teenage life in small town America, but it’s also an exploration of the American Dream and the wish-fulfillment aspect of what his life has become,” said Matt Alvarez, President of CubeVision, who pitched the concept and is also an executive producer on the show.”

Ice Cube has been busy ramping up TV and movie production under CubeVision including a sitcom based on police life for NBC and his upcoming comedy Janky Promoters co-starring Mike Epps and featuring Young Jeezy

Ice Cube will be returning to television to help pen an upcoming police comedy series for NBC.According to Variety, the rapper-turned-mega actor will both write and executive produce an untitled show aiming to offer the major network something different to help compete with TV ratings.

“As we continue to expand our roster of diverse talent both on-camera and behind the camera, a guy like Ice Cube, whose multi-talented, is someone we really wanted to be in business with,” NBC entertainment chairman Ben Silverman told Variety. “He’s had an amazing career, to have gone from NWA to this.”

more about “ Number One With a Bullet Trailer“, posted with vodpod

Many of today’s biggest rap stars have something in common besides successful careers: they’ve all been shot and have lived to rap about it. Their tales of gunplay, their reactions to the violence, and their changed attitudes after having survived near-death experiences are varied and always compelling.

NUMBER ONE WITH A BULLET takes the viewer deep into the psyche of these incredibly talented artists, who share a common thread: the permanent physical scars from the bullets that almost took them out and the corresponding emotional scars that affect them in profound and personal ways.

Tyrese To Play B.A. Baracus In A-Team?

Tyrese as B.A. Baracus

via Wooohah

In a recent interview, Tyrese revealed that he is in talks with director John Singleton to play the role of B.A. Baracus in the upcoming The A-Team movie. This comes as a surprise since Ice Cube was rumored to be the leading candidate for months. However, Tyrese states that B.A. is “going to be a little different. We might keep the Mohawk, but we’re not going into no forty thousand chains. We’re going to 2009 Mr. BA.” The plot is also set in present day which leads me to believe this movie will be very loosely based on The A-Team TV show using only the show name and character names and little background from the actual show. Think Miami Vice the movie on this one.

What you think? Tyrese as B.A. or Ice Cube?

Social Networking Is The Wave Of The Future…Take Note

social-networks.jpg

Reuters ran a thorough expose on the social networking phenom, citing the inclusion of superstars like 50 Cent who have created their own networks via Ning. Even though artists maintain healthy followings via Myspace and Facebook, they don’t have access to the most vital aspect of their following, the fans email. With sensitive data like email and demographics, a social networking site can then be monetized by commercializing access to advertisers.

Identified as “next-generation” fan and web sites, social networks are becoming hubs where artists can not only have an intimate connection with their fanbase but they can also directly market to them, effectively excluding the middleman. Now portals such as Facebook and Myspace are looked at as “funnels” which help strengthen the membership on personalized social networks, like the Ning supported Thisis50.
Gina Bianchini, CEO of Ning summed it up best when she said, “They take and use services where they don’t know the users, don’t have access and don’t have full control, and funnel those fans to something they do control.”

Ludacris, the Pussycat Dolls and Ice Cube are cited as artist that have jumped on the bandwagon early and cemented their spots in the blossoming social network field. Ice Cube’s venture, UVNTV is a slightly different service, that allows its members to host their own TV channel. That service, which includes Snoop and Cube amongst its content providers, will be up and running by January 2009. (Shout out to the homies @ RealTalkNY who originally posted this story)

Hip hop icon, entertainment mogul Ice Cube and legendary DJ Pooh announced today the launch of the world’s first real-time streaming television network online, UVNTV.com (U View Network Television).  UVNTV revolutionizes television with delivery via the Internet utilizing Microsoft Corps’s groundbreaking Silverlight 1.0 platform, a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering richer user experiences on the Web. Through UVNTV’s patent pending database, UVNTV rivals cable and satellite television. Beyond real-time transmission (the first on the net) UVNTV’s channels are capable of full screen DVD quality resolution, Dolby surround sound and comes complete with a channel guide with video window.

“We didn’t just want to be providers of a product. We wanted to be a full-blown network. I think we’re going to have programming that’s way more interesting than what you can see on your daily television or even YouTube” according to Ice Cube.
