[video] Nas – Obey Your Thirst (Episode 2)

Nas shared his story with The FADER x Sprite. “Growing up in Queensbridge, hip-hop was the most amazing thing I’d ever heard,” says Nas in the Obey Your Thirst documentary, made by The FADER and Sprite. “There was nothing more important to me than having a voice. I wanted to make a big impact on this art form. I wanted to open up a doorway for another generation.”

Considering that these are words coming from one of the most revered rappers of all time, behind one of the most beloved albums of all time in 1994’s Illmatic, it’s safe to say that Nas has succeeded in making his dreams a reality. But how did he make it all happen? In the video, Nas gives up-and-comers some advice, insisting on following your vision regardless of what other people say: “Why do something that’s not you? Trust in yourself and always push the envelope.”

LOS ANGELES — A judge has ordered Nas to pay Kelis nearly $44,000 in monthly support for the near future, a day after the “Milkshake” singer gave birth to the divorcing couple’s baby boy.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Louis Meisinger issued the order at a Thursday hearing. Neither Nas, whose full name is Nasir Jones, nor Kelis, whose full name is Kelis Rogers, attended Thursday’s hearing.

Rogers gave birth to the boy, named Knight, at a New York hospital Wednesday. The 29-year-old filed for divorce from the rapper in April. The couple was married in July 2003.

Kelis Accuses Nas of Abandoning Her During Pregnancy

Not a good look for GOD SON but there are multiple sides to every story. Hopefully this situation can take an 180 on the strength of the unborn baby.

Just weeks after news of their divorce broke, Kelis has accused her estranged husband Nas of abandoning her during her pregnancy. Kelis is carrying the couple’s first child together and is reportedly due to give birth next month.

MTV News has obtained court papers filed by Kelis against Nas that detail her accusations.281x211

In the motion, filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Kelis is seeking child support, spousal support, and attorney fees and costs from Nas.

Overall, the singer’s requests total a number of one-time payments upwards of $30,000 for birthing costs, a nurse, baby items for multiple homes, and more.

According to the documents, Kelis is due to give birth to the couple’s first child on July 21. (Nas has a daughter, Destiny Jones, 15, from a previous relationship.)

Kelis is also seeing spousal support retroactive to April 30 when the couple split, according to the filing. Requests for child support, beginning when Kelis gives birth, and for Nas to maintain her medical insurance were also made.

In the papers, Kelis, a recording artist with a number of hits including “Milkshake” and “Caught Out There,” maintains that she is dependent on Nas’ financial will. The singer said she took a hiatus from her musical career in 2008 to attend culinary school. The monies she received in that year were royalty payments, but have since been spent on monthly bills. VIBE EXCLUSIVE: Nas and Kelis’ Divorce Confirmed

One of hip hop’s most talked about married couples have split. VIBE has confirmed that Nas and Kelis are headed for a divorce. “I can confirm that she has filed for divorce,” a spokesperson for Kelis told VIBE. “We request the media to respect her privacy during this very difficult time.” At around 3:45pm PST, high-powered attorney Laura Wasser (who has also represented Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie, and Stevie Wonder) filed a divorce petition today on behalf of Kelis, citing irreconciable differences. The bombshell comes amid recent reports that the acclaimed rhymer and influential R&B vixen were expecting their first child together—a son. Kelis is currently seven months pregnant.

It was only last February when Nas spoke excitedly to MTV about the prospect of having a baby with Kelis. “Yeah, man, I find out what it’s gonna be next week, so I’m happy,” said the multiplatinum rapper, who also has a 15-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

Nas and Kelis first met in 2002 at a MTV Video Music Awards afterparty thrown by hip hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. “I wasn’t going to go, but I’m glad I did,” Nas told VIBE in June 2003. “Then at the afterparty, I met my girl.” Kelis remembered the meeting with her future husband vividly: “Everyone moves out of the way, and Nas stands up, and I put my hand out, and I’m like, Hey, I’m Kelis. And he goes, ‘Who?’… So I’m crawling into a fucking hole, and he’s like, ‘Wait-huh? What’s your name? And I’m like, Kelis, and he’s like, ‘Oh, well that’s great, because I’ve been waiting to make you my wife all these years.’” When Nas told her of his bold marital plans, she replied in typical Kelis form. “That’s great, because that’s all I wanna be.” Continue reading

Singer Kelis is ‘Not Guilty’ in Cop Flap

via TMZ

Kelis is not foaming at the mouth, “Milkshake” or no.

A jury just decided so yesterday, acquitting her of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence charges. Kelis had been accused of disrupting a police op by lunging at officers and yelling racial slurs at them. Cops had claimed they were talking to a group of boys in a yard, including Kelis’ hubby Nas, when she went after them all crazazy-like.

“I hope that this sheds light on the fact that wearing a uniform and carrying a badge does not allow you to act above the law,” she said in a statement.
