Hypebeast TV: Can you tell Legit Sneakers from Fakes?

Only true sneakerheads will notice the subtle differences.

For many years, the sneaker market has been awash with replicas, or more commonly referred to as “fakes.” It has been increasingly difficult to distinguish what is real and what is not to even the most discerning eye with how good replicas have come to be. The last decade gave us some of the most highly-anticipated sneaker releases, with people of all ages queuing up day and night for a chance to purchase their desired item of footwear. This also led to an influx of unofficial productions of sneakers to cater for the market that is there for them. While the quality of these replicas has greatly increased and granted there are those who do not mind the differences, being able to tell what is authentic is one of the hardest skills a sneakerhead must learn. Some experts from the industry have taken it upon themselves to try their hand at determining an authentic pair of sneakers. Without further ado, we present the HBTV sneakers legit check.

Nike works up a new colorway in its beloved classic, the Air More Uptempo, recognized as the unofficial sneaker of Scottie Pippen in the mid 90s. The kicks boast the same nubuck uppers as the originals, sporting a new navy colorway with hints of orange amongst white detailing. As nostalgic as ever, this new release has made its way into a selection of Nike stockists for Fall 2010, including the Finishline online store. Retail is set at $160 USD.

Dope Kicks: New Balance M996 x atmos x Secret Base

These are very dope.

via Hype Beast
Arguably one of their finest collaborations to date, Japanese retailer atmos teams up with Secret Base on a new pair of New Balance M996′s. Taking on a black and gold colorway, the shoes are finished beautifully with a tiger stripe motif on the uppers, inspired by the tiger of the sexagenary cycle of this year. The tiger theme is also taken to the insoles, creating an intricate, tattoo style design by Chris Trevino, which celebrates Japanese culture. Look for a release come mid-November 2010.

AThe Air Jordan 2010 was officially introduced to the world in Miami yesterday by Michael Jordan and Dwyane Wade, and Streetlevel was there to get these exclusive shots. The initial thought behind the shoe was “you only see what we want you to see,” which led to the clear TPU panels on the sides. There’s lots more to come, but for now just check out all the images. (They took us all out on Biscayne Bay on the yacht before the shoe intro, and — once we saw the shoe — all of a sudden the portholes made a lot of sense.) Look for the Air Jordan 2010 to drop in February for $170.

Keeping many of the originals iconic elements intact, the shoes include a visible Air unit through the midsole as well. Available now at select Air Jordan dealers including Millennium Shoes.

These joints are definetly a must have!!!

“How many kids know of the Pigeon Dunk but have never actually seen them with their own two eyes?…”

The almost mythical pigeon derived from the minds over at Staple Design is set for a comeback, three years after its Nike SB Dunk Low’s release sparked wide-spread chaos and panic amidst the streets of New York. This time around, jeffstaple and crew look to New Balance’s trail runner the 575 as the cornerstone of their latest sneaker inspiration. In an in-depth interview with Sneaker Freaker, some pressing issues are featured including what reactions are expected out of the Nike camp as well as jeffstaple’s reasoning behind reliving some a historic shoe which he mentions changed the face of the sneaker world. For the shoe itself, the color placement is actually quite similar to the original SB Dunk including the what reactions are expected out of the Nike camp as well as jeffstaple’s reasoning behind reliving some a historic shoe which he mentions changed the face of the sneaker world. For the shoe itself, the color placement is actually quite similar to the original SB Dunk including the pigeon-foot orange seen on the lining and sole. Also seen is a new embroidery on the heel featuring a flying pigeon to go alongside the original standing pigeon. Following up on Staple Design’s recent involvement with Lomo, a Pigeon-colored Lomo camera will also release. Singapore has already announced an August 6th release at Leftfoot Singapore and Le Vault.

While hybrids designs incorporating the physical characteristics of popular sneakers has taken some time to become respected practice amongst sneaker brands, Nike has taken another slightly off beat approach. They’ve looked to a much heralded running line which never mind the performance aspect has yielded some of the most aesthetically pleasing colorways throughout the sneaker world.
