Kid Cudi kicked off Lady Gaga Tour (punching a fan didn’t help)

This guy actually punching somebody is so out of character.

Now I am not making excuses for any asshole fan throwing stuff on stage, but Kudi should have alerted security and had the piss head removed.

Why risk your career? Obviously Gaga’s people did not like the PR nightmare and decided to give him the boot. Here is the video and the TMZ breakdown:

via TMZ

Kid Cudi — the guy who sings that “Day ‘N Nite” song — has been officially dropped from the Lady Gaga tour in the wake of a brutal fan-punching incident.

Sources at Interscope Records confirm the rapper is “no longer” with the tour — but wouldn’t say if the decision had anything to do with YouTube footage showing Cudi punching fans in the front row of a concert in Vancouver this past weekend.

We’re told Jason Derulo — the guy who sings “Whatcha Say” — will move up from his spot as Gaga’s opening act to fill Cudi’s spot … no word on who will fill-in Derulo’s.

No comment from Lady Gaga’s camp.

Andre 3000 Doesn’t Care About Hipsters

Kid Cudi has taken to his blog to lament (in all caps, of course) that Lilly Allen and Andre 3000 turned down his request for a collaboration, among other things.

Says Cudi:

I ONLY HAVE 3 FEATURES FOR MY ALBUM WHICH IS MY BIG HOMIE SNOOP, KANYE AND COMMON. THE OTHER 2 ARTISTS I ASKED SO FAR TO BE ON MY ALBUM: LILY ALLEN AND ANDRE 3000, HAVE DECLINED MY REQUEST FOR A COLLAB. IT MADE ME REALIZE THO, DO I REALLY WANNA GO IN ON FEATURES? SURE I LIKE THESE ARTISTS BUT THIS FIRST ALBUM NEEDS TO BE ABOUT WUT I CAN DO.

Maybe 3 Stacks just can’t relate to hipster types who wear pink shirts and sing about aliens.

Kid Cudi, the rapper behind the hit song “Day N Nite” has finally found a label to call home. On April 15, it was announced that the Ohio-born rapper will be joining Universal Motown.

Kid Cudi is at the vanguard of a game-changing new generation of artists,Universal Motown President Sylvia Rhone explained in a statement. “He crosses musical boundaries with an appeal that goes beyond genre, format, race, language, and culture. Cudi lives easily in the Hip Hop, Indie Rock, Pop, and R&B worlds – a diversity that shows in his innovative music and his all-embracing persona. He is a born storyteller who brings a positive, life-affirming message to his brilliant lyrical flow and compelling music. There are no clichés in what Cudi does. He is a breath of fresh air – a dynamic and important new voice, not only in the next phase of Hip Hop, but as a groundbreaking trendsetter who represents the future. I am thrilled to welcome Kid Cudi into the Universal Motown family.

Without the assistance of any major label, Kid Cudi has managed to begin a successful career. His song “Day N Nite” has managed to stay on the Billboard charts for an impressive 96 weeks, peaking at the number seven spot on the Pop 100 chart. The song is also a Top 5 download on iTunes.

Currently, Kid Cudi is working on wrapping up his debut album Man on the Moon: The Guardian. The album is expected to be released later summer 2009. Continue reading

After a shocking announcement of retirement, Kanye West protégé Kid Cudi has retracted his statement, saying he will not leave the rap game.

The announcement came yesterday during Cudi’s set at the South By Southwest music festival.

“You remember when Spiderman didn’t want to be Spiderman no more? Cause his personal life was so f***** up, but he was just, like, killing s*** as Spiderman…?” Cudi asked the crowd.

“I understand that I need y’all and y’all need me,” he added. “So I can’t stop.”

The statement was met with applause from the crowd.

Earlier this week, DX reported that Cudi announced he would hang up the mic to focus on his acting career [click to read].

Kid Cudi Ponders Retirement Before Debut

via HipHopDX

Just two weeks after Kid Cudi signed a deal with Universal Motown to release his debut album in conjunction with G.O.O.D. Music, Man On The Moon: The Guardians, he has now announced his retirement from the rap game. His reasoning? There’s just too much drama in the music industry.

AFTER THE RELEASE OF MY FIRST LP THIS SUMMER, IAM NOT MAKING ANY MORE SOLO ALBUMS,” Cudi said in his blog. “IAM FALLIN BACK ON BEING A ARTIST. THE DRAMA THAT COMES WITH IT IS MORE OVERWHELMING THAN THE SHIT I WAS DEALING WIT WHEN I WAS PISS POOR BROKE. MY FRIENDS GET MAD AT ME, SAY IVE CHANGED, ONE OF THE ONLY HOMIES I GOT IN THIS GAME, WALE, IS WORRIED ABOUT ME CUZ OF SHIT HE HEARS. LIKE WTF? WHO CAN SAY IM BEIN HOLLYWOOD?

Cudi earned critical acclaim for his mixtape A Kid Named Cudi, was also featured on Kanye West’s “Welcome to Hearbreak” [click to view], and landed a number one spot on the UK charts with his single “Day ‘n’ Night.” However, Cudi explains that he is tired of dealing with “more uncalled for problems than the average human being should have to deal with.

Kid Cudi
said that he does not look at it as quitting because he’s already accomplished his goal of pleasing fans, and earning the respect of critics. Yet, if Cudi does plan to retire, it won’t be the last that fans see of him.

IAM GOING TO FOCUS ALL MY ATTENTION ON THE HBO SHOW WHICH WE START SHOOTING IN AUGUST AND MY ACTING CAREER IN GENERAL…ILL CONTINUE TO DO SHOWS FOR THE REAL KID CUDI FANS, AND IM PLANNING A BIG CONCERT THIS SUMMER, JUS ME, AND I WILL PERFORM MY ENTIRE MIXTAPE FROM BEGINNING TO END AND NEW SONGS FROM MY ALBUM.” Continue reading
