The XXL Editors Received This Letter From Louis Vuitton Concerning The May 2009 Cover Of Rick Ross

The Biggest Boss been making some serious fashion blunders as of lately. Louie stays putting rappers on blast though, even if the threads or shades they’re rocking ain’t fugazi.  They have a dislike for the culture if it’s not packaged in the sanitary packaging of Kanye or Pharrell, so it seems. Hip Hop needs to pull a Cristal on those elitist French snobs, and Ross step you shade game up, you ‘spose to be exclusive collection.

The XXL Editors received this letter from Louis Vuitton concerning the May 2009 cover of Rick Ross.

Dear Editor:

We were dismayed to see the cover of the May 2009 issue of XXL Magazine, which features a photo of Rick Ross wearing a pair of sunglasses prominently featuring counterfeit Louis Vuitton trademarks. Because the photo has generated considerable confusion among your readers and Louis Vuitton customers among others, we feel it is important to clarify several points.

Louis Vuitton sued over gash at rap bash

via NY Daily News

A veteran rap and hip-hop manager who says he was hurt at Kanye West‘s star-studded 30th birthday bash is suing luxury clothier Louis Vuitton, which hosted the event.steve_louie

Steve Lobel, who oversees the Grammy-winning group Bone, Thugs-N-Harmony, was among the glitterati partying with West at Vuitton’s Fifth Ave. store on June 7, 2007, when a temporary panel fell off the wall onto his chrome dome, the suit charges.

Other high-profile revelers at the party included Rihanna, Sean (Puffy) Combs, Jay-Z, Usher and Mariah Carey.

Lobel is demanding unspecified damages from the company, who, he claims, used unstable wall panels to “obscure the store’s merchandise and create a club look.”

Bone Thugs earned a Grammy in 1997 for its song “Tha Crossroads.” Lobel and the band were in town the weekend of West’s shindig to shoot a video for their latest single, Lobel’s Web site says.

The suit, filed in Queens Supreme Court, also names Manhattan events promoter Tony Berger, of Relevent Group LLC.

“We were aware of the incident. We reported it to our insurance carrier, and it is being handled by them,” Berger said. Continue reading

Finally, we see an official picture of one of the sneakers from the Kanye West and Louis Vuitton collaboration. The sneaker comes in all red with a simple form, but it features a special quilted flap on the back heel for your jeans. Check out the press release below:

PARIS — Marc Jacobs and the Louis Vuitton men’s studio director Paul Helbers have some design competition this season. Kanye West, who was sitting front row at the Vuitton show, has designed a line of five LV sneakers. Only one design, above, was featured in the show — a monochromatic midtop with no frills, save for a quilted flap in the back, all the easier to tuck pants into. “The inspiration came from a jacket with a huge collar in the movie ‘Dune,’ ” West says. “Most sneakers focus on the tongue, so I wanted to do something different.” West knows whereof he speaks: he says he has no idea how many shoes he owns, but he does know that he routinely needs to send shipments off to storage. The LV-meets-Kanye kicks will be available at Louis Vuitton stores in June.

Kanye Offers to Intern with Louis Vuitton/Raf Simons

via NY Times

KANYE WEST, the infamously self-assured singer who stated to The Associated Press last month that he “will go down as the voice of this generation,” is apparently far more humble when it comes to fashion. In the hope of better understanding the design process, Mr. West has announced that he wants to take time off from his music career and intern at a fashion house. Preferably, Louis Vuitton or Raf Simons.

“I was blown away from the planet when he told me,” said Mr. Simons, by phone from Antwerp, Belgium. “I know he’s very serious about this — I don’t take it as a joke — but how can I imagine him being my intern? It’s a very extreme situation.”

Certainly, no one could criticize Mr. West for taking fashion lightly. For years, he has been a front row fixture at many of the major shows and a first-rate fashion editor for his blog (, where he often spotlights new brands (“Another shout out to the kids from the lines Public School and Sandinista, my personal 2 favorites this month, you got busy!”) and products well before many of the top magazines. Mikhail Gorbachev Advertises Louis Vuitton Bags to Make His Living

via Fun Report

So many fashion ads feature celebrities now that it isn’t even faintly jarring to flip through the August issue of Vogue and see Scarlett Johansson lying on her belly with a Louis Vuitton bag over her shoulder and 10 pages later find her flat on her back, her cascading blond hair spread to promote L’Oreal Superior Preference shade No. 10NB.

That said, what is a reader to make of a Vuitton ad, coming in the big September books, that stars Mikhail S. Gorbachev, the last president of the Soviet Union? A decade ago, Mr. Gorbachev’s appearance in a Pizza Hut commercial was generally greeted as a low point in his career.

The Vuitton ad, however, is part of a campaign to emphasize the company’s heritage in luggage and travel accessories. Photographed by Annie Leibovitz, the ads include other celebrities using Vuitton bags: Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf cuddling in a hotel room, their bags not yet unpacked; Catherine Deneuve resting on a trunk in front of a steaming locomotive; and Mr. Gorbachev in the back of a car with a duffel bag on the seat next to him. Of the group, Mr. Gorbachev appears the least comfortable. He is holding on to a door handle, as if the bag contained polonium 210. Continue reading

What is so ironic is that all of these companies have borrowed from the culture but don’t want to return the favor. Dapper Dan lost.

Attention, blinged-out, brand-obsessed pop stars: Read the law before going gaudy.

Louis Vuitton won an undisclosed out-of-court settlement Thursday after a five-year Paris court battle against three of MTV’s familiar faces – Britney Spears, Da Brat and “American Idol” winner Ruben Studdard.

The company sued Sony BMG Music Entertainment for allowing its artists to use the famous LV monogram in music videos and album covers.

Sony BMG also agreed “to educate its record labels” about copyright laws, she said.

A spokesman for Sony BMG, which represents Arista, Columbia and Epic records, declined to comment.

Now Spears can no longer ride in a pink Hummer, laced with a cherry LV monogram dashboard, as she did in her 2006 video “Do Somethin’.”

“We don’t make dashboards,” a Vuitton spokeswoman quipped.

And artists can’t keep up the trend popularized by Studdard – who in 2006, printed his album jacket for “The Return” CD on Louis Vuitton monogram paper.

The fight for the settlement, estimated at more than $300,000, began after Vuitton sued Sony in 2003 for allowing Da Brat to bounce around in a video with a multicolored LV print beachball.

Louis Vuitton Takes Google to Court in France over Copyright

Louie vs Google

via Upscale Swagger/NY Times

Europe’s highest court will hear a trademark infringement suit concerning Google‘s keyword advertising system, a case that ventures into an untested area of law that could impact the company’s lucrative ad revenue.

Fashion retailer Louis Vuitton won a lawsuit in France over Google’s AdWords system, where advertisers bid for keywords. The keywords are used to place ads related to a person’s search terms using Google’s search engine or in Web pages with similar content.

AdWords suggests variations of certain keywords to advertisers when they are using the company’s interface. Louis Vuitton said the search engine offers terms such as “Louis Vuitton fakes” and “Louis Vuitton replicas,” according to Pinsent Masons, which runs the legal blog.

In a quest to protect their copyright and brand, Gucci has won a case against a Chinese factory for producing goods emblazoned with the “GG” logo. One of the most popular brands in the world Gucci has fought against bootleggers for decades.
Hip hop has also had a long-time love affair with the brand with off-shoot designers such as Dapper Dan putting his own spin on the luxury brand. Story below:

Italian fashion group Gucci has won a suit against a Chinese shoe maker that counterfeited the exclusive “GG” logo in its footwear, state media said Tuesday.
Senda Group, based in Jiangsu province in eastern China, was ordered to pay Gucci 180,000 yuan (25,700 dollars) in damages, the Oriental Morning Post reported, citing a ruling by the Shanghai Pudong New Area People’s court.

Luxury Designers Debut Blinged Out Gas Masks

Fashion is a reflection of popular culture or vice versa depending on who you ask. So it should come as no surprise, with war and “global warming” on the public’s conscious, that fashion would integrate themselves with something as tragic as WAR. Iran and North Korea got you spooked out about their nuclear plans?

Never fret, now you can fear in style thanks to Gucci and Louis Vuitton. At the Luxury Show 2008 in Bucharest the designers debuted “blinged” out gas masks. The artist responsible for designing these masks shared his philosophy about the necessity of capitalizing off of FEAR. Check em him out:
