According to reports, a man made it over the White House fence today before he was taken down by a U.S.S.S. dog. Although reports say the Secret Service responded quickly, video from the incident shows the man was not immediately surrounded.
The man managed to kick one dog and repeatedly punch and wrestle another dog before Secret Service agents ultimately subdued him.

Kraft Foods Chief Executive Irene Rosenfeld, who led a hostile $18 billion takeover of Britain’s Cadbury, came in second, followed by talk show host and media mogul Oprah Winfrey, who is ending “The Oprah Winfrey Show” next year after 25 years to launch her cable network OWN.

(Newser) – A woman has been arrested in Hawaii after telling the Secret Service she planned to “blow away” Michelle Obama, officials revealed. Kristy Lee Roshia, 35, was charged with threatening a family member of the president and assaulting a federal agent after her weekend arrest within two miles of the Kailua house where the Obamas plan to vacation this week.
Roshia called the Boston office of the Secret Service last month and vowed to kill the First Lady and Marines, AP reports. Roshia has a history of leaving rambling messages and sending letters and photos of herself to the Secret Service.

Michelle Obama And Jill Biden Spend Afternoon Volunteering At DC Food Bank

WASHINGTON — First Lady Michelle Obama is making good on her promise to actively volunteer in the Washington area, bagging food for hungry children at a local food bank on her husband’s 100th day in office.
Mrs. Obama and Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, joined more than 100 congressional spouses at the Capital Area Food Bank on Wednesday, passing out packages of wheat pasta and cans of pineapple as volunteers bagged 2,000 meals for low-income kids in the area.
This is the second time the first lady has volunteered for the hungry in the District of Columbia. In March, she served lunch to the homeless at a soup kitchen.
The event was sponsored by the food bank and Feeding America, a hunger relief group.

It’s the second sistah in a row! Right after Michele Obama’s magical March cover. And only the sixth Black woman on a Vogue cover this decade. 
That stat stands in sharp contrast with the legacy of the now-defunct Men’s Vogue, which regularly had Black men such as Denzel Washington, Will Smith, President Obama (twice) and Tiger Woods on its covers.

First Lady Michelle Obama To Be Immortalized In Wax

Madame Tussauds wax museum is reportedly adding a wax figure of the new first lady, Michelle Obama, to its collection.
According to the Associated Press, the full figure is expected to be unveiled in March.
So far photos of the head of Michelle have been released. Designers have worked on the figure for the last six months, studying photos and video of the first lady.
“As our nation’s first African-American first lady, a proud working mom and budding style icon, Mrs. Obama is a role model to women around the corner and around the globe,” said Madame Tussauds General Manager Janine DiGioacchino.
Michelle’s wax counterpart was designed at Merlin Studios in London, and will be placed alongside President Barack Obama’s figure in a replica Oval Office.

Tiny wooden cabins line the dirt road once known as Slave Street as it winds through Friendfield Plantation. More than 200 slaves lived in the whitewashed shacks in the early 1800s, and some of their descendants remained for more than 100 years after the Civil War.
The last tenants abandoned the hovels about 30 years ago, and even they would have struggled to imagine a distant daughter of the plantation one day calling the White House home.
But a historical line can be drawn from these Low Country cabins to Michelle Obama, charting an American family’s improbable journey through slavery, segregation, the civil-rights movement and a historic presidential election.
Their documented passage begins with Jim Robinson, Michelle Obama’s great-great-grandfather, who was born about 1850 and lived as a slave, at least until the Civil War, on the sprawling rice plantation. Records show he remained on the estate after the war, working as a sharecropper and living in the old slave quarters with his wife, Louiser, and their children. A few weeks ago at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, I shared with the nation some of the many reasons why I believed my husband would be an extraordinary president. It was the biggest speech I’d ever given. When I was finished, I headed backstage with my daughters. They turned to me, breathless with excitement.
“Mom,” Malia, our ten-year-old, said. “We have something important to tell you. We need to have a sleepover!”
That snapped me out of speech mode, with the bright lights and applause, and back into the role I love: Mom. The next night, 15 giggling girls – my daughters, the Biden granddaughters, and friends – took over our hotel room.
Now that Barack has been elected president, it will be an honour to be First Lady. I will work daily on the issues closest to my heart: helping working women and families, particularly military families. But, as my girls reminded me in Denver, even as First Lady, my No 1 job is still to be Mom. At 7 and 10, our daughters are young. My first priority will be to ensure they stay grounded and healthy, with normal childhoods – including homework, chores, dance, and soccer. Continue reading

Michelle Obama has accepted an honorary membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha, the oldest African-American sorority in the country, the group’s president, Barbara A. McKinzie, has announced.
The sorority is celebrating its centennial with a week of celebrations in the District. It was founded at Howard University in 1908, and counts Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott King, and former Washington mayor Sharon Pratt among its members. Eleanor Roosevelt was also an honorary member of the organization, whose membership now stands at more than 200,000.
