[video] Diddy Announces Revolt TV Deal with Time Warner

Diddy aims to be bring music back to television with Revolt TV

via Billboard

The newly unveiled Time Warner partnership adds nearly 12 million current customers to Revolt’s potential viewership when the channel debuts later this year, with programs that Combs says will carry a certain “rawness” to them to complement the heavy emphasis on airing music videos.

“We will not be doing a bunch of reality shows,” says Combs, alluding to the current lack of music programming on MTV. “We’ll be doing music-driven shows that will be exposing you to the discovery and curation of new talent. We’ll also be doing in-depth interviews and shows that will go into social issues with different panels and debaters of the culture. We’ll be doing our version of a Barbara Walters/Oprah interview, but with someone from this generation, and of this generation. We’ll be going to where the pulse of music is happening, and we’ll be covering it in the way ESPN will cover a sports story, with that level of urgency and seriousness.”

[video] Has MTV gone too far with Teen Show “SKINS”, Some Execs Think So

Well it is a show about sex-crazed teens who take drugs recklessly. Maybe they have, maybe this is just marketing that worked wonders for Jersey Shore. Whatever the case this show would probably scared the sh*t out of the average parent. I have posted the trailer if you have not seen it yet:

As creators bust boundaries with a raunchy view of teen sex and substance abuse in MTV’s new program Skins, network executives are now worried they may be close to violating federal child porn laws. MTV executives have already ordered that some scenes involving underage teens be toned down, reports the New York Times. They’re particularly worried about a nude scene of actor Jesse Carere, who plays Chris, running down a street in an episode airing at the end of the month. The joke of the episode is that Chris has an erection that apparently won’t quit, thanks to pills to overcome erectile dysfunction.

[video] Al Roker questions The Situation on his book : A Guide to Creeping on Chicks, Avoiding Grenades, and Getting in Your GTL on the Jersey Shore.”

I don’t think Al was such a big fan of The Situation and their chemistry was just a bit off. Especially when he asks him if he would allow his daughter to date someone just like himself. It made for great early morning tension on TV though. Vodpod videos no longer available.

No one understands the art of avoiding grenades while simultaneously reeling in DTFs quite like Mike “The Situation,” which is why the “Jersey Shore” castie was asked to write a book about it.

Young people speak up about Sexting & CyberBullying on MTV’s “Over the Line”

MTV’s “A Thin Line” Campaign encourages young people to understand the difference between digital use and digital abuse.

With articles regarding sexting, constant messages, spying, digital disrespect and cruelty; I must say this is an excellent website!  I believe that the best way to overcome an issue is to understand that you are not alone and the “Over the Line” section of A Thin Line allows young people to address difficult personal issues without ridicule.

Users can make anonymous posts or create a profile to share their experiences and have peers rate whether their situation is “Over the Line.” I’ve been reading the posts and I have been compelled to comment.    Check it out!

The application will include stories that range from the humorous to the dramatic and plugs into Facebook, he said.

Fifty percent of 14 to 24 year olds have been the target of some form of digital abuse and 30 percent have sent or received nude photos of other young people on their cell phones or online, according to a December study released by MTV and the Associated Press.

Twelve percent of those who have sexted have contemplated suicide, which is four times higher than those who haven’t, the study concluded.

Jersey Shore Cast Tells MTV ‘F U Pay Me’, Rejects Contract Offer for Season 2

The cast of Jersey Shore, who have been the new break out stars of this reality show TV season, are demanding big raises after monster rating for their finale broadcast earlier this week.

The show which was been heavily protested by Italian-American groups, has been the guilty pleasure of millions who can’t seem to get enough of the fist-pumping, muscle bound, hot tub shenanigans. Check out below what they have told MTV executives about how much they wanna get paid.

via Associated Content

For Jersey Shore season two, MTV offered a bonus to each of the cast members of $10,000 as well as a payment of $5,000 per episode. That is a lot of money for these cast members, but they rejected it apparently stating that they wanted every cast member (eight main ones) to get the same raise.

Check out the latest fight from my guilty pleasure of this television season Jersey Shore. In this clip self proclaimed ‘guido’ Ronnie, gets into it with a douchebag who was harassing him and Sammi at a bar. She is actually to blame for this fight cause she kept arguing with this guy and the results were a serious fight.

From my favorite guilty pleasure reality show ‘Jersey Shore’, is the gangster of the bunch the aptly named ‘J-Woww‘. This girl is not having it and is evidenced by handing out a serious beat down to a girl who called her friends ‘fat” on Ep 5.

Anyway this show is hot like fire and MTV is surely stoking the flames, because this is probably their first hit in a long time excluding the Making the Band series.

Common Wants To Curb Chicago Youth Violence

Source: MTVNews.com  Steven Roberts, with additional reporting by Jayson Rodriguez

Following death of Derrion Albert, rapper says it’s ‘our responsibility’ to teach kids to value their own lives.

In the wake of the tragic death of 16-year-old Derrion Albert, many hip-hop artists have spoken out about violence, not only among the youth of Chicago, but in other cities like Atlanta and Newark. Nas wrote an open letter to Chicago teens following the honor student’s senseless beating death, urging them that they were fighting the wrong war.

Killer Mike blogged forXXLmag.com, apologizing to Albert and the four teens charged with his murder, Silvonus Shannon, 19; Eugene Riley, 18; Eugene Bailey, 17; and Eric Carson, 16, for letting them down. David Banner also addressed the situation in his song, appropriately titled, “Something Is Wrong.”

MTV News caught up withCommon at Wednesday’s Hennessy Artistry 2009 Seriesshow in New York, and the legendary Chicago MC echoed their sentiments. “For me, I grew up around it, but I have a great mom, have a wonderful stepfather and great family around, and I know every kid is not provided that blessing which we should naturally have,” Common said.

Mark Geragos appeals to Supreme Court to delay Chris Brown hearing

This guy Gergagos has been fishing for something within the LAPD about this case, and postponing a hearing where Rihanna is scheduled to tesify.  It’s probably a last ditch effort to salvage what is left of Brown’s career. Anyway MTV has the scoop on the story:

via MTV

Picture 158 After losing a bid last week to push back the start of client Chris Brown’s assault case, attorney Mark Geragos has asked the California Supreme Court to delay the trial against the singer until it can rule on his attempt to get access to records from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Reuters reports that Geragos’ appeal to the state Supreme Court requests a delay of the preliminary hearing in the case, which is currently slated for Monday (June 22). Geragos has been trying to get access to the LAPD’s investigation into the leak of a photo of Rihanna after the alleged incident.

The judge in the case denied the request for more time last month, saying it was too early to deal with those issues, and a state appeals court also denied the same request from Geragos last week.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the state Supreme Court has not yet taken action on the appeal, which was filed on Friday, and a court spokesperson said the justices could decide to hear the case, decline it or let Monday’s preliminary hearing proceed without commenting. The paper also reported that, expecting a crush of reporters covering the high-profile trial featuring two big contemporary music stars, the L.A. County Superior Court has not yet decided whether the proceedings will be televised.

Kelis Accuses Nas of Abandoning Her During Pregnancy

Not a good look for GOD SON but there are multiple sides to every story. Hopefully this situation can take an 180 on the strength of the unborn baby.

via MTV

Just weeks after news of their divorce broke, Kelis has accused her estranged husband Nas of abandoning her during her pregnancy. Kelis is carrying the couple’s first child together and is reportedly due to give birth next month.

MTV News has obtained court papers filed by Kelis against Nas that detail her accusations.281x211

In the motion, filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Kelis is seeking child support, spousal support, and attorney fees and costs from Nas.

Overall, the singer’s requests total a number of one-time payments upwards of $30,000 for birthing costs, a nurse, baby items for multiple homes, and more.

According to the documents, Kelis is due to give birth to the couple’s first child on July 21. (Nas has a daughter, Destiny Jones, 15, from a previous relationship.)

Kelis is also seeing spousal support retroactive to April 30 when the couple split, according to the filing. Requests for child support, beginning when Kelis gives birth, and for Nas to maintain her medical insurance were also made.

In the papers, Kelis, a recording artist with a number of hits including “Milkshake” and “Caught Out There,” maintains that she is dependent on Nas’ financial will. The singer said she took a hiatus from her musical career in 2008 to attend culinary school. The monies she received in that year were royalty payments, but have since been spent on monthly bills. T.I. Credited Time for House Arrest, might only do 2 Months in Club Fed

via AP

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Rapper T.I. will be coming to Arkansas — to serve a federal prison sentence.

T.I., whose real name is Clifford J. Harris Jr., must report to Forrest City’s low-security federal prison by noon on May 26, according to court filings. There, Harris will join 1,500 other inmates as he serves a year-and-one-day prison sentence after pleading guilty in March to federal weapons charges in Atlanta.

The rapper, the self-proclaimed “King of the South,” had faced a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each charge in his three-count indictment.

Harris will be credited for 305 days of home detention he already has served after being charged, so his stay at the Forrest City prison likely will be only two months.

R.D. Weeks, a spokesman for the prison, said Harris likely would be treated like any other prisoner coming into the facility.

“Unless there are custody or security concerns, all incoming inmates are placed in general population,” Weeks told The Associated Press. Continue reading

Just to think me and Majesty was just discussing the status of Red’s project, then unexpectantly we get the announcement that Diddy will possibly be assisting Akon on the Cafe project.  That will be a good look for Brooklyn and Bad Boy especially since the last time Diddy had someone from the Bush on the label, we got Shyne Po. Lets hope they can create the same kind of magic in the studio, and leave the B.S. at home.

“The Alexa Chung Show”: MTV Taps British Model For Show, Will Incorporate Twitter

via Huffington Post

NEW YORK — MTV has been without a show that has defined pop culture since the demise of “Total Request Live” and is betting on a 25-year-old British model who dates a rock star to help fill that void.TV-MTV's Pop Culture

“The Alexa Chung Show” will be a mix of celebrity talk, music and online interaction with viewers. The stakes are high; it’s the most important of nine new series the slumping MTV has in the works. The midday series begins June 15.

MTV‘s viewership for the first three months of 2009 is down 18 percent from the year before. The docu-soap “The Hills” is still popular, and MTV is generating modest heat with the competition “America’s Best Dance Crew,” but it has lacked the daily stop-off point for stars that “TRL” provided before its slow demise and cancellation last November.

At its height, during the ‘N Sync and Britney Spears years, “TRL” set the tone for the music business and drew huge crowds to MTV’s Times Square studio.

Chung, who has been on TV shows since she was 18 and now dates Arctic Monkeys singer Alex Turner, is a fresh face able to relate to both stars and the audience at home, network executives said.

“We just all really fell for her,” said David Sirulnick, MTV’s executive vice president for news and production.

The idea is to introduce Chung’s show at midday for young viewers home for the summer and, if it works out well, move later to an after-school time slot.

Facebook is working with MTV as a partner in the series. MTV wants to use Facebook and Twitter to reach viewers in a way that “TRL” _ which asked viewers to vote on their favorite videos _ could barely touch upon. Continue reading

Mike Tyson Wants To Be Jamie Foxx’s Next Role

Vodpod videos no longer available.

via MTV

If Mike Tyson has his way, he’ll get Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx to tackle his life story in an upcoming cinematic version of his life. The boxer has been talking the press about this plan for more than a year now, and he told MTV News that it’s still very close to happening.

And what a movie it would be if Foxx ever indeed portrays Iron Mike on the big screen. Tyson — whose life is told in all its glory and tragedy in the new documentary “Tyson” set for release this Friday (April 24) — has seen enough drama in his life to fill multiple biopics. From his years as a wunderkind boxer under the tutelage of Cus D’Amato to his rape conviction and repeated attempts at redemption, the film would be unbelievable … if it weren’t all true.

“It’s gonna be [about me],” he told MTV News about the planned collaboration. “It’s gonna be Jamie Foxx portraying me in a life story.” Continue reading

[video] Nipsey Hussles His Way onto MTV Mixtape Monday

Vodpod videos no longer available.

411: Soak up the swagger — Hussle’s in the house! Coming into contact with gunplay as a teen, Hussle earned his name by his stringent work ethic as a, er, street pharmacist. One of the homies dubbed him “Nipsey Hussle,” a play on the name of the always-rhyming comedian of yesteryear Nipsey Russell. Nip is so young, however, that he’d never seen Russell’s breakout role as the Tinman in “The Wiz” (1978). He didn’t get the joke, but he liked the name anyway. For over a year, Nip has been back and forth between Los Angeles and New York, recording his debut LP for Cinematic/Epic, South Central State of Mind.

Game and Snoop Dogg are the only guests on the record besides Hussle’s crew, the Slauson Boys.During the past several weeks, the lanky MC — who will remind you of Snoop Dogg (some fans thought Nip was Snoop’s brother or cousin, but there is no relation) — hasn’t been in one spot for long. He was opening for Game’s LAX tour.”I tell everybody that was the best sh– we could’ve did,” Nip said of going out on the road with Hurricane Game.

“Just for the fact of getting in front of that many people and Game being an artist from the West Coast with — not necessarily style, but similar content to what I’m doing. When I got out there, they was loving me like they was loving [Game’s] sh–. If you a Game fan, you’re a fan of West Coast music. You’re a fan of L.A. music, L.A. culture, L.A. lifestyle. When I went out onstage, it was preaching to the choir. It was A1. The best experience I could’ve had.”Nip promises a summer release for South Central State of Mind. For almost half a year, though, Nip’s mixtape Bullets Ain’t Got No Names Vol. II has been tearing up the streets, and true to his name, Hus has been on the grind, getting his tape from L.A. all the way out to NYC. MTV To Offer More Music With “AMTV”

via HipHopDXAMTV

Tuning into MTV these days is not what it used to be. Once considered the premier channel to get a wide range of music videos, performances, and artist information, the programming has drastically changed in order to fit the booming ratings brought by reality TV. However, with a new music program, the network is looking to put the “M” back into MTV.

Branded as “AMTV,” the six-hour segment showcases mainstream and up-and-coming artists alike, with advertisers sponsoring the musical content. “AMTV,” which started March 30, will run from 3 to 9 a.m., Monday through Thursday.

Scott Friedman, general manager of MTV, has expressed his expectations in the channel’s new morning music programming/advertising experiment, especially in their decision to bring back “Unplugged.”

“If we take ‘Unplugged,’ which our audience still knows and loves, and do a four-minute version after our highest-rated program in prime time, and then we say, ‘You can get it all immediately on MTV.com or see the full thing for the next four days in the morning,’ we’re going to have a lot more people watching,”
Friedmanrecently told the New York Times.

Similar to their move into reality TV, Friedman is hopeful that “AMTV” will provideMTV viewers with a reason to tune in early and often. “We’re trying to move as the audience moves with their consumption habits,” adding, “we know our audience wants more of it.”
