[video] Is the NFL Draft Modern Day Slavery?

With the thick of the NFL season approaching and the start of the NBA season tonight, a valid question has be posed as to whether modern day sports are comparable to the slave trade. Elite athletes are often called studs and compared to animals all the time. Popular running back Marshawn Lynch calls him self ‘beast mode’ and we all know slave masters looked at slaves as sub-human cattle. Are we reaching or is this assertion based in hard truths?

[video] PUNKS AND POETS- ALLEN IVERSON

Simply put, Allen Iverson is the uncommon thread. Over the course of a 14 year NBA career, Iverson averaged a staggering 26.7 points, 6.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game. The long-time Philadelphia 76er was voted onto 11 All-Star teams, was named NBA MVP in 2001 and is a surefire hall of famer. As impactful as his game was on the court, though, the 6-0 dynamo made an even bigger cultural dent off of it. The native of Virginia brought cornrows, tats and headbands to the NBA. He brought style, attitude and hip-hop to the league. More than that, he brought them to pop culture. In short, Iverson made it OK to be yourself, to be uncompromising, to be real. He made it OK to be uncommon.

[video] Jordan Kilganon’s The “Lost and Found” Dunk Slams the ‘Net

The NBA should have a contest whereas one dunker wins a chance to compete against the NBA’s best. It would bring some life back into the contest. With that being said never heard of this guy aptly named Jordan (Kilganon) or his previous dunks but this caught my eye and is post worthy. Oh yeah he is only 6′ 1.

[video] Larry Sanders – Why I Walked Away From the NBA: Players’ POV

Larry Sanders explains why he is no longer passionate about playing the NBA. Props to him for walking away to do what he really wants to do and the $31 million he has collected so far is a nice cushion.

via Business Insider

Sanders had three years remaining on a $44 million contract. He left around $21 million on the table in the buyout.

Sanders, age 26, has had a host of issues on and off the court since signing that contract in 2013. In a video on the Players’ Tribune, Sanders said that he got treatment for depression, anxiety, and a mood disorder at Rogers Memorial Hospital after leaving the team in December.

Kenny Smith Writes Open Letter to ‘Scumbag’ Charles Barkley #FUCKCHUCK

Screen Shot 2014-12-04 at 8.07.24 AM

Kenny who I have watched for years on TNT speaks eloquently to Charles Barkley about his idiotic and reprehensible comments on recent racial issues concerning the black community and an out of control police force. All I can say is #FUCKCHUCK

Dear Chuck,

I hope this finds you in the way I always see you, in great spirits, with great joy and full of life. There are some things I want to openly say to you that sometimes in conversation get lost.

Firstly I lied!  You ARE the greatest Power Forward of all time. It’s not (Tim) Duncan or (Karl) Malone, they had size and height that you weren’t blessed with and you never had near the talent around you that they were blessed to have. Contrarily you took your teams to similar heights. Secondly, you are a champion in my book. Effort and determination is what makes a champion, not a ring.

NBA Owner Bruce Levenson To Sell Atlanta Hawks After Racist Email Surfaces

So in the world of NBA ownership, you make racist comments about your fans, get caught, and then gain hundreds of millions of dollars from a forced sale.

Basically the Atlanta owner felt the fan base was too black and were scaring away the white fan base and he told his staff to whiten up the music, cheerleaders, and overall appearance of his product.

He has since apologized as racists once they racist ideology surfaces to the public. Mark Cuban jumped out all over this in basic support of Donald Sterling because deep down he knew this boys club of billionaire owners are a bunch of undercover racists.

Back in the day 7 Footers were one dimensional players but that mold has been broken in the last few years and the age of do-it-all big men is definitely here to stay.

via Bleacher Report

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. — You don’t have to watch Thon Maker play basketball to get at least an inkling of how special he is and what he might become.

The slender 7-foot physique. The arachnoid limbs. The gliding gait. The disarming demeanor.

[video] Donald Sterling was 100% Correct : “African Americans Get Successful and Don’t Wanna Help Their Own People”

Donald Sterling is a racist. I think that is the consensus across the board from anyone with a half a brain who heard the infamous taped conversations between him and V. Stiviano released a couple of weeks ago to TMZ. But listening to his interview with Anderson Cooper, I have come to realize that the media portrayal that he is some senile crazy rich old man, spewing age old thoughts on race, is a facade created by the mainstream media to shield that systematic racism is alive and well in 2014.

[video] Donald Sterling Proclaims “I’m Not Racist” in New Phone Conversation

Cha-ching. The new get rich scheme is to obviously get Donald Sterling on the phone and record him and sell it to tabloid websites for a fee. This time its Radar Online who gets the scoop on how Donald Sterling feels after his racist comments were blasted worldwide. When will this fool learn to shut up?

RadarOnline.com has acquired a secret audio recording that reveals Sterling’s true reaction to the scandal for the very first time.

Alternately defiant and heartbroken, Sterling bares his true nature like never before in the shocking tapes, unapologetically insisting he is “not a racist” and will not back down from his position as Clippers owner — despite the public outcry over his vile comments.

“You think I’m a racist?” Sterling angrily asks a long-time friend in the recorded phone conversation. “You think I have anything in the world but love for everybody? You don’t think that! You know I’m not a racist!”

Michael Jordan Slams Donald Sterling

Screen Shot 2014-04-28 at 11.54.28 AM

After being pretty much a nonexistent voice concerning issues in Black America, Michael Jordan finally comes out and makes a bold statement against Donald Sterling.

via USA TODAY

“I look at this from two perspectives – as a current owner and a former player. As an owner, I’m obviously disgusted that a fellow team owner could hold such sickening and offensive views. I’m confident that Adam Silver will make a full investigation and take appropriate action quickly. As a former player, I’m completely outraged. There is no room in the NBA – or anywhere else – for the kind of racism and hatred that Mr. Sterling allegedly expressed…. In a league where the majority of players are African-American, we cannot and must not tolerate discrimination at any level.”
