[video] Stephen A. Smith Speaks on DeSean Jackson Getting Dropped Over Gang Ties

Screen Shot 2014-03-29 at 1.04.06 PM

Bravo. I definitely agree with Stephen A. but Desean Jackson must also look at his actions and see how they are effecting his career on and off the field. There has been a multitude of times where he has thrown up the Rollin’ 60’s gang sign in music videos, on the field, and out partying. This is the NFL and whether we like it or not this type of behavior whether it is harmless or not, can cost you your job and millions of dollars.

Ving Rhames Talks New Film, Nipsey Hussle, Gillie Da Kid

Since his unforgettable role in 1994’s Pulp Fiction, Ving Rhames has been a powerful force in Hollywood. With numerous film appearances before and starring roles aplenty since, Rhames has been hard at work at producing some films of his own. The actor’s present work, The Wrath Of Cain, contains a message about street life in America, as well our commonalities, that are very tangible to the Hip Hop generation. Ving spoke to HipHopDX on Tuesday evening, to discuss the film, his views on youth culture, and two of its co-stars – who happen to be rappers, Gillie Da Kid [click to read] and Nipsey Hussle [click to read].

Produced by Evan Louis and Eugene “Big U” Henley, Wrath of Cain contains a premise resonant in Rhames‘ eyes. “The storyline is that I’m a guy in a prison – a former gangbanger [who is] doing life in prison, with two sons. One of my sons is a Crip, played by Nipsey Hussle. The other one is a Blood, who’s my son, but I don’t know he’s my son at the beginning of the movie, played by Gillie Da Kid.” The film takes the unbenownst brothers who war in the streets, to a war on the inside, amongst their father. “They don’t know they’re brothers; I don’t know that [Gillie‘s character “JD” is] my son.Rhames says this conflict leads to a powerful ending. “It’s gonna be very suprising,Gillie said.

The film focuses on the similarities in people, regardless of skin or bandana color. “I’m trying to show, we’re all the same – Crips, Bloods, Mexican gangs. You grew up in this hood, I grew up in that hood; a real nigga is a real nigga regardless.” He later added, “They’re of the same blood. The only difference between [someone] being a Crip or a Blood is [their] address.

The film starts June 29th in Los Angeles. With Big U as a producer on the film, Ving Rhames has worked with U‘s South Central neighborhood to enrich, what he calls “the hood’s talent.” “I have Rolling 60s guys who are going to be apprentices with the camera, who are learning about sound, lighting, directing, wardrobe, what-have-you. They’re gonna be a part of this film in an apprentice program.Rhames says after working in the Rolling 60s Crip neighborhood, he aspires to work with a Blood neighborhood next. Continue reading

It seems that rapper Jay Rock has been arrested for suspicion to being involved in a drive-by shooting. Having just toured the country along with him and Nipsey Hussle on the LAX tour last month, I hope that this is some awful mistake and that he can return to being one of the rising stars of Hip Hop. No concrete details yet but we will keep you posted as information comes in.

[video] Nipsey Chops It Up w/Snoop

The “Rookie of the Year” Nipsey Hussle sits down and chops it up with the Big Homie Snoop Dogg who bestows his blessings on the movement. Snoop says he is impressed with the machine that Nipsey built on his lonesome, which is the trademark of a true hustler, now he offers a blank check to Nip, which he earned as a testament to his Hussle. NY rappers need to take note, the gatekeepers don’t owe you nothing if you turning it up to a fever pitch whereas you can’t be ignored.  Hussle a lil’ bit harder!

411: Soak up the swagger — Hussle’s in the house! Coming into contact with gunplay as a teen, Hussle earned his name by his stringent work ethic as a, er, street pharmacist. One of the homies dubbed him “Nipsey Hussle,” a play on the name of the always-rhyming comedian of yesteryear Nipsey Russell. Nip is so young, however, that he’d never seen Russell’s breakout role as the Tinman in “The Wiz” (1978). He didn’t get the joke, but he liked the name anyway. For over a year, Nip has been back and forth between Los Angeles and New York, recording his debut LP for Cinematic/Epic, South Central State of Mind.

Game and Snoop Dogg are the only guests on the record besides Hussle’s crew, the Slauson Boys.During the past several weeks, the lanky MC — who will remind you of Snoop Dogg (some fans thought Nip was Snoop’s brother or cousin, but there is no relation) — hasn’t been in one spot for long. He was opening for Game’s LAX tour.”I tell everybody that was the best sh– we could’ve did,” Nip said of going out on the road with Hurricane Game.

“Just for the fact of getting in front of that many people and Game being an artist from the West Coast with — not necessarily style, but similar content to what I’m doing. When I got out there, they was loving me like they was loving [Game’s] sh–. If you a Game fan, you’re a fan of West Coast music. You’re a fan of L.A. music, L.A. culture, L.A. lifestyle. When I went out onstage, it was preaching to the choir. It was A1. The best experience I could’ve had.”Nip promises a summer release for South Central State of Mind. For almost half a year, though, Nip’s mixtape Bullets Ain’t Got No Names Vol. II has been tearing up the streets, and true to his name, Hus has been on the grind, getting his tape from L.A. all the way out to NYC. [video] HUSSLE IN THE HOUSE RMX- Nipsey Hussle feat Jay Rock & Maino

While Hip Hop’s bloggerati descended to the Lone Star State to cover the closest thing that we have to Woodstock these days, the biggest story in Hip Hop made a pit stop in New York.  Nipsey Hussle rolled into town on the GAME’s LAX tour.  Now, just in case the irony was lost on you, here you have a Rolling 60 Crip on tour with two devout Bloods, The Game & Jay-Rock.  Not only has the South Central wordsmith been defying logic and shattering stereotypes but he happens to be spitting unprecedented FIRE.  This is the latest offering, the remix to the critically acclaimed “HUSSLE IN THE HOUSE.” Nipsey teams up with Jay-Rock and Brooklyn’s own Maino.  If you listen to the outdated pundits he’s not suppose to be collabin’ with either one of these dudes, but as Nip continues to prove there is a new movement emerging out the West.  Tell us what you think about this track.

[audio] LETS TALK MONEY-NIPSEY vs PIMP C & LIL WAYNE

Yesterday a song called “LETS TALK MONEY” featuring the late great PIMP C and the martian LIL WAYNE with a sampled T-PAIN on the hook dropped and caused quite a stir in cyberspace because of a loose reference WAYNE made to 50 CENT.  No big deal, unless of course these frivilous “beefs” are your thing.  But the BIGGER point that is being overlooked is that this beat was previously destroyed by none other than the homie NIPSEY HUSSLE.  Now upon further review you can listen to his version, then take a listen to the PIMP C version and tell us…who’s really CASHING OUT on LET’S TALK MONEY?

BIG TRIBUTE COVER

March 9th is the day when we lost the late great “Francis M.H.” 12 years ago…and lucky me, my born day follows right after on March 10th. So today is always the bitter before the sweet for me….Someone asked me recently if there was anyone out there that I wish I could interview that I never had a chance to…and there’s no question: I wish I had a chance to talk to Big again, but  “inside the rapper’s studio” style…never was there a more charismatic multi-layered fellow.

Drama and Cookin’ Soul put together this new project in honor of Biggie Day featuring folks like Styles P, Jean Grae, Emilio Rojas, Nipsey Hussle and more remaking Big classics…Thank you to both Drama and CS for reaching out….
