BIG TRIBUTE COVER

March 9th is the day when we lost the late great “Francis M.H.” 12 years ago…and lucky me, my born day follows right after on March 10th. So today is always the bitter before the sweet for me….Someone asked me recently if there was anyone out there that I wish I could interview that I never had a chance to…and there’s no question: I wish I had a chance to talk to Big again, but  “inside the rapper’s studio” style…never was there a more charismatic multi-layered fellow.

Drama and Cookin’ Soul put together this new project in honor of Biggie Day featuring folks like Styles P, Jean Grae, Emilio Rojas, Nipsey Hussle and more remaking Big classics…Thank you to both Drama and CS for reaching out….

[video] B.I.G. Video Tribute…Down Memory Lane

I’ve been seeing some extensive marketing being done for the B.I.G. brand, that culminates with the release of the NOTORIOUS film, in theaters now!!  I’ve seen video of the Bed Stuy Bad Boy this past week that I never seen before, so its been a treat. Let me share these two gems with yall, this one is a classic LIVE performance (Soul Train 97′) when he was in true Frank White mode with this on. He even had Faith on vocals and had her singing adlibs on “Get Money” which is loosely based on her. The other one is him on “Martin” and even though its not his best performance it is still classic because of the time period it represents, seems like ages ago!

Notorious B.I.G. Documentary Due In January

via HipHopDX

On the heels of the motion picture release of Notorious, comes an inside look at the “real” Christopher Wallace in the documentary Biggie Small: Rap Phenomenon. The uncut documentary will come straight to DVD and include home video from Biggie’s close friend D-Roc as well as unseen interviews.

Stephen Bolles, Media Director of Gold Dust Media said this documentary offers a new perspective on the late Hip Hop Icon. “There are a lot of documentaries dealing with the drama of [Biggie’s] life or his beef with the west coast, but this documentary offers an inside look at the real Biggie, on and off stage.

The documentary features interviews with Biggie as well as appearances by D-Roc, Diddy, Lil Kim, Lil Cease, Jay-Z, L.O.X., Damon Dash, DJ Enuff and Datwon Thomas.

Mr. Bolles said the film offers a complimentary look to Biggie compared to the upcoming motion picture Notorious. “[That film] is the Hollywood take on Biggie‘s life, whereas [Biggie Small: Rap Phenomenon] is the raw footage; it’s like the two sides of a coin.

The DVD will also offer insight into Biggie’s dreams and aspirations as interviews delve into more personal subject matter,Mr. Bolles said.

Biggie Small: Rap Phenomenon is produced by Biggie’s close friend Damion Butler, known to some as D-Roc and directed by April Maiya. The film hits stores January 27, 2009 on Gold Dust Media.

Deathrow Catalog Deal Finalized for 24 million

Yeah this story was floating around a couple of weeks ago, I guess the check got cut.

My question is why Dre did not take his supposed millions and buy back his catalog? All of those whispers of the couple who purchased the Death Row catalog, being a front for Dre and Snoop sounds bogus to the kid. That would be a straight power move for Dre who can’t seem to make hits anymore.

Could you imagine Detox with some new Pac vocals? Hip Hop lost.

Ohh how sweet it is to find out that some of your most sanitized commercial artists are really not as squeaky clean and dumb as you would like them to be. With political season in high gear, it is only right that a R&B mega-star would add some of her most controversial theories to an image that has always been just shut up and sing.

There’s another side to Alicia Keys: conspiracy theorist. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter tells Blender magazine:

“‘Gangsta rap’ was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. ‘Gangsta rap’ didn’t exist.”

Keys, 27, said she’s read several Black Panther autobiographies and wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck “to symbolize strength, power and killing ’em dead,” according to an interview in the magazine’s May issue, on newsstands Tuesday.

Another of her theories: That the bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled “by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing.”
