Internationally acclaimed artist Usher recently launched a powerful video project to accompany the release of his new single, “Chains.”
The empowering track, which features the talents of Nas and singer-songwriter Bibi Bourelly, highlights the prevalent issue of racial injustice and police brutality in America.
In collaboration with the release of “Chains,” Usher designed an interactive music video experience titled “Don’t Look Away.”
Instead of starring in the video themselves, Usher and Nas chose for the visual experience to focus on the faces and stories of different victims of extreme violence and racial injustice.
Using groundbreaking interactive technology, the video tracks the viewer’s eyes while they watch and immediately stops playing if they look away from the screen.
As the viewer focuses on the changing black-and-white footage, the lyrics “We still in chains, we still in chains, you put the blame on us” repeat in the background, creating a hauntingly powerful experience.
“I chose to introduce the song through the ‘Don’t Look Away’ experience because it is important not only to feel the issue but to face it,” Usher explained.
Usher continued, “The pain and suffering that these victims and their families have endured is something we must never forget. When we look away from this problem it gets worse. To fix it, we have to face it.”
The “Don’t Look Away” experience calls attention to the stories and faces of Trayvon Martin, Rekia Boyd, Caesar Cruz, Ramarley Graham, Kendrick Johnson, Marlon Brown, Andrew Joseph, and Sean Bell, who represent only a handful of victims of social injustice.
“The reality is that racial bigotry diminishes the lives of too many people in our country,” the R&B legend explained. “We have to come together as a country to solve these problems and this is one way I can contribute.”
Usher and Nas performed the empowering single at the recent Tidal x HTC concert in Brooklyn, where they shared the stage with fellow artists Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, and Jay Z.

He has already received co-signs and shout outs from industry figures like Lil Bibby, Meek Mill, Twista, Diplo, and DJ Akademiks. He has exactly three songs on his SoundCloud, the oldest of which was uploaded two months ago. He had zero online presence prior to this video going viral. If upcoming artists are given this level of exposure and it is not earned through the merit of their hard work and/or talent, then what is it? Their skin color, a gimmick, sex appeal, shock value…? I think the answer is clear in this situation.
Public Enemy put out a great video with a positive message less than a month ago that has garnered over a quarter million views and a quick Google search will show that it’s nowhere to be found on any of these sites. Hell, Chicago drill rappers Dae Dot and Reesemoneybagz released a song that is arguably far superior to Slim’s months ago and they rap over the same beat. And yet, their version flew under the radar; I wonder why? It’s moments like this in hip-hop that makes one question if the acquisition of a dollar holds more value than the love and appreciation of the art. Is that extra traffic to your website or likes on your social media post more important than respecting the craft?

An off-duty NYPD sergeant was beaten within an inch of his life outside a Queens diner early Sunday by a thug who kept brutally bashing his head as he lay sprawled in the street.
A sickening cell-phone video shows Sgt. Mohammed Deen get knocked to the ground, then repeatedly kicked and punched by a hulking brute identified by cops as Hayden Holder, 29, of Jamaica.
At one point, the video shows the attacker leaving Deen crumpled on the pavement as he tries to smash in the windows of the NYPD veteran’s nearby white BMW 535i — with Deen’s horrified wife locked inside, a police source said.

This kangaroo was literally going in for the kill. There is a Part 2 to this amazing video whereas the uploader Anthony Gill states “After these two videos I had to jump in to save him as he was completely submerged and held down by the roo….” The comments he is getting on Youtube are just as vicious as this fight was, where commenters are correctly noting that this Kangaroo was justified in defending itself against this dog that was never called off by its owner.

Lil Wayne obviously has no PR firm that is trying to stop the bleeding from his biggest blunder of his storied rap career. After going on the radio to apologize to Miami and Lebron James (sans Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh)for his recent rant at his NBA party in Houston. That all aside, he still has not addressed this issue and the radio hosts who interviewed omitted any questions about his ‘beat the pussy up like Emitt Till’ lyric on Future’s remix of his track called “Karate Chop”. This remains something that needs to be publicly addressed and his needs to sincerely apologize to the family of Emitt Till. The estate of Emmitt Till has penned an open letter to him. Yesterday marked a week since the “unofficial” release of “Karate Chop~remix” inclusive of your lyrics. The words we speak are powerful enough for preservation of life but also have the capacity to destroy it. When you spit lyrics like “Beat that p—-y up like Emmett Till”, not only are you destroying the preservation and legacy of Emmett Till’s memory and name, but the impact of his murder in black history along with degradation of women.
They say the dog survived which is unbelievable in itself.
On Monday, NYPD officers in the East Village shot a dog protecting its owner.Although immediate reports claimed the dog (a pit bull named Star) had died from the gunshot wounds, it was later revealed she was in fact alive but in serious condition.
Since then, a video has surfaced capturing the horrific event. You can hear bystanders screaming to officers, “No! Why did you do that?”
According to police accounts, the dog had lunged at officers attempting to approach her owner who was visibly passed out and appeared to be suffering from a seizure.
Just the fact we see stuff like this has me in amazement.

Graphic footage released today by Al Arabiya claims to show Muammar Gaddafi, covered in blood, being shaken as a crowd surrounds him.
Reuters writes: “It appeared Gaddafi was being loaded into the back of a pick-up truck where his body was surrounded by several people. Blood had been wiped onto the trousers of some of those lifting him.”

We filmed this entire video using only one iphone 4, literally minutes after taking it out of the box. All we had were tri-pods that we would tape the phone to or anything we could use to keep the phone steady. The song was recorded using Logic 9, on a MacBook Pro i7. As a disclaimer, this was my first attempt at editing/shooting a video, so if it looks like I have no clue what I am doing, you are right.
