NEW YORK — Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention was seen by more than 38 million people.
Nielsen Media Research said more people watched Obama speak than watched the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing, the final “American Idol” or the Academy Awards this year. Obama talked before a live audience of 80,000 people in Denver.
His TV audience nearly doubled the amount of people who watched John Kerry accept the Democratic nomination to run against President Bush four years ago. Kerry’s speech was seen by just over 20 million people.
Obama’s audience might be higher, since Nielsen didn’t have an estimate for how many people watched Obama on PBS or C-SPAN Thursday night.

LONDON — The story of John Lennon is headed for the big screen with “Nowhere Boy,” a biopic that will be directed by visual artist Sam Taylor-Wood.
Produced by U.K. shingle Ecosse Films, the script from “Control” screenwriter Matt Greenhalgh will focus on the Beatle’s childhood and subsequent journey to icon status. Filming is set to take place on location in Lennon’s hometown of Liverpool.
Greenhalgh’s script details the story of Lennon as a lonely teenager growing up as his aunt and the mother who gave him up fight for his love. His only escape is music, art and his fateful friendship with Paul McCartney.
Casting for the major roles “is under way,” the backers said of the project that is being co-developed with the U.K. Film Council.
Sales and finance house HanWay Films is handling worldwide sales and will be trying to get sellers to tune in at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.
“The women in John’s early life truly shaped who he became,” Taylor-Wood said, “and the strengths and weaknesses of their relationships are central to this film.”
Ecosse and HanWay also worked together on “Becoming Jane” and “Brideshead Revisited.”
Will.I.Am along with John Legend perform his viral hit “Yes We Can” at the Democratic National Convention.

Aaron Sorkin is about to get a whole lot of friends on Facebook.
Sorkin, one of the town’s biggest writers and show creators, is in negotiations to write an untitled film project about the founders of the popular social networking site that Scott Rudin will produce for Columbia.
Sorkin broke the news on Facebook when he opened up his own account.
Aaron Sorkin has been tapped to write a film on Social networking site Facebook.
“I understand there are a few other people using Facebook pages under my name — which I find more flattering than creepy — but this is me. I don’t know how I can prove that but feel free to test me,” he wrote before going on to talk about the movie project.
“I figured a good first step in my preparation would be finding out what Facebook is, so I’ve started this page. (Actually it was started by my researcher, Ian Reichbach, because my grandmother has more Internet savvy than I do and she’s been dead for 33 years.)”
Sorkin also asked the Facebook public for any stories relating to the site.
Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg while studying at Harvard along with pals Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. At first, membership was restricted to Harvard students, then expanded to all Ivy League schools before going on to open up for all universities and high schools in Canada and the U.S. The site now has more than 100 million users worldwide.
Despite offers in the billions of dollars, Zuckerberg has steadfastly remained independent.
Endeavor-repped Sorkin last wrote “Charlie Wilson’s War,” while Rudin has “Revolutionary Road,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, and the film adaptation of the Broadway play “Doubt” coming out this fall.
“I feel about this introduction the way I felt about ‘Sophie’s Choice’: It could have been funnier,” Sorkin finished.

DAYTON, Ohio (Reuters) – Republican John McCain picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his surprise choice for running mate on Friday, adding a political unknown to the presidential ticket who could help him appeal to women voters.
Palin, 44, will appear with McCain later on Friday in a rally in Dayton, Ohio, as the Arizona senator grabs the political focus away from Democratic rival Barack Obama one day after Obama accepted his party’s presidential nomination.
“Governor Palin is a tough executive who has demonstrated during her time in office that she is ready to be president,” McCain said in a statement announcing the choice.
“She has brought Republicans and Democrats together within her administration and has a record of delivering on the change and reform that we need in Washington,” the statement said.

LONDON, England (CNN) — The British Museum plans to display a statue of supermodel Kate Moss that it bills as the largest gold statue built since ancient Egypt.
Called “Siren,” the statue will be part of a group of major sculptures by leading British artists to go on display at the museum in October, the museum announced.
The museum says the artist, Marc Quinn, claims it’s the largest gold statue since ancient Egypt.
His previous work included the marble sculpture Alison Lapper Pregnant, which appeared on a plinth in London’s Trafalgar Square.
The Kate Moss statue, weighing 50kg, will be displayed in a gallery of the museum that houses ancient Greek sculpture. The museum calls it a “fitting setting” for the statue of Moss, “interacting with the great Greek beauties that surround it.”
Moss, whose slight frame was at the forefront of the waif look in the mid-1990s, is now nearly as well known for her celebrity lifestyle as her modeling career.
The one-time girlfriend of British rocker Pete Doherty is a tabloid newspaper and celebrity magazine favorite, and now dates Kills guitarist Jamie Hince.

Junior Gotti walks from court in a previous case brought by Federal prosecutors which was eventually was dismissed.

Gotti, 44, was arrested on August 5 in New York after he and five other men were indicted by a federal grand jury in Tampa. Federal prosecutors said they were members of New York’s Gambino crime family who were trying to expand to Tampa.
Gotti did not speak during the five-minute court hearing. His attorney, Charles Carnesi, entered the plea for him.
The trial is scheduled to take place in Tampa but no date has been set. Gotti remains in federal custody and could get life in prison if he is convicted.
The indictment says he conspired to traffic cocaine and murder three men between 1988 and 1991, killings it says were aimed at creating and maintaining “fear and dread.”

The new chart will be published Thursday (August 28) on Billboard.com.
A No. 1 opening on the Hot Digital Songs chart with debut-week sales of 205,000 downloads is the impetus for the record-setting Hot 100 move, which surpasses the leap from No. 64 to No. 1 that Maroon 5’s “Makes Me Wonder” took in May 2007.
“Like” is the rapper’s first No. 1 as a lead artist (he was featured on Justin Timberlake’s 2006 chart-topper “My Love”), and his opening-week digital sum is the best by a rap track since Nielsen SoundScan began compiling download data in 2003.
T.I.’s new Grand Hustle/Atlantic album, “Paper Trail,” will be released September 30.
The performer pled guilty to federal weapons charges in conjunction with an October 2007 arrest in Atlanta. He will serve a year in jail after completing 1,000 hours of community service.

Suge Knight has been busted again, this time for allegedly terrorizing and attacking his girlfriend.
The former rap impresario was busted by Las Vegas cops for assault with a deadly weapon, possession of controlled substances and domestic violence.
Law enforcement tells us Suge allegedly attacked his girlfriend of three years early this morning. She claims he punched her in the back of the head while they were driving. She claims she tried getting out of the car, grabbed the steering wheel to cause an accident so someone would notice her peril.
The car struck the curb and stopped. She fled from the car and allegedly Suge chased her, caught her and that’s when the cops came.
Cops say they saw Suge kick the woman in the head and was wielding a knife in his hand.
Did this guy really need to be arrested? He probably gave this project more press and hype than any major media outlet in the last 13 years.
He actually pushed the project forward and got people excited again about this album that is neck and neck with Dre’s Detox with album’s that people have been anticipating but dissapointed every year when it does not see the light of day. Unbelievable!!!!

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Federal authorities say they have arrested a blogger suspected of streaming songs from Guns N’ Roses unreleased album, “Chinese Democracy,” on his Web site.FBI agents arrested 27-year-old Kevin Cogill on Wednesday morning on suspicion of violating federal copyright laws. Federal authorities say Cogill posted nine unreleased Guns N’ Roses songs on his Web site in June.
The songs were later removed.
According to an arrest affidavit, Cogill admitted to agents that he posted the songs on his Web site.
“Chinese Democracy” is a much anticipated—and repeatedly delayed—new album by Guns N’ Roses that is more than 10 years in the making.

Although Tiger Woods isn’t sure when he will return to competition, his huge golf course project in the Persian Gulf is rapidly rising out of the desert sand.
The initial phase of The Tiger Woods Dubai – a 13 million-square-foot golf course designed by the world’s top player – is on track to be completed sometime in the first quarter of 2009.
The mega-project, which also features a luxury boutique hotel, a Guy Savoy restaurant and upscale shopping, is part of a massive amusement park, called Dubailand, that is being built on the edge of a desert.
Yesterday, Woods unveiled the master plan for the course and confirmed it was on schedule amid growing concern that Dubai is headed for a real-estate glut.
The Woods’ project was announced more than a year-and-a-half ago.
It was his first visit to the oil-rich region since he announced in June that he would miss the rest of the 2008 golf season because of surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left knee.

“America’s Next Top Model” gets underway featuring the show’s first transgender model/contestant Isis, who was born a man but will compete as a woman. The show debuts Wednesday September 3 on The CW, but the network has posted interviews with the contestants on YouTube.

Fabolous is back. After a brief hiatus, Loso is ready to go to work. Quietly, he has been gearing up for the next album, one he just explained, will be out by year’s end.
“We’re cookin’ now,” Fab told MTV while standing alongside Swizz Beatz and Ryan Leslie. “You might be looking at two of the producers on that ‘Loso’s Way’ coming this Thanksgiving. We’re letting the world know we’re coming now.”
For now, fans can catch him heating up the collaborative world ads he has been featured as a guest on various tracks alongside Red Cafe, Mariah Carey and more.

According to The Los Angeles Times, the 20 year-old son of Hip Hop superstar Dr. Dre was found dead Saturday morning, when his mother attempted to wake him.
The city’s coroner told the newspaper that reports stated that the young man born Andre Young, Jr. had been in Los Angeles partying, when he returned to his mother’s Woodland Hills, California residence at approximately 5:30 am.
He was found less than five hours later, unresponsive. Cause of death has yet to be determined. Continue reading

A release went out stating that “SMC Recordings signs the largest act in the history of the company,” as the signing sends a message to the many labels that have long been after the legendary emcee. NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Burning incense may create a sweet scent, but regularly inhaling the smoke could put people at risk of cancers of the respiratory tract, researchers reported Monday.
In a study of more than 61,000 ethnic Chinese living in Singapore who were followed for up to 12 years, the investigators found a link between heavy incense use and various respiratory cancers.

This vid is of an ardent supporter of Hillary who is vowing to never vote for an Obama presidency because she has solid proof that he was enrolled in a Muslim school and identified as a “Muslim” on paperwork. The reporter repeatedly grilled her and asked her what her sources were to which she replied a secret Congressional Report into Barack’s activities as a child in Indonesia. She cited a story we covered over [HERE] that supports her allegations about there being paperwork, even displaying photocopies of the “incriminating” evidence. In response the Obama supporters dismantle her limb for limb. Guess what, chances are they don’t care, they desperately want CHANGE. So, soon the argument will be even if he was once a Muslim should that exclude him from public service to the most diversely populated “countries” on the planet?

Charleton Heston’s now-famous speech before the National Rifle Association at a convention back in 2000 will forever be remembered as a stirring moment for all 2nd Amendment advocates. At the end of his remarks, Heston held up his antique rifle and told the crowd in his Moses-like voice, “over my cold, dead hands.”
While Heston, then serving as the NRA President, made those remarks in response to calls for more gun control laws at the time, those words live on. Heston’s declaration captured a truly American value: An over-arching desire to protect our freedoms to possess firearms
But gun confiscation is exactly what happened during the state of emergency following Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, along with forced relocation. U.S. Troops also arrived, something far easier to do now, thanks to last year’s elimination of the 1878 Posse Comitatus act, which had formally forbade regular U.S. Army troops from policing on American soil.
