In an embarrassing political manuever the Detroit City Council silenced the Hip Hop Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. He entered the Council chambers and attempted to propose a budget, only to be rebuffed by the Council President Ken Cockrel, who informed Kilpatrick that members voted to not hear from the Mayor. The session was quickly adjourned and a visibly embarrassed Kilpatrick responded, “this could have been done in my office.”
Kilpatrick and his former chief of staff Christine Beatty have been brought up on perjury, misconduct and obstruction of justice charges, stemming from lying under oath about carrying on an extramarital affair until details emerged in the form of text messaging. The Council previously voted 7-1 for the Mayor to resign, loudly voicing their displeasure with his leadership. This is just the latest dust-up in the deteriotating career of Kilpatrick, once dubbed the Hip Hop Mayor. CLICK HERE for more on this embarrassing story.
